What I've seen of him doesn't look good, but he was the number 2 overall pick in his draft and he's a 7'3" shot blocker. Maybe worth at least a training camp invite?

He's probably one of the biggest offensive liabilities in the league. His defense, is Ok for the most part and he knows how to deal with post up player and PnR...but he is so bad offensively, It hurts my eyes.

I don't know what it is but this guy never gets mentioned in biggest draft busts of all time lists. 2 ppg for his career as the number 2 pick

Maybe when memphis or houston was dumping him. But he's older now. And i think the spurs are set at big. Diaw and Splitter are interchangeable to start with Timmy. I thought Baynes and summer league stand out (turned out to be J Green) would be plenty of injury/garbage time depth, and still the Spurs brought back Bonner.

I was thinking if Baynes doesn't re-sign. Even then, I'd still think I'd might give him a look. Maybe with great coaching, and a clearly defined role, he can be another Spurs reclamation project.

I don't know man, you've got David Robinson as one of the players in your avatar and this guy, Thabeet, as another poster mentioned (I didn't know his scoring stat prior to that post), averaged 2pts per game as the second pick in the draft. That is not good at all. I don't think he's even worth a look.

Reading this:

could plug a hole in the missing center spot.

beggars can't be choosers. There is nothing left but veteran minimums.

If we're going after shitty former #2 picks I'd much rather the Spurs look at Derrick Williams

Why not get Sam Bowie, the greatest #2 pick ever?

LaMarcus Aldridge was the #2 pick in the 2006 draft.......IJS

Thabeet is horrible on both offense and defense and basketball IQ-wise makes Stromile Swift look like Tim Duncan.

I have always called him the biggest bust in history. Kwame Brown, Darko Milicic, and Michael Olowokandi are far superior players. I'm sure most people saw him being a bust coming 30 miles away.

Thabeet is truly a terrible basketball player and one of the worst draft busts of all time, tbh. I would much rather have Cole Aldrich.

Are the Spurs looking at bringing in Thabeet to work the concession stands in the AT&T center??????

And this shows that nba gms don't watch college basketball through the year. They just wait until the tournament, watch the top teams, and then pick whomever from the top teams that is projected to do good things. Thabeet, a 7'3 center, used to get abused by Blair , the height of most small forwards, on the regular during the big east season when Uconn woulds play Pitt. Even had a 20/20 game against him. While Thabeet was the 2nd pick int he draft, blair dropped to the 2nd round in which we picked him. Blair was the guy I wanted all along. The same draft Johnny Flynn was taken over Steph Curry. I wanted Fareed a few years ago. I couldn't believe how many foreign players were being drafted ahead of him. Everyone still trying to hit that Nowitzski lottery. I actually watch college basketball and attend games. The spurs actually do their international homework a bit haha. Doesnt' hurt they've had popovich and duncan.

The guys is pretty much a bust.

The Thunder had him on their bench for two seasons. He didn't amount to much.

However, considering the lack of centers in the Spurs roster and some signs of life for Thabeet in the D-legaue, for the minimum deal, it may be worth it to have a 7'3" center in the roster.
