He played well because he was getting virtually no defensive attention. They were far more focused on Tim, Tony, Manu, and even Diaw. He pretty much just got a bunch of cleanup buckets and wide open jumpers from the attention those other guys were getting. I still have yet to see him consistently prove to be an offensive force when actually given a moderate level of defensive attention.

Manu is still more important and in some ways could have arguably been the true finals MVP, as it seemed every time he came into games, he would knock in a couple 3s, create open shots for everyone and the Spurs would immediately go on a 14-2 run or something like that. Manu was on a mission this past year and didn't get nearly enough credit IMO.

Half joking. Half serious. Spurfans and others severely overrate the guy with all this "superstar" and "franchise player" talk. Dude is a fantastic 3rd option, does a lot of different things on the court and does them well, and could perhaps even be a solid 2nd option if given the right supporting cast and a megastar like Lebron or Durant. But seriously expecting anything more than that is just homerism. He still isn't a strong ball handler, doesn't have anything more than an average post game, a good wide-open shooter but not very good at all when contested (slow set-up, slow release, not very smooth in general), and not particularly adept at creating high quality shots for himself against good defense. He's good, but has more weaknesses than some here want to admit.

I was at the game in the lower level.The nice thing about going to the games is you can watch
the players the TV cameras don't follow. I watched Dirk a lot because he was the only Mav I liked
over the years. It's now a shame that Dirk's knees are just about gone now. His floor movement is just so
bad now with poor lateral movement. Two times tonight he fell on his own moving side to side. He can't
seem to guard anyone and our guys were blowing around him. He looks o.k. in straight lines but it's the side to
side movement. He did make a stop or two because a 7ft + can fill up space. You can say it's the first
game of the year but this is the same as the playoffs last year. Dirk can still shoot but now he throws
elbows and grabs players then whines about everything now. Mav fan should enjoy the time left with
Dirk because he wont be around much longer.
