Growing up I don't think there was a better place to pass time than at the local arcade. We have a chain here in SA (not sure if it's nation wide) called Diversions, and I use to love when my Dad needed a piece of ass because that meant I was getting dropped off there with 20 bucks for at least a few hours.

To me the golden age of the arcade was from about 1994-2000. I could remember the feeling of walking into an arcade, the shit was loud as hell, and you instantly picking up the sounds from Mortal Kombat; Shao Kahn announcing and the screams of someone getting an uppercut, or to finish someone, Killer Instinct's announcer yelling out 'Ultraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Combooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo", and NBA Jam letting you know someone is heating up or on fire.

You go to an arcade these days, and they are fucking Android/iOS games built into an arcade cabinet :td

Anyways, what are your favorites? Here are a few of mine:

Lot's of good shit up there, I could have named all of them as well but then I would have killed my own thread :lol

Double Dragon - Used to love being a douchebag and coming in, getting the other player all pumped up that he was gonna have some help, and then proceed in throwing his ass into a pit :lol

Street Fighter II - This is one I would have to disagree with just because every god damn arcade in the US pumped the difficulty so fucking high I couldn't beat more than 2 fighters.

X-Men - This was the shit also, especially when the arcade of choice wasn't poor and purchase the multi-screened 6 player version :tu

This reminds we of a couple more that took a shit load of my parents hard earned quarters:

Pit Fighter - Getting stabbed by spectating drunks in shady bars? :tu Great times, Ty was the shit

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnFU-BXda2A

Simpsons Arcade - Multiplayer fun, and the stupid in between level contests (inflating balloons) were the shit

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDwjHReA3NM

WWF Wrestlefest - Fucking Hogan you cocksucker, stop asking me to insert more coins to regain power..

I can remember internet being this thing of legend, and 0.001% of people having it. You'd get that one douchebag at the arcade with a movelist for MK2, and these fools would act like they had the cure for AIDS in their hands when it came to asking to see it.

Street Fighter II - loved being a 9, 10 year old kid when that game came out and beating the shit of people way older than me
Mortal Kombat - I remember buying game magazines at Drug Emporium (anyone from SA remember this store) and writing down the fatalities down on paper and taking it to the bowing alley and wasting money trying to perform them when the place was empty and the machine was mine.
Samurai Showdown - quirky as shit but still liked it
Marvel vs Capcom - 100 hit combos? Sure, why not.
NBA Jam - fun as shit but must had been the loudest machine in the arcades
Simpsons Arcade - nuff said

I bought Smash TV for Super NES and didn't know it was even an arcade game. Saw it sometime later. Awesome game. Love the twin joystick stuff (no homo). Robotron was awesome but Smash TV took it to the next level.

I hated the motherfuckers who used Guile in Street Fighter II. They would crouch, charge and repeatedly Sonic Boom you. You would jump to get them, and they would Flash Kick you out of the air. His throw moves always seem to take priority over others outside of Zangief. I liked beating people with Chun-Li.

Marvel v Capcom... the first one though. i hated the newer installments. too much shit going on.

NBA on NBC Showtime - where everybody had idea muscle definition :lol.

NFL Blitz

RAMPAGE! - giant monsters destroying a city. why not?

Simpsons Arcade Game

Hydro Thunder - best h2h multiplayer game. i used to play the shit out of this at Gameworks in vegas when i was younger. me and my dad would get the 1 hour unlimited pass and spend at least 30 minutes playing this game :lol

Ms Pac Man

Tekken - well, tekken 3 and tekken tag mainly. never played the newer ones. i preferred them on console, but the arcade was good enough

Favorite MK II character? I like Kitana. There was this one ridiculous combo: I think it was jump kick into fan throw, then lift with the fan, uppercut, and flying punch before they hit the ground. I think it took like 60% of your opponent's life bar if you could execute it, and there was no way out of it once they got hit with that first jump kick.:lol

Remember how the MK's (really arcade games in general but more so w/ the MK's) would have revisions? You would go to one arcade and they would be running revision 2.3, and then another would be running 3.1?

I remember nearly shitting myself when some asshole wizard morphed Shang Tsung into Kintaro and punched a dude in half with revision 3.1..This is when they introduced The Dead Pool fatality as well IIRC...

It was a crappy laser disc game a la Dragon's Lair. I remember seeing it but never playing it because it looked dumb as fuck. :lol

Holy shit, I don't know why that game reminded me of the Time-Out arcade in downtown next to the Alamo in the early to mid 90s. Maybe that's where I saw it.

Also reminds me of Aladdin's Castle or whatever that place was called at Windsor Park Mall where they mostly had mechanical games iirc.. Well they had two arcades, one upstairs (Aladdin) and one downstairs close to the movies. The one close to the movies was the main one.

Yeah I think it became Ripleys. In the late 90s, that corner store became Foot Locker (forgot what it was before that), then the store next to it was a Burger King with two floor levels and I remember always going upstairs and eating there as a kid. I've always loved Burger King all of my life because of that specific place. :lol There was something else between the Burger King and the Footlocker, I forget, I think it was a Walgreens that moved down Houston Street or something.

But yeah Time-Out was great and kind of a rip off. They knew tourists went there and all the machine prices were jacked up.
