your #4 pick took a 3 star QB and helped develop him into a Heisman winner.
Just sayin.
Honestly, I don't like the douche swag thing Sumlin and Kingsbury have going on. I've always liked my coaches to be some sort of authority figure, not people I can relate to. Strong seems a little slow to me honestly but I'd still rather play for him over the first two.
Top 3 in Texas would be Patterson, Coker and Briles imo.

even we knew that at the time. just because kingsbury and sumlin have a system in place that highlights certain talents, doesn't mean they develop them.

you seem to think 3 star prospects are worthless. so do you think colt mccoy was groomed into a heisman candidate by mack brown?

So do you just pick and choose when to give credit and when to give blame? Can't credit Mack with McCoy and can't credit Sumlin or Kliff with Johnny. When do you give coaches credit? Let me guess, Strong for Louisville's defense?

the OP didn't specifically say what position would you rather play under them. i'd say those coaches are very specialized or recruit assistants who are. Strong seems more like an all-around coach, plus in hindsight all of those coaches had a player who was a heisman candidate. it's interesting to take team's F/+ from years past and compare them with recruiting rankings to give a rough estimate of how the team was developed.
as far as development goes i'd rather have a coach who focused on more discipline and demanded that i was at my very best rather than tell me how great beyonce and i are. matter of personal opinion, of course.

I simply questioned the excitement over a 3 star prospect that would have been asked to play defense at UT.
And yeah, coaching staff at UT deserves some rare credit for actually coaching a kid up in McCoy's case.

Sure. But if you're a QB, there's no denying what Kliff has done regardless of Beyonce.
He's a 2 time offensive coordinator of the year with two different schools in two different conferences.
At Houston, Case Keenum broke all sorts of records
A&M Johnny won the Heisman
Tech: Webb and Mayfield both got big 12 offensive player if the week awards
Mayfield got big 12 freshman offensive player of the year.
As a walk on.
coach kliff told them not to mess with the hair. classic.

ditto to the farmer
and just because you have a coach who enables you to put up stats in college doesn't mean it will translate well into the NFL. on the contrary, the game manager types tend to last longer.

I didn't make one.
You said " based off of who would develop me best as a player and simply not play the most athletic or gifted ones"
Keenum will start games for the Texans this year.
Johnny is a first round pick.
I'd say the odds are high that Webb gets drafted too.
No straw here.

yeah you made it about quarterbacks. what if i wasn't a quarterback?
regardless, teddy bridgewater.
ever heard of a certain gingeresque quarterback doing very well at cincy? all of the coaches had a great quarterback and/or heisman candidate at one time.
and no, i didn't play quarterback. so why would i give a fuck?

You didn't specify which position. You left it open, so I listed a two star and a three star player that Kliff has helped develop into Heisman candidates/winner and pro material.

nice little new vocab word you got there though. maybe you should re-check your vocab list of the week to verify what it exactly is.

Nobody is arguing against you on that one. Nobody brought up "game manager".
Just you. Pure straw.

"strawman" has been used a lot on these boards. I've brought up the term a lot myself over the years when I see one in action.
See ya later.

What has Webb done to suggest the 'odds are high'? Has any Tech QB even been drafted since Kliff? And he actually put up monster numbers+broke records, and was still only a 6th-7th rounder.
Blake
08-23-2014, 09:30 AM
Odds are high, imo.
Kliff had a noodle arm. Symons got drafted I think by the Texans, but he was short.
Webb's the build of an NFL QB and Kliff said he has top 5 pick potential.
We know if he stays healthy that the numbers will be there.
Put it all together and I personally think it's a lock he goes somewhere in the first 7 rounds.
And Coker thinks Tucker Carter has 'next level potential'. Doesnt make it any more true, coaches are homers.
At this point Webb hasnt done anything that suggests his odds are high. You are basically being a homer by considering his absolute best case scenario a given.
Blake
08-23-2014, 03:53 PM
Yeah, it's true I don't have any evidence. It's my opinion that he'll be a draft pick based on everything I've seen and read of the kid.
If you want to call homer, you can. If you want to put a couple of bucks on Webb getting drafted, I'm fine with that too.
ill put $100 on him not getting drafted

If we can come up with some decent parameters regarding injury/health, you have a deal
I can agree to that if he has a career ending injury. If he just struggles to stay healthy no, since the fact that he is currently a toothpick is part of the reason why I think saying his odds are high is really premature.

Toothpick? Lol no.
http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/story/kliff-kingsbury-texas-tech-davis-webb-primed-for-big-12-stardom-052814
He can't miss more than 25% (must play in 75%) of his remaining college football days due to injury.
If he gets benched because he sucks and misses those games, too bad for me.

If Kliff had any semblance of defense and could get to 8 or 9 wins he'd be getting a lot more attention of being a true QB guru.
Instead, he'll be on the hot seat next year.
