far as I can tell. I for one am glad that we aren't making any major changes. Why mess with the team that won the championship? We got Horry back, added Oberto, and have the upper hand with Devin. Who are we at risk of losing? LJ3, Wilks, T-Mass, Big Dog....none of them had a huge impact on our title run. I say we add NVE and maybe Finley, and we are in great shape to repeat. Barnes and Devin are just icing.

pretty much but it is finley or devin
back up point guard is more nebulous than NVE i think. because the spurs seem to take care of the wings first and then will see how much is left for back up PG

glenn and wallace are not in this list i think.

it is a great thing that the core is coming back. but it would also be great to have fresh blood. if you bring devin back it means 10 players will be back and i am not sure it is so great for the motivation...it will be another discussion for when we will know the final team

Well, it's the backup backup PG spot, though if the Spurs landed NVE he'd be something more.

And DBrown is a 2 and 3.

And DBrown is a 2 and 3.

True. He belongs in the category with Finley. Because I think it's either Devin OR Finley. And then they'll also sign a small forward and a third PG to make 13 players.

don't you need 14 players under the new cba? or did it go from 12-13? or was that just a possible change?

are we confident in horry getting all the backup minutes at pf? I am not sold that Oberto will be able to play there and I don't trust the health of big men.

Yeah, the owners agreed to having an 'average' of 14 players per roster. Not sure how that will be enforced.

I guess what I meant to ask was if we were picking 2-3 players from this list.

Do any of the Summer League players have a chance now???

Britton Johnsen and Melvin Sanders (Spurs standouts at RMR) took contracts in Europe.

I think there maybe several other options at PG .. from vets to projects.

Horry For 3!

I guess that happened while I was on vacation....

Sanders signed with an european team?, damn.

Also, DerMarr Johnson should be added to the list.

what about Andre Barrett? Wasn't he on our summer league team? If I'm not mistaken, he was 2nd in assists in the summer league, wasn't he?

I would guess that Barrett is on hold pending Nick's decision.

Kori Ellis
08-27-2005, 02:21 PM
Isn't Barrett like 5'8?

I think they have some other options for a 3rd string PG ahead of him. They might be looking at Scales - who's a combo guard - or maybe one of the other guys that they've brought into workouts in the last couple weeks.

he's 5'10"....but other than that and the fact that he did fairly well in summer league, i don't know much about him.

ChumpDumper

True enough, but we had a short guy last year too. One of the prerequisites for young 3rd stringers has been an ability to keep up with Parker in practice -- whether this is secondary to size I couldn't tell you -- Hart had good size but was a last minute choice.

I agree there are probably several candidates after NVE, and I don't know whom they would prefer.

I don't know much about him either. I just knew he looked short :) He actually measured 5'8.75 at pre-draft camp. I haven't heard anything about his since summer league, so that probably means he's still in consideration.

If the Spurs don't get Finley, I'd offer the rest of the MLE to Watson, sign Matt Barnes for $1M and call it a summer.

If Devin will re-sign for a reasonable amount, they can still sign Devin in my Watson/Barnes scenario. However if Finley comes, look like Devin is gone.

do you think Devin's gonna get more than 1 mil from another team?

Probably depends on how desperate Denver gets. I'm not sure who else is looking at him besides Denver and Utah. His agent says six teams (or more) but that's probably agent-speak.

if we need another pg we can also go with a younger pg like John Gilchrist to develop as a project.

I cannot imagine how solid the Spurs would be with FInely and how wierd it would be to play the Mavs
Didn't Cuban ask Finley not to go to any Texas teams... or Western Conference contenders or something like that?

Big Pimp_21

I'm sure its not 6. I think he should take a 1 year, 1 million dollar deal to stay in SA and earn a bigger contract than that. He has to understand that he's a liability with his back. How does anyone know that he would be worth big money yet?
