by Damir Jovanovic

In their first test match before the Eurobasket 2005 that was played on Thursday evening the players of Zeljko Obradovic (Željko Obradovi?) and the actual World Champion the selection of Serbia & Montenegro has won the duel against Croatia a team who would like to win a medal on the upcoming competition as well.

The match has been played in the Montenegrin capital Podgorica before 4,000 fans in a good and friendly as it can be atmosphere that was ruined by Croatian Dalibor Bagaric (Dalibor Bagari?) who made a technical foul over Nenad Krstic (Nenad Krsti?) by pushing the New Jersey center with what he made the crowd upset.

As for the game itself it was more or less equal but the Serbs were clearly a squad with more quality just they have just begun to warm up with test games so they lacked the good finishing while the defense worked very well considering that the Croatians lost 26 balls what is more than double than the actual World crown holder.

Detroit Pistons center Darko Milicic (Darko Mili?i?) also made a good appearance for the Blues although he seemed a bit uncertain what to do with the ball when he got it (his face was like wow I’m holding it) at first he quickly got into the game and made a superb block, couple of rebounds and scored three points. So there’s some hope for this talented lad who if given more time in his NBA club could make a nice career.

Still the power of the Serbs lies in the experience, Dejan Bodiroga scored some crucial points out of his 11 in the fourth quarter, while Dejan Milojevic (Dejan Milojevi?) the center of Partizan Beograd caught balls that Croatians couldn’t afford to lose.

The best pointer for the Serbs & Montenegrins was Nenad Krstic he succeeded to sign in 16 while Igor Rakocevic (Igor Rako?evi?) was second on his list wit 12 but the new Real Madrid signing delighted us with some attractive moves that shown his one of the most in-form Obradovic’s players.

As for the Croats, Gordan Giricek (Gordan Giri?ek) is without question their best player he signed in 20 pts while one of their most talented stars Roko Ukic (Roko Uki?) despite 9 pts had some disastrous errors (missing the basket two times from close range while being alone in the area), that questions how ready is he mentally for this big competition.

The first quarter finished 19:19, the second 23:23 in both the Croats had a solid lead but dropped it by the end while they finished the third with four points advantage 50:54 only to see the Serbs make a 8:0 start in the fourth and by the end win the match 74:71.

Darko finished against slovenia with 9 points, 7 boards, and 8 blocks. On offense he's always rushed, and his rebounding timing is pretty bad right now, but he's getting better. You can't expect him to have great timing and instincts after not playing for 2 years. I just wished they could have had the new NBDL stuff setup 2 years ago. He would be light-years ahead of where he is now as a player.

Serbia & Monte Negro has won the ProMont Supercup with 3 victories. The second place was for Croatia with 2 victories and 1 defeat, third was Lithuania with 1 victory and 2 defeats, and Slovenia was last with 3 defeats.

Nenad Krstic of the New Jersey Nets was named MVP of the preparation tournament for the Eurobasket 2005.

The results of the "blues" ware:

S&MN - Croatia 74:71 (19:19, 23:23, 12:16, 20:13)
S&MN - Slovenia 74:66 (19:14, 15:15, 19:18, 21:19)
S&MN - Lithuania 94:80 (16:18, 21:27, 22:20, 35:15)

Coach Obradovic used a complete rotation for the tournament to test all the players.

It is apparent to me that you fellas that say "Darko is going to be good" and "Darko is still young" havent had an opportunity to watch the guy. Ask people that see him at practice, talk to people that go to the games, or you yourself go to the games and observe him and how he carries himself. The kid is mentally wrecked here in Detroit. He cares more right now about going out clubbing and partying all the damn time, than he does about baskeball...Disagree if you want...I have been able to witness this first hand...

Add me to the list...Put me on top of the mother fucker.

The guys career averages will look like this:

9.8 ppg
6.3 reb
1.2 ass
1.6 blk
.8 st
46% fg
79% ft
25 min/game

They coulda had Wade OR Melo.

Could be one of the biggest mistakes in draft history if Wade and Melo continue to play the way they are playing. It may even get close to the Trailblazers decision to draft Bowie instead of Michael Jordan. :lol

Did I miss the message where Wade was now Jordan incarnate and no longer had the Shaq effect going for him?

Did I miss the message where Wade was now Jordan incarnate and no longer had the Shaq effect going for him?

Two questions:

1. Who said he was Jordan?

2. You dont think he is good just cuz he has Shaq? (2a. If thats the case, what do you say about Manu? Timmy effect???)

Darko is going to be great. It is too early to say he isn't going to be. Wade is older than Darko so of course he is supposed to be better.

Bad showing at Efes cup for Serbia & Monte Negro. It's an irelevant tournament and there is no intensity, but after that ugly 2004 Olympics, I wonder if the NT can win the Euro championship this year.

Let's hope Obradovic knows what he's doing...

What the fuck has Carmelo done other than pout like a baby when he gets pulled out of games.

Carmelo will be out of the NBA by 2008.

Darko Milicic and Serbia-Montenegro play France today September 20. Darko will undoubtedly try and build on his 6.0 ppg 5.0 rpg and 1.7 bpg performance that he has produced in this league.

Many Darko fans have openly stated that this will be the stage where Darko shows his ability to play at the NBA level.

So far those prognosticators have been very, very, very quiet.

I still think he's a year or 2 away from really showing much. But I do believe that this summer (finally being able to play in the Summer League, Playing for his national team, and knowing the LB will no longer be his coach) is huge in regards to his development...if for nothing more than the mental aspect. Confidence building is what he really needs right now.

Reality states the he will still not see many quality minutes with the likes of Ben,Sheed,Dyce and now Davis on the team. However, I do think that Flip will do a better job of building him up rather than tearing him down like LB did.

It sounds like he is really excelling at the defensive end right now. Hopefully that is something that can earn him minutes, and then his offense will slowly come together aswell.

I know many people have completley written off any chance of Darko being a legit Star in the L , let alone just a decent player.

There are also going to be tons of people that truly believe that just because he gets some blocks, rebounds, and hits his J in Euro that he should now be ready to compete in the NBA.

The answer is probably somewhere inbetween.

Twenty years from now, Darko will be remembered as the Serbian answer to Wilt or Shaq. Mark my words! :drunk :smokin

Honestly, I believe that the whole Pistons bench will be very motivated for this season since Larry Brown is gone. Maybe the team isn't lucky enough to get to the Finals again (possible main reason= Flip), but the bench players surely will be happier. I don't know how Darko will turn out, but he will get more chances this season, and he should keep improving his game (keep in mind that he's still very young).
