If i was his agent, I would tell him to request a trade after contract..no point playing 28mpg a game when I'm in my early 20's.

He did have the best +/- on the team and they could have used that rebounding.

A lot of Paul-Kawhi lobs!
Just imagine the crucial Kawhi steal on Wes playing for the Clips, they would have won the series.

Why exactly is that? He's been labeled the future face of the franchise by Pop, he just won a championship, he's a no-frills star in a no-frills town, he WILL get paid whatever he wants to stay....
Except for failing to come to terms on an extension agreement, which was not required and likely not the most beneficial deal for either side, I see no reason why the perception should be anything other than Kawhi coming back is a slam dunk.
And the minutes...all that really affects is career stats, which I don't see Kawhi particularly interested in.

Like i said in another thread, Kawhi hasn't played much all summer. How much do you expect Pop to play him in his first game back? He has to ease him in. It's not as if Kawhi looked great all game and made it a tough decision. His shots were short, he needs to get his conditioning back up. It's his first competitive game in several months. His minutes will go up

KL's offense looked terrible most of the night, especially on that turn around fade away, he had no hang time and just threw up a brick. Look, he's been blinded for what, a month, he needs work, and sitting him at the end of a close game was the right thing to do.

He was more than terrible. His only offensive weapon right now is the post-up? Are you kidding me? Who the fuck are you? Late carreer MJ or KB? What the fuck?
No athleticism, no speed, no lateral quickness, seemed fully uninterested...

Moron. If you're playing for a championship every year, and playing a significant role in your team's championship ambitions, why the fuck would a player care about playing an extra 5-10 minutes a game?

That's exactly how that turnaround jumper looked in the first preseason game against Alba Berlin. It seems like he was taught to shoot it flat. Maybe he doesn't have the hang-time to shoot that jumper properly? It seems like a move Jordan used to use, but did Jordan ever shoot it that flat?

Yeah...Why the fuck...but what's about the rare concept (commonly used by most of coaches in the world) that more playing time helps young players to improve their games.
Yeah...Why the fuck Leonard wants more minutes to develop?
“In the Finals I’m playing 35 minutes a game, so I’m on the floor more and able to score the ball more and get more rebounds,” he said. “So I’m going to have to get consistent minutes to play at a consistent level like that. I’ve been trying to (be a dominant player) since I’ve been here.
“It’s just in order to get me more involved in the offense, that’s what I go by. Like I said, if I’m going to get seven more minutes on the floor, that’s going to be important....”

All max young SF guys in the league played more than 36 minutes last seson, why Leonard should play 28?
Only George averaged 21 ppg as first offensive option, why Leonard should score the same in 8 less minutes as 3rd option?
PG 36mpg/21ppg
Thompson 35.4 mpg/18ppg
Parsons 37.6/16.6ppg
Hayward 36,4mpg/16,2ppg
Batum 36mpg/13ppg

Yes, the lowest leading scorer on any championship team in the Finals history.

I decided to check ESPN which goes back to the 99-00 season and now once has a player averaged 20 ppg with under 30 mins per game.
Duncan in his prime averaged close to 40 minutes per game and only scored in the low 20s (to put that in perspective if Kawhi's stats last season were projected for 40 mins he'd be a 17.6 PPG/ 8.5 rpg and Kawhi wasn't a top 2 option like Duncan, nor did he have plays ran for him)
Parker has only averaged more 20+ ppg twice in his entire career.
Manu has never done it.
So yea.

The old had to the the Pistons of 04 I believe? That was a balanced team as well and nobody got 20ppg on that team. That is an amazing stat for the Spurs, shows you their flat out balance! That is good.

Actually rip hamilton would average close or about 20 per game on those squads
I question Kawhi not playing big minutes. Could hurt his morale and ego a little bit. Still way too early in the season to tell, he didnt have a training camp after all.

When asked a question about his expectations for continuing his high level of play in the finals into this season, he responded with the comment you posted. He pointed out the minute discrepancy, gave the obvious answer, that with more minutes his numbers went up, not that he did anything different in the finals than he's been doing ("trying to" do) since he got here. For you to read into his comment a dissatisfaction with his role here, that might push him to want to leave SA, is like Homer Simpson trying to ride a bicycle over the Grand Canyon. It's only good for a laugh.

I just wish he'd play at least 32ish minutes per game. I'm not asking for Pop to go into Thibodeau-mode and play Kawhi every night for 40 mpg, but c'mon...someone like Kawhi should be playing at LEAST 30 mpg.
I'm hoping Pop is just easing him in since he missed a lot of preseason + the first game. I'll be a bit annoyed if we have another year of Kawhi playing 28 or 29 mpg.

The regular season is time to experiment, Pop makes a lot of lineups and rotation changes to find what works.
What's the big deal if he tries to play Leonard 35 minutes for at least 15 games?
If he doesn't improve or increase his numbers, we don't lose nothing and it'll be another regular season experiment. But we never know that if he never plays more minutes.
There is a reason, we won the championship, TBH.
Agree but I think they won the finals with Leonard playing 35 minutes.
For you to read into his comment a dissatisfaction with his role here, that might push him to want to leave SA, is like Homer Simpson trying to ride a bicycle over the Grand Canyon. It's only good for a laugh.
I lost. You asked "why the fuck would a player care about playing an extra 5-10 minutes a game?" and your question was answered quoting Leonard, he needs those extra minutes to play at more consistent level, improve his game and increase numbers.
Now I don't know what are you talking about...I'm not reading between the lines, I was talking about why young players want more playing time. That was all.

We all expect the Spurs to blow out a lot of opponents. In these games Kawhi hopefully won't play 30+ minutes, which will lead to a drop in his mpg number.
Pop will play him big minutes in big games or when it's needed in close games. That's all that matters.
