Congressional Seats Sell for Record Four Billion Dollars
Congressional seats are on pace to fetch a whopping four billion dollars on Tuesday night, a record-smashing sales figure that has exceeded the expectations of even the most optimistic insiders.
The seats, which include four hundred and thirty-five in the House of Representatives and thirty-six in the Senate, have attracted buyers from a broad spectrum of industries, including investment banking, energy, pharmaceutical, and gun.
“With all of the uncertainty in the world today, the United States Congress is considered a very safe place for the rich to invest their money,” said Charles Michollot, of the auction house Sotheby’s.
“Congressional seats are like Manhattan real estate—they aren’t making any more of them.”
But Anton Pickardin, of the rival auction house Christie’s, sounds more skeptical. “I hate to be a wet blanket, but these sales figures lack rhyme and reason,” Pickardin said.
“When someone is willing to pay millions of dollars for a pre-owned Mitch McConnell, you know that people have lost their minds.”
But Sotheby’s Michollot remains confident that, even at these hefty prices, congressional seats are a wise investment. “When these seats go up for sale again, in 2016, four billion dollars is going to look like a bargain,” he said.

What kind o legislation can they get through the senate without a filibuster proof majority (i.e. Through reconciliation)?

Heard a great idea, that mid terms should be abolished, all elections only every 4 years. mid terms are a horrible distraction, time wasting, but of course, the Repugs don't GAF, they don't want to govern anyway, haven't since criminal Nixon. Non-stop grovelling for corrupt $Ms, non-stop campaigning is obviously a lot more fun and exciting the governing.
The Pres campaign and starts tomorrow morning. Repugs will have the usual collection of clowns, jerks, assholes

reconciliation only applies to budgetary stuff, I think. Repugs in 2001 pushed through their tax cuts for the wealthy (themselves) in 2001 only through reconciliation.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconciliation_(United_States_Congress)
I don't think Repugs can push through slavery for the blacks with reconciliation, nor replace the Constitution with the Bible and 10 Commandments, but the Christian Taliban theocrats will try.

It probably won't happen by 2020, but I actually do see it happening down the line. It'd be a mistake to draw the conclusion from this midterm election that Texas can never swing in the other direction. Demographic shifts take time to percolate.

The atrocities committed against the Armenian people of the Ottoman Empire during WWI are defined as the Armenian Genocide. Those massacres were perpetrated throughout different regions of the Ottoman Empire by the Young Turkish Government which was in power at the time

Texas could still turn blue once Hussein rolls up the Constitution to snort a rail and signs amnesty. that would be the most likely way instead of trying to win Texans over with liberal beliefs.

yeah, but he shouldn't have been re-elected other than for the fact the GOP can't pick candidates, tbh...

yeah its a common theme, the longer a prez is in office, the lower his approval tends to go (and his party in congress suffers). same reason why Dems won a lot of seats in 06. but today's been more of a bloodbath than i figured... crimson tide, red dawn, etc. etc...

I thought they had it in their pocket, but somehow picked Romney + Ryan, a terrible duo... after a strong showing in 2010, they wasted it away...

I think it's the combo of Dems not really getting out to vote for midterms (another common theme), and the ultra conservatives holding their noses and voting GOP (they didn't get all that in 2012)...
anyways, I don't expect much of anything to change

i think the biggest shock how minorities and women were represented in the election results.
the only black senator elected was Tim Scott (R), the only female senator (non-incumbent) elected was Joni Erst (R), and all 3 of the non-white governors elected were also on the Republican ticket Nicki Haley - SC, Suzana Martinez, and Brian Sandoval

the historical pattern held, the only surprise was that Republicans outperformed polling projections, or, to put it the other way around, that the projections were as far off as they were.

actually, it was Bush who contested the electoral process in Florida in 2000. you can tell by the way the suit was styled: Bush v Gore.
Winehole23

might Gore and Kerry have conceded in a race too close to call? perhaps. we wouldn't have had a presidential election decided by the Supreme Court.
