At the most he should be getting 10-11 million per season based on last year's production. Before last season he was a 6-7 mill player.

Harden at 16 mil a year seems good.

Wow, this is a HUGE overpay but it's already been adjusted for the next CBA which is approximately at 35% more than the current deal.

Not helping the market for Kawhi tbh.

Doesn't matter in the end. The Kawhi deal will be a max deal and he's worth every penny. We should worry more about how this drives the Green market.

We should be giddy each time a foe inks a deal like this.

How the hell did they not move him for Love? I'd much rather pay Kevin Love $20 million a year than one dimensional Klay Thompson $17.5 million a year.

Well, Alec Burks just got 10 mil per year, so the NBA world is in a mess right now:lol..

This. Leonard is a max player unless he has a career threatening injury. Green though, fuck if Thompson pulls this kind of money I could see teams throwing $13-$14 million a season at Green, which I never see the Spurs paying.

Plus could have moved Lee in the trade and brought in an a few role guys with him. They signed Livingston anyway and had Iggy, so why hold onto Thompson at all costs?

I think it was actually Minnesota that balked on that offer instead as they may not have wanted Klay at this salary

I like Klay Thompson, but that contract is ridiculous. All these stupid contracts by inept GM's are screwing the rest of the teams in the league over with their contract negotiations.

He can't take dribble/do anything inside of the arc well enough for that to happen.

Only things that might mitigate things imo is Green's comparative lack of playing time (35mpg vs 25mpg last year) and lower scoring average (18.4 vs 9.1 ppg) compared to Thompson. Surprising how many people still see 18ppg and = $$$.

Once they give Kiwi the MAX deal :lmao I look forward to seeing the team implode...Giving him a max deal likely means they're giving the retard more money than they've ever paid Tony Parker and Manu over their careers...giving him a Max deal means they completely fucked Tony Parker....(hey Tony if you reading this shit it's time time purposely Tank bro) Pop clowning you dawg and never had respect for you and Manu bailing Tammy's ass out all these years....it's a dam shame tbh...I hope they do it and I hope it foments resentment amongst the other players whom they consistently low-balled....

I think Green could get an offer of 10M max, wonder what the FO would do then tho...

Do they pay Green? I'd do it.
Then they'd have limited money for a big...

Imo they need to trade Beli now, and Mills during the draft to make as much room as possible...

Leonard's max would be considerably less than Kobe's current deal while being an infinitely better player

enrique so great he puts up nice stats, while his opponent puts up the same numbers cause he cant defend anyone even when switchin him onto the shittest player on the court, that shit player will take a shit on him

Pretty crazy tbh. But can't blame klay I would go for the big bucks too :lol those other 3 are a much better bargain at 11 a year or so, he's being paid of potential it seems.

10-31-2014, 09:04 PM
Meh I don't get why people still act shocked. The NBA market has been like this for a while--the market dictates these guys value not posters.

JJ, Gay, Deron, Gordon, Hibbert, Parsons, Hayward, Irving, Bledsoe, etc. That's what an all-star or fringe all-star is worth these days, there's only so many Lebrons and KDs to go around so the teams without them are naturally going to throw the money at someone else tbh.

still doesnt make a difference whether ur earning big bucks while team is shit, team is going nowhere

then u could be a player on a contender, earning less but still come up short, in the end thats not a championship so its another wasted year

so whats the difference anyway if its the same outcome? not winning

I don't think the Spurs will pay the TAX to keep anyone, Spurs owner would even sell his wife to avoid the TAX tbh.

someone said payin clay 17m in gsw is equivalent to a player whose on 15m in texas with no state income tax + costs of living/standard of living

that to me is a load of bullshit unless u have a no trade clause in ur contract, cause not everything is certain a player will remain at the same team during the length of their contract

seems like the spurs will be controlling kawhis minutes this season to lower his value.....roflmao, same old shitty tactics they keep on using for players breaking out or contract year....kawhi should demand a trade...

Klay had 41 tonight to celebrate his birthday and contract extension, but...

1. It's against the Lakers.

2. 4 years for $70 million is still overpaying for a second option.

3. Dude, it's against the Lakers.

benstanfield
11-02-2014, 09:18 AM
Meh. 2nd option on a contender I with average D... He's a flawed player but so is Kawhi. It's a weird position to be in for GSW cause they could probably salvage something decent at the 2 spot if they let him walk, but they already turned down a bunch of trades involving Thompson and if they ended up getting stuck with a Wayne Ellington at SG that team would suck. The difference between GSW with Thompson and GSW with Danny Green is probably worth 10m tbh, even if it goes to an overvalued player.

This also means they will almost certainly have to trade David Lee before next season.

Would you give Steph the max? One of the reasons he went so cheap is because of his injury chances. But that's a steal. :lol

They aren't getting screwed. Getting screwed is being unhappy. These guys dealt with the reality of the situation and are having much more fun than Kobe while building their legacies and other opportunities vs getting ripped to shreds on the court and by the media tbh..
