I've said it a million times, the system acutally limits kawhi..

Watch this game against the Bulls..

95% of his buckets are plays he made for himself...

People thinking Kawhi can't make a play for himself..:lmao

There's a couple of warrior games too where kawhi runs the PnR very good vs iggy. We pretty much schooled them hard.

Kawhi is very special. :toast

No one is saying he can't make plays for himself (he does so at a pretty elite level quite frankly)... People often question his assertiveness... which might be understood because he has to share the floor with the Spurs' all-star core...

That said, the 2014 Finals will be the series that unleashes him as a 1A/1B/2A offensive option going forward... Pop has seen this as the natural progression of where the reigns of the offense must go... The one caveat being that the team's primary offense should still be a motion offense during the bulk of the game whereas Kawhi's abilities would be called upon during go-to plays in the crunch (ala 4th down of years past)...

Great post, OP. Leonard has been terrific since he joined and has only gotten better.

I don't really mind when some people say he's a system player, since it's true that he doesn't create a lot of offense for himself. It's the people who suggest that their favorite scrub (Barnes, Parsons, DeRozan, etc.) can do just as well or better on the Spurs that annoy me, or when people say that he's lucky to be on the Spurs, even though the Spurs targeted him and traded Pop's favorite player for him.

I was eagerly awaiting apalisoc_9's morning thread, I was not disappointed :toast

Anxiously awaiting for the evening thread on the NBA Forum...

If "the system " includes player development, then I wouldn't say "the system" limits Kawhi.

Define "the system".

Oh, maybe you mean "the system" means the offensive sets. Yes? Or is that what you mean?

Maybe "the system" includes the team defensive schemes, also. Yes? No?

Who gives a flying fuck, they won the title ya douche. All that playing within the system helped his game in that it made him a good 3 pt shooter, now they have to guard him, THEN he blows by them.

So Durant and other guys here said Leonard is only a system product but KD got more help from his team than Leonard...

Even in his first two games (foul trouble, etc) he was better than others containing Lebron

Kawhi cannot be limited to only being a product of a system. Too much raw talent.

Good article to read again. His mid and long range jump shooting stroke is so much better. Quite a striking difference.

Check out his games against the Thunder in the playoffs and his games 3 and 4 against the heat. He was making plays on his own with the heat pick and roll system set up to stop him.

It's crazy Durant said that.. when Kawhii was constantly creating his own shot or finishing at the rim against the Thunder..never got that. #Salty

i agree the system actually limits kawhi somewhat

if he wasnt talented, he's probably stuck to a bruce bowen type role player, also props to pop's 2014 offensive system, it took a while but finally an SF isnt stuck camping in the corner

It might limit his personal numbers some, but it's difficult to argue with the overall results.

Kawhi is playing as good as he is without being a part of San Antonio usual system.
You could argue that his defense may be powered by the system, but his offense is the same ad the next NBA super star. No such a system there now.
The spurs offense had changed a lot and is now more like most nba offenses.

Who are these "idiots" talking about Kawhi being a system player? This is just more knob polishing. OP and his socks are encouraged not to switch here after the gay porn sessions.

Kawhi is one hell of a lot better than he was in 2014. He may have had the potential then, but he has taken several leaps forward. I mentioned at the beginning of the Memphis series that I thought we may have just seen him take another one of those leaps forward. The rest of the series was enough to convince me that it's the next step in Kawhi's evolution.

I think the system helped Kawhi. No - I KNOW the system helped Kawhi. And the team will still benefit from him being part of the system. But when the game is on the line, Kawhi has turned into one of those rare players who can elevate his play and just take over. He's always had those moments, but I think he's finally decided he's "the man", like LeBron. Doesn't mean the Spurs won't lose games, but LeBron has lost his share, too. But he's on a different planet from all but about three guys now.

You're a revisionist. Kawhi would be further along today, or he plays better in the Clips series with more Alpha touches in the RS. Don't tell me I'm wrong either. :lol
