1. Earl Watson - Great defender who has a knack for big plays. Would be a perfect fit.
2. Nick Van Exel - Long in the tooth but can still shoot. Could be deadly off the bench.
3. Damon Jones - Great three-point shooter. However, wants to be a starter.
4. Dan Dickau - Coming off breakout season. Could be steal for right price.
5. Tyronn Lue - Very quick. Improving outside shot. Rumored to be staying put in ATL.
6. Milt Palacio - Good overall player and underrated defender. Would be a good fit.
7. Jannero Pargo - A timvp favorite. Can shoot and plays with a lot of effort.
8. Willie Green - Contract was called off after tearing up his knee. Buy low?
9. Mike Wilks - Wilks showed he could get the job done. One more time?
10, Steve Blake - Can't shoot or defend but is a nice ballhandler and distributor.
11. Andre Barrett - Small player who showed flashes as a rookie. Decent prospect.
12. Dajuan Wagner - Scored 100 points in a high school game. Hasn't done much since.
13. Eddie House - Can light it up. But that's the extent of his game.
14. Travis Best - Getting old and never was that good.
15. Gary Payton - Hanging around the NBA. The Glove is now The Turnstile.
16. Keith McLeod - Can't shoot but had some good games against the Spurs.
17. Anthony Goldwire - Former Spur who hasn't found a stable spot in the league.
18. Erick Strickland - Barely hanging on to a spot in the league but can score.
19. Mateen Cleaves - A natural leader. Not too good at basketball.
20. Tyus Edney - Why not? Currently playing for Team USA in the qualifying tournament.

Beno-Hanging around the Spurs locker room with a purse, decent shooter, can't get the ball past half court.

I've seen him play a lot. He's better than you think.

Are your comments based on who you think would be a good third string (possible second string) PG for the Spurs?

Yes ma'am.

i am biased against pargo bc he's a former laker, and i am looking at this from the angle of 3rd stringers, but i just find it funny that he's a timvp favorite

Well for third string PG, I don't really mind anyone on this list.
My favorites would be Van Exel and Watson.
My least favorites would be Palacio, Blake, Best, Payton, or Cleaves.

Pargo played great for the Bulls in the last playoffs games.
Tyrus Edney should be higher...

Edney is like 5'8. That's what keeps him at the bottom. :lol

Third string? Who is the second string? Don't we need second and third?

ditto
I prefer Van Exel for this season but Watson could also help for the years to come. However, what i don't like about Watson is his shooting. In my opinion the spurs has enought with Parker who isn't a good 3-point and free throw shooter.

A veteran player would be a very welcome relief for 3rd string backup PG. That seems to point to Van Exel. Watson could very well overtake Beno as Tony's backup if given minutes early in the season. But I would still like a veteran.

dan dickau is gone to celtics (might free up some others)
Timvp, Pargo is going to be difficult to get... lakers were going for dickau or him and they have 2,5M left to spend.
Unless thsy find a big to spend it on pargo will be laker

Tyus Edney is off the board. He signed with Olympiakos earlier this month.
Dickau going to the Celts.
Damon Jones will get at least 3 Meg from the Heat, or more from Cleveland. Out of Spurs' money league.
Watson and Van Exel would restrict Beno to "small" lineup looks and 3rd PG minutes.
Pargo might have the same impact. I am still shaking my head over Pargo's big-time shots against the Wizards in that incredible comeback game.
Of the others, Barrett is an appealing Mike Wilks replacement.

You rank Mike Wilks above Gary Payton?
Solid D

Gary Payton has done it all. Would he forgo a pay-out to take another ring shot with Shaq (if Damon Jones leaves), or with the Spurs in a low-profile, veteran leadership and experience (PG tutor) role?
Thanks for taking the time to put together that list and comments, timvp.

Give me NVE and lets call it a day.

If I were GM, my first choice would be Earl Watson. Second would be NVE because I feel the guy has at least one more year left in him to shoot a last second shot to give the Spurs a key victory. Third choice would be GP. Its obvious he isn't the same, but in key situations I would rather hand him the ball instead of Beno.

thanks for the list Timvp.
not many names corresponds to the veteran PG the spurs seems to look for...
did you consider justin Hamilton and if you did why not in the 20?
sorry i did not make my homework.
he signed with sienna in august... he is not available.

If the Spurs are offering a prime seat on IR, then the pickings will be slim.
One thing they could do is forget about the 5th swingman/wing being a 3 and go with a point like Watson or NVE. Watson would supplant Udrih as the backup point, whereas NVE could conceivably be more of a spot player in SA, a guy who could see a few minutes at the 2 against smaller backcourts.
Would you want a young 3 (like a Linton Johnson) who's yet to establish himself in the league as your 12th man or would you want a NVE?

Justin wasn't overly impressive for the Spurs' Summer League team, other than his quickness. He is committed to Siena in the Italian League, now though.

Overall that list stinks. Earl is easily the best of the bunch.

Werd. The Spurs will be lucky to find a Wilks caliber insurance policy IMHO.
