Man that was dramatic. The second half and overtime of Game 6 kept me on the edge of my seat even knowing the outcome. Loved seeing Timmy down in the post like the old days taking us home. And on that last shot of his, Westbrook gets so close to stealing it or at least disrupting the shot not once but twice.
But, of course, it is Leonard's stripping the ball from Westbrook in the waning seconds that was probably the play of the playoffs for the Spurs. All the finals MVP stuff from Kawhi was great, but that play may have been the season. Legendary.
Yeah, this probably doesn't deserve its own thread, but its mid-August, we're all bored, and reviewing this game is just too much fun.

Badass game. That steal was the best play of the playoffs. Then the Tim Duncan shot right afterwards. The 3rd best play was Manu with the three right b4 overtime I think. All in one game. This game had everything you could expect and more.
Yeah man it is very boring. I just wanna make some troll threads, but I fight off the urge.

I actually watched it again last Friday night, and I fucking love how epic Kawhi and Duncan were to close that shit out. It's also pretty crazy cause I don't know if the Spurs would have had anything left in the tank for game seven, so fuck man, seeing Timmy put the team on his back was just so fucking epic.

Yeah, love the Manu 3 and Timmy eradicating Fisher on the screen. I couldn't have enjoyed it more if Fish just burst into flames.
Considering it was on the road, against a team that had beaten us what seemed like a hundred straight times in OKC, without Tony in the second half and with the prospect that by going to overtime we risked wearing out Timmy and Manu for a Game 7, it was really as much as an "all in" game 6 as you'll ever see. Great play after great play by both teams.

We would have blown them out again per par in game 7. This team wasn't going to be denied this year...especially against the Thunders' 2.5 man, no bench to speak of squad. We beat them by an average of 27 pts at home. 27, emasculating, feet on their necks & balls, points.

That third quarter was awesome. Green just straight took Durant's cookie four times on post-up attempts. Diaw was unstoppable offensively. Even Bonner did work. Best playoff performance since Game Three of the 2012 WCSF.

I keep watching the games. Games 3 and 4 of the Finals just need to be framed, put on an endless loop and displayed for everyone to enjoy. Masterful basketball.
I also have all the pre-game and post-game shows for every game in the Finals, and there's some really neat nuggets in there too. Analysis game to game, etc.

takeaways from this game:
- Manu redeemed himself in a huge way with that bailout 3
- Duncan with ridiculous patience and control in crunch time
- Westbrook with so many awful decisions down the stretch
- Kawhi with one of the best steals in franchise history
I don't think it's an exaggeration to say this is one of the all time great spurs wins. It was the best game the spurs put together against a bitter rival at full strength (Ibaka's mind games notwithstanding) and might have been just as meaningful as the finals victory itself.
OKC remains the single greatest obstacle to the spurs winning again. But the spurs completed the revenge circuit in 2014 and nobody will ever be able to take that away.

When we finally beat them it was surreal, it was as if we won the title. It takes a Herculian effort to beat them (and the refs). I had only feared them the entire playoff run and to finally knock them off (like we shouldve in 2012) was incredible, especially on the road and despite shit reffing.

For this reason, and the fact that this OKC team might be my least favorite team of all time, the game 6 win was my favorite win as a spurs fans not counting wins in the finals. We really did go all in, and Tim really put us on his back for some huge buckets down the stretch. The Kawhi strip in real time happens so fast it's kind of hard to understand how incredible of a play it is, but watching this game back got me so excited.

Best Plays of the Playoffs:
1) Kawhi Strip
2) Timmy late game fade away hook in the same game
3) Manu dunk vs. Miami
4) Boris shot vs. Dallas
HM: Belenelli shot against the Heat in game 3 (i think)
Most satisfying series win in a long long time. I was physically exhausted after that game.
The revenge against Miami was somewhat weakened by the fact that it was such a blowout series. In hindsight, Miami winning game two in SA was the best thing that happened because had the Spurs swept, it wouldve all been lumped into the AC failing and Miami never being able to recover. Them winning the second game really allowed the Spurs ass kicking them to be rightfully respected.

The Finals this year is by far my favorite playoff series in franchise history. It was the best basketball the Spurs have ever played, they broke up one of the greatest teams in league history by destroying them with the worst point differential in Finals history, they shot the highest percentage in Finals history, they got revenge on a team they owed big time, and won a title in dominating fashion without an all-star level player against a team stacked with stars. No other series comes close to me.

I don't think peeps really realize what an historic beatdown that was. I mean, if we don't miss like 4 free throws in a row in Game 2, it's a sweep of a back to back champ in the Finals.

I was just thinking of starting the following Alternate Timeline threads:
- Alternate Timeline: Manu misses the 3 pointer to put us up one.
- Alternate Timeline: Tim misses the turnaround jumper in OT to seal the game.
- Alternate Timeline: Kawhi can't get the steal on Westbrook after Manu was blocked.
- Alternate Timeline: Tony isn't injured in the 2nd half.
I see lots of potential trolling/meltdowns in at least a couple of those :lol

completely forgot to put manus shot there, definitely top 3 with the strip and Tim's bucket. Gotta say that manus dunk rates higher than greens shooting for me tho just because manus dunk was when I, and I think anyone else watching the game, knew the series was over. It was a huge play symbolically and was an awesome vintage dunk by the most passionate spur.

That's when I knew for sure they were winning the whole thing. Those are the kind of clutch road games I remember from championship seasons. The NBA probably did a disservice to the Heat because they didn't face any real competition till they got to the Finals.

The two signature plays of the playoffs come from this game - Kawhi's steal on Westbrook and the three pass setup for Diaw's three, which should be THE signature for this team, i.e. The one in clip reels for years to come. That sequence was nuts. I've never seen anything like it.

Duncan said in an interview that he saw Wesetbrook coming and tried to get the shot off before he could close.

Amazing game. Most of the big stuff has been noted. When I re-watched it, I was taken by the smart outlet passes, Ginobili running the offense, the spacing on offense and defense and how that led to crucial def. rebounds.
But the play by Kawhi, legendary, timely and so clean.
It felt like this game galvanized the Spurs and really proved that they could win a tough game 6 in a hostile arena in overtime. It was all downhill from there.

I said this during the game to myself and some others a few times, if we lost this one it might be 6 all over again, ANOTHER game 6 to haunt us. Game 7 is not guaranteed if you are tired on your HC! They had to close it out that NIGHT, period. That would be up there with 6 though if they lost, maybe even worse since their window might be shut and that would have crushed them IMO. They might have pulled off a game 7 but it's not guaranteed at all.

I have Diaws three #1 since if he doesn't hit that shot they are not going to the next round IMO, they would be down 1-3 in all reality! Dallas was surging in that game, his three shut them up and shut them down. That shot was HUGE as the replay says, I watched it a few times.

And those two "blocks" on Duncan were all arms and no ball.
The fouls were racking up quickly for the Spurs, and they were over the limit with like 7 or 8 minutes left in the game, the OKC refs had zero fouls up to that point despite a couple of really obvious ones.
Overall, OKC shot 18 FTs in the 4th, the Spurs had 6. In fact the Spurs didn't shoot their first FTs of the quarter until the OKC refs narrowed the lead from 12 points to 3, and after the refs shot 14 FTs in the 4th quarter.
It was a horribly called quarter and I was surprised there wasn't more complaining on it.

Idk about that. The refs do give LBJ the benefit of the doubt because he is a superstar, but they don't really bail him out as much as you would think being who he is. Most of the the time when LBJ gets the favorably whistle he nine times out of ten had gotten mauled on the play. No touch crap that Durant gets away with.

Manu was pressing too hard in OT.
But he made up for it in the end.
That sequence with Ibaka blocking his shot, but then KL returning the favor on the other end
When he strips/blocks Westbrook on the drive...
The pass to Manu... who then Calls a play!! with time winding down..
Manu realizes he has Ibaka on him and pulls him to the wing, at the same time redirecting KL out of the corner and creating a two pass play lane for Duncan,
via Diaw, back to Manu who throws the ball to Duncan down low with 2 smaller defenders on him.
Duncan spins past one, anticipates the other, so when Westbrook comes in, Timmy avoids the strip and, shoots over the top and scores....

Westbrook giveths and he takeths. OKc wouldn't even be competitive if it wasn't for him carrying them for the entire regulation. Then OT hits and he goes full on ballhog mode, not passing to Durant at all.
Also, what type of play calling is that? Every single play was Westbrook ISO. Just horrible coaching.

No need to overanalyze it.
Durant played practically the entire game and was clearly gassed by the 4th. Westbrook felt he needed to take over.
Mind you, this doesn't absolve Westbrook of his shitty shot selection nor Brooks of his shitty coaching (rest your guys, you fucking moron), but there's no need to read more into why Durant was clearly off at the end.

But Kawhi's block on WB was just THE move of the game and probably the most important play of the season.
Russ drove to the basket to bring the win to OKC,
Kawhi just wouldn't let him. Had Russ got that easy shot we would've lost it all. Kawhi's a hero.

Yeah, that was a really close one. Remember, Tony was out for the game and would not be 100% for the next game.
OKC definitely was a tougher match up than the Heat. I always worry about them. That Sam Presti keeps drafting gems.

:lol Fisher flopped like hell on that play.
Fisher flopping is pretty much in accord with the sun rising daily. Aside from his fluky shots he used to somehow continually torture us with he would be a nobody.

Duncan said in an interview that he saw Wesetbrook coming and tried to get the shot off before he could close.
I'm with you though..I started freaking out when I saw westbrook coming out of nowhere and that lob manu Pass..that I saw so many times get picked off last year.. made it worse.
Yea I watched the clip, and noticed that Duncan must of had a feel for him, because when he turns you can see Duncan aware of his presence, the momentary recognition and, instant action in the moment.

Legendary.
Yeah, this probably doesn't deserve its own thread, but its mid-August, we're all bored, and reviewing this game is just too much fun.

...and thats why this chip is so much sweeter than everything else that came before it. we revenged OKC and the Heat all in one year, and won it all.
Funny how before the series started the media was like, Spurs have not won a game in OKC for 2 straight years (or something like that), and that 1 win, we close em out in OKC lol :flag:

7 Would've been at home. Role players play better at home. Spurs still win the series.
Amen. But for the sake of drama, we can pretend the spurs had no shot in game 7...ya know, keep things interesting hehe

7 was not certain, Tony wouldve been out and all it wouldve taken is a Westbrook free throw parade or a hot game from Durant and we couldve been in big trouble.

Parker would have played in Game Seven. He didn't finish Game Six because it was not an elimination game.

My fault there, I know he would have played, I meant to say he would have been ineffective and run the risk of getting a much more serious injury or being very limited in the Miami series should we have won game 7. So I do think game 6 was vital, and he didnt finish game 6 because he was playing like shit and Pop pulled him and used his injury as an excuse.

It really amazed me watching heat spurs finals in 2013 how evenly called the series was. Officiating didn't matter much this year because of how easily we won, but even in 2013 I don't ever remember Lebron getting ridiculous superstar calls like durant/Westbrook. It made the series a lot better since it was so physical and balanced. Maybe I'm only saying this because the team redeemed themselves this year, but the 2013 series was incredibly entertaining

I really enjoyed the 2013 Finals, tbh, even before the redemption. The series was a lot more evenly matched and went down to the wire until the last minute of Game 7. It was great seeing the Spurs compete and even scare this monster Heat team in 2013. While it ended ugly, I thought it was a fun series.

I agree. For whatever reason the refs seem to side more with OKC verses they do when it comes to whatever team LBJ is on. Case in point, that block that Splitter destroyed Wade with, that same block against WB probably gets called a foul. They probably wanted to call a foul on Leonard when he stripped/blocked WB, but it was so clean they would had looked really suspicious had they called that a foul.

i probably would have destroyed my tv if they called a foul on leonard for that strip
There was a part of me that wanted to see Manu or even Diaw win the Finals MVP, but remembering the Kawhi strip of Westbrook in the WCF made me recognize that that particular play was the entire season. The kid deserved it for just that one play.

Diaw, Duncan, Manu and Kwahi came up big in Gm 6. Danny Green also hit 2 big 3 pointers.

That was the game of the year vs OKC, and game 1 and 2 vs Miami were also great games because of the stakes and the freak AC and LeBron cramping thing

That is how I felt, I was so fucking excited we won. My hatred of OKC and the fact that we actually beat them with all the BS ref help and the fact that nobody thought we would win after Ibaka came back made it amazing

I think they got it right. The Houston-Portland game was back and forth the whole game. The climatic last minute of game was nail biting and full of drama. Parsons had that rebound reverse layin with .9 secs left to make it seem like the series was now tied at 3-3 and going back to Houston for clincher. The Portland fans went from jubilation to depression in 1 second back to hysteria 9/10 of a second later with that miracle 3 pointer by Lilliard. I was happy Portland won for sure because Houston would have probably taken Spurs on another long tough series battle.

Off the top of my head I can't think of a bigger single shot in Duncan's career than that one over Jackson with Westbrook going for the swipe to put the game and series away in the Western Conference Finals on the road. There are probably others (something in 2005 vs Detroit?) but I'll remember that shot and the way it bounced around the rim before dropping through and out bench exploding FOREVER.

Just watched this game the other night....
Ginobili's dagger three at the end of regulation still gets me hype. As well as Sugar K's block on Westbrook. Two of the best/clutch Spurs plays I've ever seen. What a helluva game...
