Great move from a business perspective...no need for the valuable roster spot when your QB is out for the year and you pretty much quit on the season. Just milk this gay cow for all it's worth now

spurraider21

he was a 7th round pick as a pass rush specialist and he did put up 3 sacks in the preseason. couldn't hurt keeping him

He's not a bad football player really. From what I watches, he has a quick first step and could come in on the occasional third down and rush the edge.....if you know what I mean

I cannot believe you guys....wow!

You have any idea (no) how many players get cut then end up ..."starring"...for another team? Remember...James Harrison?

Steelers draft a QB out of Lousiville, they give him a good look....nay! So they dump him, he gets picked up by the Colts.....Johnny Unitas.

Slow small white guy gets drafted, yep too small. too slow, so he gets dumped, the Seahawks pick him up.....Steve Largent.

Slow down people, shessh~~~~~~~~~~

I will add this, yes the attention he got won't help, do teams really need this...no!

mojorizen7

I watched every game.
Sam did some good things in the preseason at times rushing the passer and getting into running lanes occasionally. The effort was there. He played with a high motor and showed some physical ability. He's worked hard and kept his mouth shut(sorry) :king
He didn't contribute on special teams.

IMO he can be a rotation pass rusher in a 4-3...but not here in St Louis where Quinn, Long, Hayes and Sims are a solid group of DE's. Add to that UDFA rookie Ethan Westbrooks outplayed Sam in preseason.

Dallas could use a Michael Sam.

Avante
08-30-2014, 04:06 PM
I do have a little suspicion that after dfrafting Sam and seeing all the attention there was a..."we goofed and don't need this".

If Sam does fade into obscurity I doubt we'll be seeing anymore..."I'M GAY!!!!!!!"...out of some college players.

mojorizen7

You may not WANT him, but Dallas NEEDS pass rushers.

San Francisco might grab him to appeal to their community.

mojorizen7

Chris Mortensen ‏@mortreport

Fisher said cutting Sam was not a difficult decision. Cited roster strength; noted a 6th rounder & all four 7th rounders did not make cut

Fisher says there are no challenges if Sam gets a second opportunity somewhere else. "He just kept his head down and worked." Praised "motor."

Fisher: "I was pulling for him. It just didn't work out."

Listening to Jeff Fisher, I would say Michael Sam is not guaranteed a practice squad spot because of other position needs.

manufan10
08-30-2014, 04:28 PM
I could see him landing in Dallas. He probably showed more in preseason than the starting DE's for the Cowboys. :lol Plus, Jerry would love all the attention it would bring. Wasn't Sam one of the highest selling jerseys? Jerry: :greedy:greedy:greedy

:lol that Twitter account is nice, tbh..

Sam will make it on another team IMO, he looked good enough to make it on a roster from what I saw..definitely not a starter, obviously..

Rams are stacked at his position and he can't play ST, so cutting him makes sense, but I'm sure he will land on a team that desperately needs D-line help..

He shouldn't go to the Ram's PS. They aren't likely to every call him up from there. He'd have a chance at a place like Tampa, which doesn't have a lot of d-line depth, suffers from injuries and runs a scheme where undersized edge-rushers have a chance to succeed.

Ross Tucker, an analyst for NBC and Sirius XM NFL Radio among other outlets, wondered aloud via Twitter: "Michael Sam performed much better than most expected and still isn't even on a practice squad?"

This is going the same route as your picks.
Better use of your flip flop time is to go look up Pete Carols 2004 and 2005 records.

Someone like Brady who chooses not to come out should not be forced to.

What I found interesting about this situation was how this...."it's 2014, we are way above all that now"....when it's real obvious, no we aren't. And we will never be.

I seriously doubt we'll seeing other gay footballers .....I'M GAY DEAL WITH IT....any time soon coming out of the NCAA. Let the NFL find out on their own and then make it real clear you don't wanna talk about it anymore than anyone else wants to talk about their sexuality.

He shouldn't won that award. The majority of his sacks were in three games against horrible teams and only one of them was a SEC team. Otherwise he really didn't much in conference play.

Also factor in his lack of speed, lack of versatility, lack of skills outside of being a pass rusher, and promoting himself as a gay hero, he's not worth the distraction.

That's right Slick. See when ya know football you can see an ongoing obstacle for Sam is he is too small to play defensive end. Unless he up's his speed he is too slow to play outside linebacker. In addition to what Pelicans78, DD and Will Hunting are trying to tell you.

I would think his bridges are burned in Montreal:

After leaving Montreal, Sam told radio host Dan Patrick (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dan_Patrick_Show) on his show that he never wanted to play in the CFL to begin with "It was a really last call to go to the CFL. I never really wanted to go to the CFL, but I did and I committed to going,"

True, and yet he has made it a story. However packing aside, he certainly could have other issues that are contributing to his making the NFL or not. He said he left the CFL Montreal for mental personal reasons.

Check what he went thru earlier:
Sam is the seventh of eight children born to JoAnn and Michael Alan Sam, Sr. His parents separated when he was young.[3] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Sam#cite_note-father-3) As a child, Sam watched one of his older brothers die from a gunshot wound.
