I heard Whi has a sprained vag because The Spurs want to give him a max contract next year instead of a max extension this year. Knee problems, broken hand, eyebola, and now a recurring vaginal strain. Durability may be an issue.

Good sign. If he's at practice and around the guys, the infection must be gone or, at least, to the point it won't spread.

This. From the sound of things, he's been working out and playing basketball the whole time...just not with the team since they didn't want to risk the infection spreading to other players. If he's back with the team now, I'm assuming that means the fear of him being contagious is no longer there and thus he should (hopefully) be ready to go tomorrow night.

According to twitter, Kawhi started working out on the court only after the rest of the team was done practicing and went back to the locker room. So it looks like they are still keeping him isolated. I don't think he plays tomorrow.

Well, Chip can coach him without touching or rubbing up against him and all sorts of personal shit we don't like to think of when we play basketball. At that point, you just have to worry about fomites (mainly the ball), and your hands, mostly. A little 91% isopropyl alcohol will help quite a bit, and soap and water, of course.

Trivially, 70% may work better than 91, but 50% doesn't really work very good at all. So, a lot of water bad, no water bad. Goldilocks. Has to be just right, supposedly, for optimal. But, not a lot of difference between 70 and 91. Phenol is used in labs, but they don't sell that by name at Walmart. But, then you think...what about after he dribbled the ball on the floor...then Chip had his shoelace come untied...after he walked all over it...and then after he disinfected his hands...he reaches down to tie his shoe...and then you have to start all over again...but you don't...you just hope that ID50 is very high...and what little was transmitted to the ball, to the floor, to the shoe-lace, to Chip's hand, isn't enough. Or, if Kawhi just got back from Liberia, LD50. Best to just not worry about it, and assume beer kills it all, even though it doesn't.

Doesn't sound good for Tiago: http://www.poundingtherock.com/2014/10/28/7086771/gregg-popovich-reflects-on-the-past-sounding-ominous-about-the-present

Q: What about Tiago's status?

Pop: No he's just out until they tell us he's okay to play but... they keep talking about his back instead of his calf so I'm just a coach, I'm confused. When they tell me he can play, then he'll start playing. And Patty (Mills) is out because of the shoulder. I don't know when that is. Probably when I'm retired.

...

The injury updates on Leonard and Splitter corraborates my observations and the information I've gathered from a couple of people. I fully expect Leonard to play the third game next Wednesday if not the second one Friday night at Phoenix. In Splitter's case it sure seemed odd for a simple calf strain to keep him over a month and now we know it's not a simple calf strain. Pop mentioned a back issue and things I've heard are even more ominous than that. All I saw him do this morning was jog slowly and stiffly on a treadmill, so it may indeed be quite a while before we see Splitter on the court.

I guess Splitter shoots some in practice or during warm ups, but that does not mean he will ever take a three pointer unless the shot clock makes it necessary. How many 2 point jump shots did he try last season? 5-10 or something? I like Smitty, but he reached a little bit there ...

That's terrible news about splitter. Hell, I really don't like that there's a mystery about it, that's not reassuring. No title contention if splitter isn't around, hopefully it's not serious.

Baynes will be proving his worth now. He's only about 10% player splitter is, but better him than Ayres.

Robz4000
10-29-2014, 03:59 PM
Agreed, a back injury and a mystery one at that is pretty ominous. Not sure about keeping the Spurs from contending tho; as has been observed Leonard plays better with Splitter off the floor. If Baynes can be effective off the bench and Diaw 2.0 does his thing in the SL they may be ok.

Ice009
10-29-2014, 06:26 PM
I apologize to Splitter if it's a back injury. I was harsh on him yesterday, saying he's soft for taking so long off with a calf strain.

I hope he is OK and it's nothing serious. We really need him out there.

I'm disappointed in the shape Boris Diaw looks to be in. He looks like he's put on more weight since playing for France.

I don't remember the calf injury, but I do remember Brent being ones of the Spurs' best players in the series against LA, so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Manu had the ankle/foot injury in that series and only averaged something like 10 ppg (he was clearly hobbled by it) and I thought Brent played as hard as he could that series. If he played with that kind of fire and passion throughout his time here, then Pop might not have tried to trade him numerous times.

I don't remember the whole thing perfectly and you may be far better than I am regarding the specifics, but I have seared into my brain the picture of one of those black calf sleeves on Barry's leg in the game in which he came back after several weeks off due to a calf injury. He had not been on the floor more than about five minutes when he kind of stopped moving and his leg with the sleeve on it came up lame. He just kind of stood there on one leg while the offensive set went on without him. He left the court right after that and they were saying that his calf went out on him again. I don't remember him coming back after that, but as I said, your memory may be far better than mine.
