SEATTLE - The Seattle SuperSonics today exercised their right of first refusal on restricted free agent Damien Wilkins, Sonics General Manager Rick Sund announced. Wilkins, a guard/forward entering his second season, had received an Offer Sheet from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

“Due to his outstanding work ethic in his rookie season, Damien earned the respect of our players, coaches and fans,” said Sund. “He improved as much in one season as any player we can remember and we expect that trend to continue. We believe Damien will be a part of our young, talented core for years to come.”

In his rookie season, Wilkins appeared in 29 games, averaging 6.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 17.9 minutes. The 6-6, 225-pound swingman started seven games and scored in double figures on eight occasions, including two 20-plus point performances. Wilkins recorded a career-high 21 points at Portland on March 24, 2005.

During the 2005 NBA Playoffs, Wilkins played in seven games, averaging 5.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.43 steals in 19.4 minutes.

Wilkins, who was not drafted by an NBA franchise, originally signed with Seattle as a free agent on Oct. 4, 2004.

And Evans, another T Wolve target, looks like he'll sign with Detroit. So it's Jaric and Eddie Griffin? Suicide watch for sickDSM and KG?

The Wolves are also after Reggie Evans and Flip Murray.

If Reggie Evans goes somewhere else, Seattle will be in great need of a big man.

They will be in great need anyway. Their centers are Potapenko/Swift/Petro :lol

I think that's worse than their power forwards of Collison/Fortson.

I seriously doubt Reggie Evans will be leaving Seattle. Flip you couldn't give me.

True. Let's send tons of emails to Seattle saying something like, "Rasho loves the fish market."

He is asking for double of what the Sonics are willing to offer. Who knows what's going to happen.

What is Seattle offering?

Seattle will not be close to the team they had last year. Ray Allen will not be happy and that makes me happy.

I'm not sure exactly. The Q.O. is only $1M. I had read last week somewhere that he was looking for something in the 4year/$15M range, but that the Sonics were talking about like 3year/$8M. I'm looking for the article.

I'm looking at cap space for next year and the year after. Jaric has showed me more than wilkens in a couple of playoff games.

When KG jumps ship the Pups will have opportunities for all kinds of cap space.
