My MIL is a religious fanatic, everything is "praise the Lord", "I'll pray for it"...but she's nice and sweet. So she buys this movie.."God is not Dead". There are football games on and she wants me and Judy to watch this flick with her. Wel since the games will be reshown and I could DVR....fuck it.

I was prepared to be bored shitless for a couple hours if I could stay awake.

Well I'll be damn, not bad, not bad at all. Actually I highly recommend it to all you miserable atheists out there.

This college professor is trying to sell there is no God to his class, all but one of his students are buying into his shit, so that one student takes on the professor, his job is to prove there is a God.

Check it out.

You are right there is a God and he plays for the Lakers.

"Kobe is God"

he didn't need no Kentucky
or UCLA
coming right out of high school
the boy was ready to play

he had game
and all could see
now add that cool name
Kobe

he could shoot
dribble and pass
and he was quick
leaving defenders on their ass

some say he's God
here on earth
others say he's just a baskeball player
no virgin giving him birth

He's pretty much over the hill on the downside of his career, injuries showed how human he is, happens to all the greats, happened to Jordan, and will happen to Lebron.

What's it's actually filled with is a ton of logic that no atheist can dispute. For every...well it was actually like this..from an atheist professor, would get knocked down by.......oh really, well what about......by a Christian student.

:lmao watched this joke of a movie this weekend (yes my wife is a christian) ... It is pretty easy to debunk. Dude (professor) wasn't actually an atheist, dude was just mad with "god" because he didn't answered his and his moma's prayers and she died. The movie is actually good to have an understanding of how hardcore christians view the atheists and their reasons for being "non believers" all wrong IMO ....:lmao that nigga praying for a car to start? Anyways, it's pretty obvious fake ex-athiests Lee Strobel had some input.

:lol just read the basic synopsis on wikipedia, shit is corny as hell

Josh Wheaton (Shane Harper (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shane_Harper)), a Christian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian) college student, enrolls in a philosophy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy) class taught by Professor Jeffrey Radisson (Kevin Sorbo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Sorbo)), anatheist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atheism), who demands that his students sign a declaration that "God is dead" to get a passing grade. Josh is the only student in the class who refuses to sign and is then required by Radisson to debate the topic with him, with the class members deciding who wins.
Radisson gives Josh 20 minutes at the end of the first three lecture sessions to argue that God exists. In the first two debates, Radisson has counter arguments for all of Josh's points. Josh's girlfriend Kara (Cassidy Gifford) breaks up with him, fearing that standing up to Radisson will jeopardize their academic future. Ultimately, it comes down to the third and final debate between Radisson and Josh, who again both make compelling points. Josh then halts his line of debate to pose a question to Radisson: "Why do you hate God?" After Josh repeats the question twice more, Radisson explodes in rage, confirming he hates God for his mother's death that left him alone despite his prayers. Josh then casually asks Radisson how he can hate someone that doesn't exist. In the end, Martin (Paul Kwo), a foreign exchange student whose father had encouraged him not to convert to Christianity, stands up and says "God's not dead." Almost the entire class follows Martin's lead, causing Radisson to leave the room in defeat.
Against the backdrop of the debates, a series of peripherally related subplots develop. Radisson dates Mina (Cory Oliver), a Christian whom he often belittles in front of his fellow atheist colleagues. Her brother Mark (Dean Cain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Cain)), a successful businessman and atheist, refuses to visit their mother, who suffers from dementia. Mark's girlfriend, Amy (Trisha LaFache), is a left-wing blogger who writes articles critical of Duck Dynasty (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duck_Dynasty). When she is diagnosed with cancer, Mark dumps her. A Muslim (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim) student named Ayisha (Hadeel Sittu) secretly converts to Christianity and is disowned by her family when they find out.
After the final debate, Josh invites Martin to attend the Newsboys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newsboys) concert that is in town. Radisson reads a letter from his late mother, and is moved to reconcile with Mina. Amy confronts the Newsboys in their dressing room, only to admit that she wants to get to know God. While on his way to find Mina, Radisson is struck by a car and fatally injured. Reverend Dave (David A. R. White (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_A._R._White)) finds him and guides him in becoming a Christian as he dies. Mark at last visits his mother, only to taunt her; she responds that all of his financial success was given to him by Satan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satan).
As the film ends, the Newsboys play a video clip of Willie Robertson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willie_Robertson) congratulating Josh. The Newsboys then play their song "God's Not Dead", dedicating it to Josh.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/God's_Not_Dead_(film)#cite_note-5)

its not deep at all... its simple and cheesy

- mean atheist professor who wont pass his students until they sign a paper that says god isn't real

- mean atheist who wont visit his ailing mother

- mean atheist who makes fun of christian girl with his other atheist friends

- mean atheist becomes religious as he's dying

its basically a lifetime/oxygen movie except the role of "evil, woman-hating man" is portrayed as atheists

This kind of "thing" is why Christopher Hitchens stopped even debating, really, with the "experts" on stage, and instead spent most of his time talking with the audience. The same debunked "proofs" keep showing up, theists keep using unconventional definitions to "redefine" terms so that their arguments appear solid, and they shift the burden of proof to the atheist. When someone has published a scientific paper in a scientific journal that illustrates the existence of a god, I will give it more consideration. The tendency to separate god from science while using science to lay the claim in the 1st place motivates me to ignore the claim.

Notice I haven't made the claim that a god does not exist. I also haven't claimed that the flying spaghetti monster doesn't exist.

Even if that is representative of many muslims(i don't know if it is in America) It is in bad form to do portray the only muslim guy that way.

Oshane Baily
Trevor Green
Dexter Lee
Debbie Dunn
Orville Taylor
Oral Thompson
Peanut the Kidnapper
Marvin Essor
Roxroy Cato
Merlene Otty

Let's see...yep...all trained in the states.

And here we have Haiti. Can anyone name any sprinters from Haiti????

Besides the big 5?

The first 26 foot long jumper in history was a Haitian soccer player (actually the captain of their international team) named Silvio Cator.

The great Canadian sprinter Bruny Surin was born in Haiti.

Usian Bolt, Nesta Carter, Asafa Powell and Yohan Blake were not trained in the USA and they are the four fastest Jamaicans.

Then we have Olympic 100m gold medalist (1996) Donovan Bailey who represented Canada but was born in Jamaica. Then we had Great Britians Linford Christie who also won an (1992) Olympic 100m gold medal and was also born in Jamaica.

Ben Johnson the Canadian who won the 88 Olympic 100m was born in Jamaica, as we know he got popped for steroids.

All of these great Jamaican sprinters were trained at US schools.

Herb McKenley WR 400 Illinois, histories first sub 45.0 4x4 relayer
George Rhoden WR 400 Morgan State
Dennis Johnson WR 9.3 San Jose State
Ray Stewart number one ranked, TCU
Don Quarrie Olympic 200m gold, USC
Lennox Miller Olympic silver.bronze 100m USC

Then a whole gang/slew of sub 10.00/20.00 guys.

The year was 1952, the above mentioned Herb McKenley and George Rhoden teamed up with 400/800 ace Arthur Wint (first of the Jamaicans to stay home) and Fresno States Les Laing a 200 guy to break the world record in the 4x4 relay and win the gold. This was the first sign of Jamaican sprint prowess. All those mentioned won Olympic medals in other events except Laing and he did make the 20m final.

welll...there's the 40 yard dash and the 40 meter dash. Also a 100 meter dash and...yep...here we have 100 yard dash. We also have what is in the books for high school students but...some of the fastest runners never went to high school.

Avante, serious question, who holds the records for 40 yard dash/sprint and 100 yard dash or whatever the fuck you call it in high school sports?

The 40 is never ran at a track event, it's used as a speed barometer in football. The fastest time ever ran was a 4.12 by Auburn running back Bo Jackson. Which is stunning considering he was a 220 pounder. Usually anything in that 4.35 world is considered legit jets.

Southern Illinois Ivory Crockett and Santa Monica CC/Cerritos Houston McTear share the 100 yard record at 9.0. The amazing thing there is that McTear ran that time as a HS junior.

I have a little story....

I was at the West Coast Relays in Fresno, when the PA announcer..."this just in from the Florida State High School Championships......Baker Highs Houston McTear has just set a new high school record of....9 point 2"..the crowd goes crazy with...woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!...the n the announcer...."that was in the semi final"

A little later the PA guy gets on again....

"this just in from the Florida State High School Track & Field Championships, you might wanna sit down for this one......Baker highs Houston McTear as just ran a 9.......................FLAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!" the crowd is going bonkers with....WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! then the announcer...."as most of you now that ties the world record'.

We will never see another HS sprinter run a sprint WR, that was a once in a lifetime occurance,

ATHIEST KID: Mom, I'm going to go fuck a hooker.
ATHIEST MOM: Okay, son.
ATHIEST KID: Afterwards, I'm going to go smoke pot with my friends, since it's "not addictive."
ATHIEST MOM: Okay, come home soon!
The athiest kid leaves the room. The father comes home from work several minutes later.
ATHIEST DAD: Hey!
ATHIEST MOM: Hi, honey! I'm pregnant again. I guess I'll just get another abortion, since "fetuses don't count as human life."
ATHIEST DAD: Okay, get as many abortions as you want!
ATHIEST MOM: Oh, and don't go in the bedroom.
ATHIEST DAD: Why not?
ATHIEST MOM: There are two gay men fucking each other in there.
ATHIEST DAD: Why are they here?
ATHIEST MOM: I wanted to watch them do it for awhile. They just aren't finished yet.
ATHIEST DAD: Okay, that's fine with me!
Suddenly, their neighbor runs into the house.
ATHIEST NEIGHBOR: Come quick, there's a Christian outside!
ATHIEST MOM: We'll be right there!
The athiest couple quickly put on a pair of black robes and hoods. They then exit the house, and run into the street, where a Christian is nailed to a large, wooden X. He is being burned alive. A crowd of athiests stand around him, all wearing black robes and hoods.
RANDOM ATHIEST: Damn you, Christian! We hate you! We claim to be tolerant of all religions. But we really hate your's! That's because we athiests are hypocritical like that! Die, Christian!
THE END
Scary, isn't it?

No actually it's not at all.
Not from any engineering point of view or biological point of view.
In fact the human body itself is full of imperfect design and vestigial structures.

Why even pretend you've ever even seen one of these gambling mags/books? You are totally completely 100% wrong. These guys are professional gamblers and their plays hiy 65%- 68%. Which is fantastic.

Dude, they have historically strong plays already listed like they always do, those plays alone hit around 60%.

What it is is that you simply don't understand this stuff, you're clueless. Yep...ignorant.

the distance from the sun isn't "perfect." the temperatures on Mars can support life as we know it. besides when you consider the sheer number of planets/stars, it would actually be expected for there to be millions of planets with nearly identical conditions to earth.

Most of the animal phyla that existed on our planet had no skeletons. They were soft bodied and very weird, but we got some really good imprints in the Burgess Shale. And what's cool is we find more all the time. Some huge discoveries have been made recently in China, the work continues.

No it's not, it's just that this is what we face.

Reptiles walk on four legs that sprawl from the sides of their bodies, a configuration that helps them to move through the water. ****Around 300 million years ago, a new family of reptiles appeared with legs****** that were positioned beneath the body instead to give better support for walking on the land. These new animals were the earliest ancestors of mammals, and they rose to dominate a landscape rich with plant and insect life. Early mammals also adapted to living on the land by evolving higher body temperatures. This allowed them to move faster over longer distances and more actively search for food. They could hunt any time of the day or night, in any season, and could survive further north or south in colder climates. They evolved hairs on their skin to retain body warmth in cold weather.

Sure.... just decided that sacrificing all sort of living creatures would help hide his favorite creatures sins from him :lmao.... just to think about the stupidity of the expiation by sacrifice system should be proof enough for any person with average intelligence to see old testament son of a bitch (bible god :lol) is man made.

Just asking, no offense meant.

Don't argue God with people. I don't like people trying to sway me one way or the other.
its impossible to sway somebody's beliefs about God, since it's ultimately based on faith anyway, as opposed to hard evidence. it can boil down to people trying to prove/disprove god's existence, but its up to the individuals if they choose to make the leap of faith or not

the main thing that gets on my nerves is when people argue certain scientific points when they have zero grasp of the concept at hand

2 Samuel 21 King James Version (KJV)

21 Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lord answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

2 And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)

3 Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of the Lord?

4 And the Gibeonites said unto him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shalt thou kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you.

5 And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the coasts of Israel,

6 Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto the Lord in Gibeah of Saul, whom the Lord did choose. And the king said, I will give them.

7 But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the Lord's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

8 But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bare unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite:

9 And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before the Lord: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.

10 And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.

11 And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.

12 And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabeshgilead, which had stolen them from the street of Bethshan, where the Philistines had hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in Gilboa:

13 And he brought up from thence the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son; and they gathered the bones of them that were hanged.

14 And the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the sepulchre of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was intreated for the land.God seemed pretty pleased with the very literal sacrifice of seven men in his name.

Plus it's not a matter of swaying IMHO.
It's a matter of discussing without the intent of swaying in the first place in order to better understand someone's point of view.
To do otherwise is an attempt to proselytize or convert someone who does not want to be converted in the first place.
That could be considered to be an invasion and thus be resisted rather than sharing points of views IMHO.

So you believe in a literal translation?

So you believe in a literal translation?I only have the words written in the Bible to go on here.

Explain how it is an allegorical human sacrifice.

Use the scripture itself to show how seven men were not really killed to gain God's favor in this account.

I see, you're the guy that writes a lot and says nothing, I've read some of your circular reasoning here and there. answering your question, it depends on who you ask.... what do you believe? Did crist actually died and resurrected or is all allegorical made up stuff?

Why would the Bible not mean what it says?

Are you calling the Bible a lie?

No, I think there is much truth contained within it, as there are in all the great books.
But I see more allegory than literalism is all I am saying.
I think Jesus Christ actually did die and resurrected.
But there is no way I can prove it.
I can't prove evolution either.
Nor can I prove the universe is expanding.

So, jesus did die and resurrected, but some other stories are allegories? how convenient. Let me guess.... every time old testament lunatic deity does something crazy it is an allegory, when dude does good it is literal.

Define truth please.

I'll try not to go in circles if I can.

Some of the allegory was explained through the use of parables, but even the parables were shrouded in mystery for reasons that only today we are beginning to understand like the parable of the mustard seed IMHO.
But parables were also a form of allegorical story telling, they were meant to give us lessons in how to live our lives. In other cases they were meant to be symbols of of things alluded to but not openly explained, such as brothers symbolizing mountains, or cities, etc., things of that nature.
The OT is full of it more so than the NT IMHO.
But keep in mind, this is my opinion.

I think much of the resurrection may have been literal.
But not having been there, there is no way I can say for sure.

Times change, and so does the morals evolve with the times.

Seriously, it's much easier to believe seven dudes were sacrificed in an attempt to please God than to believe God spawned himself by impregnating a virgin, then let himself be killed and resurrected himself then just left for good, only to be seen later in clouds and toast.

so you take some parts of the bible literally, but other parts figuratively.

But not having been there, there is no way I can say for sure.
of course. again, that's why this is a discussion of your beliefs. i've never asked you to tell me exactly what happened. i've always just asked for your beliefs. it seems you have moved on from those nonsensical arguments and are being a bit clearer about your belief system :tu
