:lmao

All these Idiots spursfans not knowing the difference between max extension and max contract.

Ginobili, Parker squeezed in as much money as the can from the spurs and they took the less risky max extension....

Timmy was paid max for 15 years...

Manu did so much for us :cry

When I first found out, he won't extend now, I immediately moved him for Wiggins in 2K15, TBH.

How would Manu know he was going to suck during playoffs when he was earning 14 mill? Please.. Manu didn't earn 14mill until his 32 years or so, Kawhi wants that when he's 23 years old and he didn't even average more than 13 points per game in 3 seasons..

Young padawan isn't on the "here's the checkbook, write your own check" stage yet, like the big 3... probably next summer if everything goes according to plan...

Patience grasshopper...

KL is not Tim Duncan and frankly he is not a franchise player.. This guy is a Pippen not a Jordan. He will be a force on a team with a lot of other pieces.. He is not the guy you build around to win chips. I don't want to see him go but titles won't be going out the door with him..

I always love when people try to discredit Kawhi by comparing him to legends as a reason why he doesn't deserve max. The reality is the market sets his price tag and his price tag will be the max.

Another team will offer Lenard the max and the Spurs will match. He will still be a spur after this season.

You don't have to be a slave to the market. If you think the max is too much for X player let him walk and have someone else give it to him.. To me a max deal is for a franchise level player. The book is very much out on KL in that regard..

They will let him walk. He will flounder. Forever more he will regret leaving the Spurs.

Well you aren't an NBA GM or owner so it really doesn't matter what you or any of us think is worth a max deal. The reality is he will be making the max next season (unless he has an awful season or gets hurt) the only question is who will be paying him.

If he was a FA last off-season he would already be a max player. Klay Thompson just got paid the max, the market has been set, Kawhi will be getting the max. Might as well get your head around it now.

And the Spurs do not have to be the team that pays him that Max deal. Five years from now we may be sitting here saying thank God we didn't give it to him.

Not so fast skippy as it all depends on how he does this season. Better get YOUR head wrapped around THAT now.

Maybe, maybe not. Comparing him to Duncan, Robinson, Pippen or Jordan mean nothing. The market is set for him, the Spurs will either pay or someone else win.

Whatever makes you feel better, the yahoo article has cited several GMs saying he's worth the max already and he's a better player than Klay Thompson who just signed for a 4 year max deal. The market is set you can ignore it if you want. Only way he doesn't get max is if he suffers an awful injury or plays poorly this season. You may not think he's worth it but your opinion doesn't matter to other GMs and team owners.

No one knows the details surrounding the Kawhi negotiations. It's all just generic internet rumors. I wouldn't be surprised if the Spurs asked him to wait so that they could maximize flexibility to surround him with other free agents next summer after Duncan and Manu possibly retire.

It is all talk until the check gets signed.

Gamesmanship plays a role here.

If Leonard flops this season he can forget a max contract from anyone.

One max worthy series?
He had an outstanding series against Portland...
He defended Durant and Westbrook so well, he carried the team for three quarters in game 6 WCF, sure he missed a lot of bunnies in the fourth quarter but his strip/steal on Russ closed the series...
A 22 years old guy who played great on both ends in two consecutive NBA finals...
