I fully understand this extension, but that`s way too much money for mediocre QB

It's a one year guarantee.

He's 15-6 with Arizona, 12-2 after a 3-4 start.

In that 12-2 stretch he averages well over 2 TDs a game and he's really kept his INTs down.

It's a gamble, but it's not like Arizona didn't revive another old QBs career all the way to a Super Bowl appearance recently.

not a bad deal at 20.5mil guaranteed through 2015 and then after that if his shoulder goes bum they can ditch him.

Being the Cards are where they are with a legit shot at a SB, this move makes perfect sense.

Had defensive health not abandoned them for this season it would make more, but at one year guaranteed, it gives them that chance again next year, after one more draft to add depth up front and at linebacker.

This looks like a terrible deal. I hope for the Cardinals fans I'm wrong, because they deserve a good QB.

Why is a one-year guaranteed deal terrible, when it's for a QB who's averaging almost 300 yards per game, better than 2 TDs per game to only about half an INT per game in recent 12-2 stretch, and 15-6 overall in tenure.

If he sucks or gets injured, his option is declined and Cardinals are clear of his entire CAP hit, which they will fit into just next season.

If you look past name, see his stats and record, it's a good deal.

I agree with most of what you're saying but I've seen Palmer do this before so his track record doesn't speak kindly. 20.5 is still too high imo but if he leads your team to the Superbowl then it's a great deal. Like you said, it's a gamble but I don't like the odds.

What's Arizona's option? This gives them the ability to be competitive while developing either Thomas or another QB for another year or two.

JMarkJohns

Besides, Palmer has never had the structure or offensive coaching like he's had in Arizona.

Arians knows how to work with QBs: Manning, Roethlisberger, Luck... Now Palmer.

Damn that's fucked up. Hopefully it's just a severe sprain or something. To have such a phenomenal start to the year and potentially lose your starting QB for the year is the worst luck.

Stanton has finished games as the winning QB three times this season, two starts, one injury replacement. He led 4th-Quarter comebacks in all three.

He's a legit QB.

It's gonna sting, but this team rallies like no other I've ever seen.

Play who ya got

Per Cardinals, tests are later this morning. So any tweets right now are premature.

Likely not good, but until tests, I reserve hope he's back in 4-6 weeks.

Calais Campbell had similar and he ended up with a sprain in back 2 weeks later.

Clean tear of right ACL. Season-ending IR.

Stanton has won 3 games and hung tough in only loss before his own injury.

Is he more mobile than Palmer?

Is he more mobile than Palmer?

He certainly seemed more spry in the pocket from what I've seen. Climbs the pocket pretty quickly.

We will trade you Kirk Cousins for Patrick Peterson

JMarkJohns
11-10-2014, 03:57 PM
Stanton is far more mobile, to the point Arians joked Stanton will be getting extra reps at sliding. Definitely not stationary. Not the arm of Palmer, but above average, and while his completion percentage is low, he avoids sacks by throwing it away at higher rate after getting outside the pocket. He's not a running QB, but will step up or swing out to buy time.

Like I said, went in to Denver and was within one score at time of his own injury in late 3rd and has orchestrated three 4th-quarter comebacks.

He's not an upgrade in the least, but he's a good QB with 20+ games in this system and additional years with Arians.

Palmer is obviously better and is having a good season, but this injury's impact on the Cardinals is a little overhyped IMO..

He's not Rodgers or Luck, in regards to his value to their team:lol..

I'm sure Stanton will be fine..I haven't watched him much, but I was impressed that he wasn't afraid to throw a risky bomb to John Brown for the lead, rather than checking down on every play like most backup QBs tend to do..

Agreed. It hurts, but it's not an excuse. Stanton has won and made big time throws this season. He's a leader. It'll hurt because he's never faced the NFC West on the road and Cardinals still have all three of their road games vs the division.

But he already has come in and defeated St.Louis (which Palmer hasn't done as a Cardinal), and San Francisco (which Palmer hasn't done as a Cardinal), so there optimism.

Need to rush the ball with more efficiency.

Beginning of games is important. Can't keep falling behind.

Other than that, Cardinals still own the best record in the NFL and Stanton is a big reason why, so I believe the team will rally. Plenty of injury replacements have even gone so far as to win the Super Bowl. It's doable.

There's still hope with Stanton. BA personally picked him up as his qb.

The Gemini Method

At some point, the injury is going to cost the Cards. As well as Stanton has performed, it is really about the overall injuries that'll doom them. It would be a great run though if he were to win it all in the home stadium--which would be the first time done.

JMarkJohns
11-11-2014, 06:52 PM
Too much NFC West attrition this year, it seems.

Still, I think 12-4 is doable for Cardinals. If so, that's at least home field for wildcard, and might be enough to win division and net home field until NFC title game, and if they beat Detroit, Cardinals will own tie-breaker vs. Lions, Eagles, Cowboys, so there's a chance at 12-4 they could earn home field through playoffs.

That's my mark.

Vs Lions
At Seahawks
At Falcons
Vs Chiefs
At Rams
Vs Seahawks
At 49ers

3-4 is likeliest, 4-3 possible.

If they go 2-4 I think they get Wildcard at 10-6, and if they go 5-2 they net homefield for as long as they last.

The Gemini Method
11-11-2014, 07:01 PM
I think we split with you guys. We'll probably split with the hated 49ers...I'm not sure how we'll fare against the Chiefs and Eagles. I think we squeak one out against KC and take a close one with the Eagles. Then a revenge home game against the Rams. 5-2 is conceivable and so is 2-4 for this team. So banged up and in one of the tougher division. I know the D has been improving over the last 3 years (No.3 in YPG; No. 3 against the run) but it'll be interesting to see how it does without Mebane anchoring the line. We have the toughest remaining games based on W-L. We started with like the 2nd hardest schedule (complete) behind the hapless Raiders. I know 6-3 may seem like a struggle, there is only one game that we should feel about losing and that were to the Rams but even they've played with heart this year. So this Sunday is a huge game. I think we need this game, too. Splitting with the 49ers and Cards would be less painful if we take care of business against the other teams we face.

JMarkJohns

Arizona has to split with Seattle. Has to. They don't, they lose the division.
