View Full Version : Report: NFL Asked Teams To Consider Michael Sam

Michael Sam reportedly had a powerful ally working behind the scenes after he was cut by Rams over the weekend.
While Sam was unemployed, the NFL worked to gauge interest in the defensive end, according to football insider Peter King. Sam became the league’s first openly gay player when he was drafted in the seventh round by St. Louis.
“During that time, a league official contacted multiple teams asking if they had evaluated Sam as a probable practice squad player,” King said during Thursday’s broadcast of the season opener between Seattle and Green Bay.
“Sam and the NFL avoided a nightmare situation when he signed with the practice squad of the Dallas Cowboys,” King added.

Gays are good at getting attention though they represent only a small part of society. NFL simply tapping into that glory hole of ratings.

We see some pretty stupid stuff, stuff like alcohol is legal while pot isn't, people thinking it's "radical Islam" when in fact that is Islam. And this misconception about homosexuality. Hell no men don't wanna be around some guy who digs men. Why everyone has to accept that or else, is stupid. Everyone had to say..."I;m cool with it"...and we know it, that sucks. If a player would have said..."hell no I;m not cool with it"...he's in trouble. Look at what happened to Dungy's opinion.
There is a reason we have never had a "known" gay head coach at any level of football.
The NFL is not the place for gay men, here we have some of the biggest baddest guys on earth, little sensitivities not in their DNA. Nobody gives a damn about a guy with some wires crossed, fuck him!
Sam is an idiot anyway, he didn't have enought common sense to realize nobody wanted to see ...the kiss? He couldn't be cool there?

How about a guy who lived with a bunch of men for 4 years and played 20 years of organized football? It's exactly like that.

I think the league has been pretty accepting of Michael Sam. They don't care that he's gay. What matters is if he can play football. I think the bigger issue here is the media attention that it has created. The daily ESPN update throughout the whole process was crazy. They're talking nonstop about a 7th round draft pick turned practice squad player. They're talking more about Sam than the number one draft pick.

What else can the league/players say? They have no choice but to be accepting of him......none! I have no doubts of any kind that behind the scenes nobody wants the guy around. Just like at Missouri, we were led to believe it was all good there, when it really wasn't.

Exactly. And the media keeps wanting to act like they aren't the ones making this an issue in the first place. No one should care that he's gay. But that goes both ways. Players will care about a scrub carrying a media circus around him.
Sam should just tell the media to go away. Directly. So long as people think he's seeking the attention, he won't really get the respect of his teammates.

This has nothing to do with Sam, it's about the bullshit we are seeing because of homosexuality. We aren't seeing reality here and it's obvious. We are seeing a big business doing what it must.

I just know how it really is having played the game/military/work world. It's not..."hey, it's ok with me"...at all. That's a gigantic load of bullshit and you also know it is. The players have no choice at all and that's what sucks the most. They..MUST..."cool with me"...and that's not right.
Imagine what would happen to any player that...."you fucking fagggot"...out on the field. When shit like that ain't nothing in a football game at any level.

Are you really naive enought to think in a state like Missouri it was..."alright a gay player!"...come on man. I gurantee it wasn't like we were led to believe and yes there was talk about it.
Tell me how is the gay thing at where you work, where I worked (about 800 employees) they were joked about/laughed at.....behind their back obviously. And if anyone had of been asked...."does John's gayness bother you"...it would have been a loud ..."of course not"...by all those poking fun at John.

I do think Avante is making some good points. It's silly for people to act like Sam is only in the headlines because of people who don't want gays in the NFL. The world hasn't moved on from making a big deal out of homosexuality. It's just that now, people are trying to force it to be okay with everyone. It's like saying affirmative action ended discrimination in the workforce and in college admissions. It hasn't and in fact it keeps it a bigger deal than it should be.
The PC world is one of the biggest examples of hypocrisy out there.

We went from its ok to kill gay people, to its totally not cool to kill gay people, to its not cool to absolutely despise gay people, to if you dont love gay people a lot and worship them then you're going to lose your job. It's just too much of a 180 turn in expectations. Can't we just not give a fuck? I never gave a fuck, they seem to be nice people all bullshit aside but I dont like them much because they cant go 5 seconds without mentioning they're gay. Aside from that, I got no issues with them.

It's not about the player it's about how everyone...MUST...be cool with it. Nobody is allowed to give their true opinion, that sucks! If anyone in the NFL said..."I don't want a gay teammate".......they'd be in big trouble, that's wrong.
