My first thought when I heard he died was that substance abuse had caught up with him, either an OD or just a heart attack hitting a weakened ticker. Damn shame, but as others have said, less than shocking. As the years go by I have come to think that Good Will Hunting has become a little over rated but every second Williams was on the screen was must watch stuff.

I think they want to kill the pain they feel - emotional or otherwise - but instead of just killing the pain - they identify with it (I am depressed, I am a failure, I am shit) -

and so they kill themselves - when they didn't really have to.

Speaking as someone who was briefly out on a ledge I can tell you that it was more like, "If I do this I don't have to wake up ever again." For a guy whose life, professional and personal, was so full of very sharp ups and downs it's easy to imagine that at his age he just didn't think there were any ups left to come.

definitely shitty news but not shocking. Not sure if that's my jaded mind or the fact Robin Williams displayed signs all along. either way, it sucks.

I always thought he was hilarious growing up, then I guess Patch Adams, Mrs Doubtfire changed my opinion a bit. Even in interviews, sometimes he was hilarious and other times obnoxious. He was definitely capable of comedic brilliance but could still be very hit or miss.

I think he was at his best with darker or dramatic roles. Lots to choose from, but sad he won't have more to offer. Rest in Peace.

When I was 10 years old I found Mrs. Doubtfire to be mildly amusing. As an adult, there's almost nothing comedic he's done that I've even cracked a smile at. He had a few terrific dramatic performances, but all this comedic genius talk is insane.

The only time I can recall laughing at him was during his guest appearance on Louie, where he's at a funeral of all things.

Quiet. Doesn't take much to pull off--you don't leave a mess and you don't run the risk of throwing up ills and other poisons. It does, however, take a while and if you're not doing it right you can end up a vegetable and still suffering but as a brain-dead person.

That was what I was getting at. I'm not judging why he off himself or nothing. He had his reasons.

I was just saying that hanging is brutal and not exactly a smooth way to go about it. As you said, it takes some doing and you're basically aware of the process of dying which I would assume is terrifying in itself.

I'd want it done as soon as it can go without feeling a thing.

Yep 500 sleeping pills would be quicker acting. But then someone might stomache pump you. I guess you would have to hide yourself.

Suicide is a selfish act but at least he had the decency to not blow his brains out and give whoever discovered him an even more gruesome scene. If you've got the gonads to kill yourself, than I would assume "terrifying" is not on the list of worries.

Williams and Bacall were both in movies with Pierce Brosnan and Jeff Bridges. Ms. Doubtfire and The Fisher King for Williams, both were in The Mirror Has Two Faces with Lauren Bacall. After a little bit of internet research thus far there's three possibles for the third doomed celebrity: Simon Pegg (The World's End with Brosnan and How to Lose Friends and Alienate People with Bridges), Ewan McGregor (The Ghost and The Men Who Stare at Goats) and Meryl Streep (Mamma Mia! and the upcoming The Giver). If there's anyone else you can think of speak up.

I think people are getting a little carried away now deeming Robin Williams the best "comedian" ever. Get real people. George Carlin, Will Ferrell, Jim Carrey, and Seth Rogen blow him out of the water.

And I did like some of his movies, Mrs. Doubtfire and Good Morning Vietnam, but come on. He had no great movies either. Good Will Hunting was average at best. Saw Awakenings last night and hated it. Boring as fuck.

Not hating. Just saying.

Stupid ass nigga over here. I am a fan of Will Ferrell but its not even close. And don't get me started on Seth Rogen aka the most talentless **** in Hollywood. Carlin I agree with and Carrey is a legend too though he has fallen off badly.

"Limbaugh began by discussing the left’s “worldview” as one of “pessimism and darkness” before turning more specifically to the news about Williams’ suicide.

“He had it all, but he had nothing,” Limbaugh opined. “He made everyone else laugh, but was miserable inside.”
“It fits a certain picture, or a certain image that the left has,” he continued. “Low expectations and general unhappiness and so forth.”

Robin Williams Had 'Early Stages of Parkinson's Disease,' Wife Sayshttps://media.zenfs.com/251/2011/05/31/thr-logo-082710_052641.png (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/) By Erik Hayden 14 minutes ago

Susan Schneider, the wife of Robin Williams, has disclosed that her late husband had early stages of Parkinson's disease at the time of his death earlier this week.

Williams, 63, died of a suspected suicide at his Tiburon, Calif. home on Aug. 11, local authorities said.
Schneider's full statement on Thursday:
“Robin spent so much of his life helping others. Whether he was entertaining millions on stage, film or television, our troops on the frontlines, or comforting a sick child &mdash Robin wanted us to laugh and to feel less afraid.

Since his passing, all of us who loved Robin have found some solace in the tremendous outpouring of affection and admiration for him from the millions of people whose lives he touched. His greatest legacy, besides his three children, is the joy and happiness he offered to others, particularly to those fighting personal battles.>> Robin's sobriety was intact and he was brave as he struggled with his own battles of depression, anxiety as well as early stages of Parkinson's Disease, which he was not yet ready to share publicly.>> It is our hope in the wake of Robin’s tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid.”

I also find it odd that the wife wakes up the following day -after sleeping apart - and leaves the house just assuming that her husband was in another room -

didn't even check on him or worry if he was there or not...

odd.
