I think it was mostly done to shake up the team and also Richards himself. There was also a very slim chance he might get claimed, which would help the Kings in the cap hell they are because of Voynov situation. The Kings also get a little bit of cap room which could help at the trade deadline.

Good win against Chicago, finnaly some luck going the Kings way, hopefully they can continue this on the road and climb back into playoff spot.
