View Full Version : Knicks: If Melo never wins a ring, where do you rank him?

Do you still consider him an all time great? I still consider guys like Barkley, Malone greats despite not winning a chip. However, I do think winning with the spotlight on you is key to get into the top 20 list.

Someone on here compared him to Bernard King. Who still talks about him? Anthony will be long forgotten. I would put him below Tracy McGrady and maybe even Vince Carter

He has never had a season as good as peak Barkley, wasn't anywhere near the same player, tbh..

Same with Malone, and I doubt he'll have the longevity that Pedoman had..

Carmelo has never done anything special in the league, tbh..the only reason he's viewed in a greater light than somebody like Paul Pierce was(prior to winning a title) is because: he was a dominant college player that won a national title, entered the league with Lebron, and now plays in New York..

The only semi-dominant season we've seen from Anthony was in 2012-2013, and he's only had 1 great playoff run, too..he's nowhere near a nigga like Durant, yet is often discussed in the same breath..

Melo would be remembered as an elite scorer and all, in the same tier as the likes of T-Mac and Carter.

It's pretty crazy the difference 1 ring can make for his legacy. If he doesn't get it, he'll be remembered as one of the highlights of the 03 draft class but will be overshadowed by Lebron wade and maybe even bosh. They'll remember him as a great scorer, but not much else. If he wins a ring in New York and gets the FMVP, he will be remembered as a legendary scorer who brought a ring to his home town, a city desperate for their Knicks to be relevant.

However, there's pretty much no situation in which he's a top 50 player of all time unless he has a legendary 5 year stretch coming up with at least 1-2 rings or a ring and an MVP. Dudes resume is pretty lacking.

He had his chance to win a ring but turned down the opportunity to team up with God.

I still remember all the idiots here saying Cleveland should have drafted him #1 over LeBron back then, that Melo knew how to win, was the more mature and complete player, etc.

IMO James cares too much bout being liked & Anthony cares too much bout being cool.

And yet LeBron never gave Cleveland a title so what difference would it have made?

He did take them to the Finals and he did win them 66 games, all with worse supporting casts than Melo ever had in Denver.

Ha. I remember that too. We all get it wrong sometimes but that take was pretty absurd. Reminds me of a few years later when idiots on here said Durant wouldn't be able to play at the NBA level due to his unimpressive performance on bench press.

Even if he won a ring I wouldn't consider him an all-time great. He's been vastly overrated for his entire career.

Is say melo should be ranked amongst the James worthy and Alex English group. Worthy, as much as I liked his game, was vastly overrated as he had no business being one of the 50 greatest of all time.

Bernard king was simply too dominant a scorer even when compared to melo, but on the other hand, his career peak was much shorter.
