View Full Version : Heat: Was walking away from Miami a mistake?

Thebesteva

At the moment, Cleveland is 18th place in the NBA, meanwhile, the Heat look like a more stable roster with better coaching and are 9th place without Lebron. I believe it's after this year (or next) that Wade's contract is up and Miami could have brought in another superstar for Bron+Bosh+someone else. People seriously underrate what Bosh did for Bron both on the defensive and offensive end. Also, Miami has Pat Riley, a winner and Spo who is a much better coach than Blatt.

I know its early, and I'm sure they'll at least cruise to the ECF. But this team doesnt look built to win 2-3 in a row.

Did Bron press the panic button too soon?

Normally I would agree with this. Obviously its VERY early and in fact, we wont know if this was the right decision until 3 years from now. However, walking away from Riley who is a winner, Bosh who is still in his prime, and a franchise that knows what its doing for Gilbert and the curse that is cleveland was a huge risk.

Not to mention, Lebron is in his 12th season and he still doesnt have a freaking home. What will he be remembered as?

I think it was a bad decision tbh. But I could be wrong

spurraider21

Miami wasn't going to get any better.

not that cleveland is currently a better spot than Miami, but he got to save face and repair his image while leaving what he felt was a sinking ship. with how young cleveland is and how new this core is, there isn't going to be the pressure to win right away. although if Love bolts it could be hilarious to see what ensues with lebron's option

It was a bad move. Then again, it's the East... You have the Pacers who are discombobulated, Chicago which is a gimmick team, and lastly the Heat, which is only as good as Wade's knees go. The rest is really not even worth mentioning.

I could have bet money that Bosh was going to have MVP type season. Wade is a as good as his knees, so probably not all season long. Spo is still good coach, Deng is decent pick up. Heat are not a contender anymore, but they can be in East Final.

If you can't sustain it when it matters, it's a gimmick. What we know about Chicago is that they'll post a solid regular season record, they'll be some buzz about if this is the year they'll make some noise, and then they'll fold like a cheap chair in the 2nd round.
That's the Bulls we know and love. There's zero indication it will be any different this season, so we'll go with that until proven otherwise.

Love is an upgrade over Bosh and Irving is an upgrade over Wade (at this point in his career). Plus, there was no way Miami was winning another title anyway. With Cleveland, LeBron still might.

How is Love a clear upgrade over Bosh? With the way Bosh has been playing right now, proving he can still be a great scorer, 3 pt shooter, and besides Bosh's defense is automatically better than Love. Irving, is probably the reason why the Cavs won't win the 'ship, he will heroball this season away together with his and the Cavs' non-existent defense( :lol Marion). There's no way Cleveland's beating the Spurs either.

Not only that, Bosh has proven that he's a winner, a guy that you could give the ball to in the clutch meanwhile Love is nothing but a regular season statpadder yet. Not hating on Love at all but no one can just say he's a clear cut upgrade as a complement over Bosh to Bron.

I agree that the Cavs aren't beating the Spurs. But playing LeBron is going to take a toll on your production since you're going to have to take a backseat to him. Case in point: Love is sucking right now, but his stats in Cleveland are still better than those of Bosh when he played with LeBron.

Neither the Heat with Lebron nor the Cavs will be winning the championship this year, the West is just too stacked, and Lebron, after 4 straight finals appearances, is exhausted.

Moving to the Cavs opened up more possibilities in the future, and allows Lebron to mold a franchise that has a few seasons before the real pressure is on. The Cavs has a lot of built in excuse if it doesn't win a championship (rookie coach, young players, unfamiliarity) while the Heat will be viewed as done.

Lebron made the right move, it preserved his image (possibly even enhanced it) after a historical failure in the Finals, it allowed him to move back home where he will be loved no matter what he does, it allowed him to share the blame with Love, Irving and Blatt, and it gave him more options in the future.

In other words, Miami is pretty much a dead end street, Cleveland at least gave him some choices.

Is pick Miami in 5 or 6.

That said, with a player like Lebron, it's championship or bust so his goal shouldn't be going to a better team, it should be going to a team with better championship outlook and if one is not available, go with the one where he can get more love.

There was no shame losing in the Conference Finals when you have less roster talent than the other teams. Is Noah going to the Hall of Fame? Would you prefer Boozer, Ibaka, Ginobili or Bosh?

It is a shame that they keep relying on middle-of-the-road talent like Hinrich, Noah, Butler, etc... that's entirely on the Bulls, tbh...

Noah a HoF? I don't know. Is Ben Wallace a HoF'er? Big Ben has a ring, Noah is an Euro champ. He's obviously far from Bosh or Gino in that aspect, IMO, tho I'm not sure what that has to do with the Bulls being a gimmick.

Really? Did you hear his Fruedian slip during the 'coming home' ceremony? He said and I quote," If I wanted to be selfish and just think about me and what I want, I would have stayed in Miami. But this is about us, I did what was right and I came back here."
A lot of Cavs fans were like...I think he worded that wrong :cry He meant something else right guys?

He could've made more money staying in Miami.

I don't get the LeBron criticisms. He played for Cleveland for 7 years and they were unable to give him a good supporting cast. So he left for Miami, taking a pay cut to win, went to the finals 4 years in a row, and then, as a free agent decided to return back home. It doesn't seem very complicated.

You have no objectivity about the situation.... Cleveland may be a "shithole" to you, but it is LeBron's home. Lots of people in the U.S. think L.A. is a smoggy, traffic-clogged shithole full of superficial, glitzy, plastic surgery people too. Regardless, LeBron returned to the place where he grew up. Honestly, between the two, I'd much rather live in Cleveland.

and its funny how people think nba players actually care about winning:lol lebron is sitting back on his extra hundreds of millions of dollars he made by going back to cleveland, making commercials out of it and new sponsorship deals while you guys are debating his legacy and shit

This. When's the last time a big time free agent decided to go to SA? All they do is win, in the picture every year.

1) He had every right to leave, its the decision that was retarded. During 2008-2010, there was a quiet cold war going on between Lebron fans and haters. We were saying the dude was an immature brat, his fans on the other hand were claiming he was the classiest guy in the league. The Decision settled the debate, and his delusional behavior and "what should I do" commercial cemented who Bron Bron really is.

2) Teaming up with Wade was embarrassing. It was a bitch made move imho. Someone that is that talented basically told Wade and Bosh that he's a mental midget and needs someone else to take over games. People always say what about Kobe + Shaq...those are two very different positions. Bron Bron was asking for Wade to basically take over the 4th because he couldn't. That's exactly the reason he won 2 and why he wont be able to win again barring any injuries to the WCF champion

Bosh is better than Love, you're seeing that now. It's probably close, but I'd rather have Bosh when utilized properly than Love. Love is doing fine though, so I'm not implying he's bad. Wade looks better than Kyrie with regards to impact. Wade coasts a lot and has to because of his health, but when engaged/healthy, you see how good he's looked this year despite coasting hard if you watch the games.

However, health is huge and it's not a good thing to rely on Wade staying healthy. It's way too early to tell if leaving was a mistake from a basketball perspective, but I don't think it would have mattered either way. Lebron has about as good of a shot to get to the finals with CLE as he would have with MIA, but this core is younger.

The Decision was an overhyped move that LeBron himself regretted later. Not that big a deal. He made a mistake turning it into a media circus. Joining Miami was a really good basketball decision. Only a total homer would argue otherwise. Kobe had much more help (Pau, a healthy Bynum, Ariza, Odom) than LeBron and Boston had its big 3 plus Rondo. LeBron had no other all stars on his team, but Kobe and Kevin Garnett had multiple all stars as teammates. LeBron recognized that he needed a real team, and he was willing to take a pay cut to win.

Teaming up with Wade was brilliant. They were the best SG/SF combo since Pippin and Jordan. They went to four finals in a row together, and would've been even better if Wade's health hadn't deteriorated. Every criticism you have of LeBron is an irrational and emotionally childish rant, like saying joining another great player is "a bitch move." How? He knew Wade and Bosh and respected them and they decided to team up. What's wrong with that? Whatever his chances are of winning a title are right now, they're monumentally better than Kobe's, who has shown himself to be one of the most selfish players in NBA history, demanding to be the highest paid player even though he's well past his prime. No one player in recent memory has ever single-handedly guaranteed his team's demise so thoroughly.

The NBA Finals will be Spurs against Le Bron. If he win with Miami, will be the Big Three, If he win with Cavs, will be Le Bron + the rest of the team. And he will win for his hometown. If the cavs lose, the support from the others aren't enough. Love, Irving aren't contenders by themselves. Never will be too. It's a win-win for Bron

It was worth the risk. The Heat had already hit their peak. They were only going to get worse from there on out given that Wade/James/Bosh weren't taking huge paycuts. So their only hope was that OKC somehow found a way to make it to the finals. (either by beating the spurs legitimately or with some major Spurs injuries)

The unknown of the Cavs' potential is worth it when you're only being judged at this point by championship rings. You know even if the Great Satan dragged Miami to the next 2-3 finals and lost 2/3 of them people would give him a load of shit.

At some point it's not about winning rings. It's about remaining a hot ticket. No one wants to see a juggernaut of 1st overall picks win every year. That would take us back to when the Celtics use to ass rape the Lakers every year, that had to be the most boring thing ever to watch, for 10 years, the Celtics in the Finals. Jesus Christ I'd shoot Dale.

It's about Lebron being the reality TV personality, how's he going to get Cleveland to the Finals, will they gel, etc... If Miami wins again, no one gives a shit. Same with the Spurs.
