I like him for an camp contract then Toros assignment. Don't see much good in him being on the Spurs, however.

I remember liking him back in the '13 draft. He's got some qualities that fit well into the Spurs culture. Definitely wouldn't mind seeing him on the Toros next season as a developmental prospect.

Shot 37% from 3 in the D League on 4 attempts per game, and his shooting was one of the big question marks coming out of college. He has the size and length to defend either guard position, if his quickness is up to par then he should be a no brainer pick up.

By comparison, he is an inch shorter than Green but an inch longer wingspan. Green is also a much better shooter, Danny shot 50% from 3 on 7 attempts per game in the D League as a rookie.

Guy's a stat stuffer. His JR year at SDSU, he averaged 16.6p/9.4r/3.3a/1.6st.

I wanted him in last year's draft. He's a way better project than Baynes, Daye, or Ayres, and he's still just 23.

Kawhi, Malcolm, Josh Davis, now Jamaal...this is a really good relationship between Pop and Fisher/SDSU program.

I'd like Mal THomas, too, but he's currently on an non-guaranteed deal with Cleveland. Utah picked him up when we waived him, but traded him to the Cavs this summer. Maybe we could trade Baynes for Mal Thomas? Cleveland does need a backup center, with Varajao so fragile.

3 for 7 is 50%? Or did he make 3 and a half out of 7?
Must be that new math I keep hearing about...

Eh, it's just like when Pop had a love affair with Argentine and French players.

I guess I'll look at Franklin again, since so many people liked him. His DX profile wasn't very encouraging.

Essentially means he shot seven attempts per game and made 3.5 of them on average.

I wonder if Franklin is Green insurance in the event that Danny prices himself out of SA? I really hope the Spurs don't try to moneyball him after paying a hurt Mills. However, if Jamaal really can shoot at an NBA level, then it certainly makes sense to get him in the system, whether as a replacement for Green or as the wing compliment to Kyle Anderson for the future bench. It just sucks that Beli is taking up a roster spot, because there's just no room for two wing prospects as is.

I had that same thought myself. Thabo Sefalosha just got the same money as Danny, and he's 3 years older and not as good. Danny is kind of the ultimate 3 and D guy in the league right now. He'll be in line for a raise. The only question is "how much?" He'll also be 28 next year, and it may be his last chance to cash out.

The max we should pay Green is the MLE, but we should ideally get him for less. $18m/4yr would be a good number for the Spurs.

My guess is that the Spurs will be willing to pay Danny a small premium above the MLE (something approaching Diaw's deal but with more guaranteed money) in order to keep him away from a contender like Cleveland. If some team with cap space wants to go considerably higher than that, then I think they'll let him walk.

I wonder if Franklin is Green insurance in the event that Danny prices himself out of SA?Highly doubtful IMO. I would say it's more seeing if he might be able to fill a Ginobili type role in the future. It's an outside shot but worth a look.

I can't see the Spurs running the risk of breaking up the probable future starting lineup of Parker/Green/Leonard/Diaw/Splitter going forward

Green deserves to get paid. If the spurs aren't happy with that. They should find out where he wants to play and trade him there, before training camp. Take the teams best offer. hopefully a 1st and a cap match scrub.

I'm a big Jamaal fan, he has great jumping ability, streaky shooter who could take over a game in college, however I'm very disappointed he hasn't bulked up like Kawhi, he has a thin frame and won't make it in the NBA in my opinion unless he does. Similar to Kawhi coming in he has no jump shot and limited dribbling skills creating space.

I might add we can only pray he has KL's work ethic.

Brandon Heath is next... he'll give the Spurs the flash they need.

That would be stupid. Keeping him on a value contract THIS year has very little effect on his ability to cash out NEXT summer.

I wonder how the workouts went. It would be nice to see Franklin signed, if only so the Toros can have his rights. Maybe Franklin's agent thinks he can get a guaranteed deal somewhere else?

I also wonder how a Mills/Franklin/Anderson/LJC/(Baynes, Seraphin or a similar center prospect) bench unit would look. On paper, it would seem to have a chance to be dynamic (elite rebounding, good passing and defense with questionable shooting outside of Mills), but there would be too many question marks and no real leader. I doubt the team could find a vet center to anchor the unit, unless someone like Tyson Chandler sees an incredible drop in his value.

Franklin is a defensive specialist, Anderson is way closer to Ginobili than he ever will be imo.

That said I like the idea, would be even better if they got rid of Beli to make room for him, would be such an improvement by subtraction... And you have Anderson as a secondary playmaker/PNR ball handler to replace Beli anyway...

TD Splitter
Diaw Beasley
Kawhi Ginobili
Green Franklin
TP Anderson

That team would be fun to watch :toast.

Wouldn't be the worst idea if Franklin could can consistently guard PGs like Green can. However, I'd like to see Anderson's ability to play the offensive point at this level before giving him that role over Joseph.

Franklin initiated the offense his Jr year at SDSU, so he's a bit more than a defensive specialist. Despite have no real jump shot, he consistently got into the paint to create or draw contact. He averaged 6.8 FTAs per game that season.

If Chip can fix his shot he can be a nice addition.

If he can get to the rim and play defense, but isn't a great shooter, I'd still be interested. If Chip thinks he can help him at all with his shot, he'd be a very good prospect to have.
