Cop Breaks Window To Use Taser Gun On Man Pulled Over For Seat Belt Violation (VIDEO) (http://www.addictinginfo.org/2014/10/07/cop-breaks-window-to-use-taser-gun-on-man-pulled-over-for-seat-belt-violation-video/)

AUTHOR: VERA (http://www.addictinginfo.org/author/vera/) OCTOBER 7, 2014 12:08 PM
Lisa Mahone was on her way to visit her dying mother in the hospital when she was pulled over for a seat belt violation. What should have been a standard, quick procedure ended with a Taser gun and an arrest.
Following procedures, Mahone gave the officers her license and proof of insurance. Mahone had her boyfriend Jamal Jones in the passenger seat and their 14-year-old son and seven-year-old daughter in the back seat.
After Mahone complied, police turned to Jones and asked for his license. Jones began to explain that he didn’t have his ID on him because he’d gotten a ticket recently. When he went for a bag in the back seat to show proof of the ticket, the situation escalated.
Below is the recording of the incident, which was taken by the couple’s son in the back seat:

Mahone’s son began to record the unfolding events on his cell phone right after the officers drew their weapons.
Mahone immediately phoned 911 and told a dispatcher that she was afraid of the cops’ aggressive behavior and that she wanted to get to the hospital before her mother passed away. Mahone recalled:
“I said, ‘Oh my god, he’s pulling me over like I robbed a bank.’” (source (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsW-QCxXkQA))

The officers explained they’d taken their guns out because they weren’t sure what Jones was going into the bag for. Jones said:
“That’s why I have my windows up. I’m not no harm to you right now. I got my kids in the car and you’re drawing your weapon.” (source (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsW-QCxXkQA))

The police refused to look at the ticket when Jones tried to hand it to them. When Jones asked if the officers had a supervisor, an officer answered:
“Look at my shoulder, dumbass. I’ve got bars.” (source (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsW-QCxXkQA))

While Jones spoke with the officers through the slightly opened window, Mahone can be heard saying to the dispatcher:
“Why do you say somebody’s not going to hurt you? People are getting shot by the police.” (source (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsW-QCxXkQA))

Out of nowhere, an officer outside Jones’ door broke through the passenger-side window with a baton. Then, he reached through the broken window and tased Jones. After the attack, the police yanked Jones out of the car and arrested him for resisting law enforcement. The couple’s daughter can be heard crying in the background.
This incident happened on September 25th. On Monday, Mahone and Jones filed a federal lawsuit against the Hammond police department. Dana Kurtz, the couple’s attorney, said:
“They had no probable cause, one, to even ask Jamal to get out of the car, or two, to engage in excessive force in tasering and arresting him.” (source (http://www.myfoxchicago.com/story/26719562/hammond-family-claims-police-overstepped-their-authority-in-traffic-stop))

In a statement, the police department defended its officers:
“In general, police officers who make legal traffic stops are allowed to ask passengers inside of a stopped vehicle for identification and to request that they exit a stopped vehicle for the officer’s safety without a requirement of reasonable suspicion.” (source (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/cops-smashed-window-tasered-passenger-traffic-stop-lawsuit-n219916))

One of the officers from the incident has actually been involved in two other excessive force lawsuits.

Here's an idea: When a cop ask you to get out of the car, you do it.

Yes. But that still doesn't mean the police weren't idiots.

And why do you really need to get someone out of a car because of someone not having a fricken seatbelt on.

If there isn't more to the back story that man will get paid nicely. That was fucked up.

Quite a few of them are indeed idiots.

They guy had ZERO ID and was asked repeatedly to get out of the car and refused. Then started fumbling around in a backpack behind him. Was a little more than simply not having a seatbelt on.

there was kids in the car. That alone makes the cops out to be retarded as fuck for drawing their guns and escalating things.

He wasn't driving. And he tried to give them something that had his name on it but they wouldn't take it.

It's not a requirement to carry an ID when you're not driving

I know there are some here that will disagree but If he would just have done what he was asked and not been argumentative then there would not have been a problem. They have no idea who the guy is or what he is capable of and Cops do have the right to come home to their Families as well.

I have been pulled over before because my truck fit the description that they were looking for and guess what, I complied calmly and I was respectful towards them and they were very respectful towards me. They Apologized stating why the had pulled me over and sent me on my way.

he wasn't argumentative. he explained to them he didn't have an ID on him due to recently getting ticketed and he provided proof but they wouldn't take it. he didn't break any laws and he is not required to show an ID unless he was being detained, he was not being detained.

his girlfriend said just give us a ticket so we can go. they were complying and the cops were just being assholes. i don't know why people try so hard to justify when cops are out of line. all that for driving with no seat belt? those kids could have gotten cut with glass all because of the cops negligience. now those kids will grow up not trusting and being afraid of cops from this experience.

fucc them cops.

Problem with that is the fucksticks that generally become cops don't seem to really care about those rights.

I always stuck up for cops my entire life. I was the first to say "don't do anything wrong and it won't be a problem". Shit like this video has happened far too often in my 35 years of existence though for me to continue to stick up for them.

Fuck those guys.

what the hell. seriously, there needs to be some better process in screening cops. no college? no intellect? no ethics? no problemo, you too can become a policeman and carry a gun and beating stick. You have to figure that someone that wants to have a low pay / high stress job might be taking the job for the wrong reasons.

Yeah, by the looks of this the cop will lose the lawsuit... what a dumbshit.

that being said if a cop asked me to get out of my car i probably would do so instead of arguing through the window. if it was improper procedure (which it was) and you are getting it on video anyway, you can always take action to the city after the fact.
