This was going to happen this year. We were literally behind by the 4th and 5th decimal places at the beginning of the year.

SAS 1977-2015 (NBA) 1888-1187 .614
LA/MN/L 1949-2015 (NBA/BAA) 3198-2015 .613

We have the highest winning percentage of any team in NBA history.

I read somewhere that Manu has the highest winning % of any player in NBA history? Is that true?

When you compare apples to apples, the Lakers still have a substantial lead:

You're the one cherry picking, only using SOME of the Laker's history. Apples to apples is franchise history against franchise history.

Sure. How is mine less apples to apples? I'm comparing the entirety of one franchise against the entirety of another.

Actually, you're not. You didn't include the 744 games that the Spurs played in the ABA.

The NBA recognizes nothing from the ABA, not W/L or stats. Problem solved.

I understand that and I'm not denying the accuracy of that information, just suggesting that a truer comparison of the two franchises would only include the 40 seasons that they've both played in the same league.

That's not how it goes though. For example, if you were to compare the Carolina Panthers to the Cowboys, you wouldn't just say anything the Cowboys did before 1995 doesn't count. That makes no sense.

If you're comparing the winning percentage of two franchises, it makes perfect sense to me to use the years that they have in common as a measuring stick. Again, I never denied the information in the OP. Those numbers are facts. The numbers I provided are facts as well and were provided to offer some context in comparing the success of the two franchises.

Awesome franchise! Future is also looking to be shaping up well hopefully spurs can land at least another all-star player to help keep the tradition going after Timmy and manu hang it up.

Great post, exstatic! I'm sure this will be repeated numerous times by the media. These stats send a meaningful and powerful message. The margin or gap between these two storied franchises will widen for the near term. For this particular historical category, the Spurs have moved from "one of the", to "THE".

Speaking of stats that aren't discussed..

How about this -

Most wins in the NBA, including regular and playoffs (since 1963-64 acc to Bball-ref, but I suspect, even considering all stats):

1) Karim Abdul-Jabbar: 1228
2) Robert Parish: 1121
3) Tim Duncan: 1050 (poised to go one up after today)
4) Karl Malone: 1050

2 seasons would do it if KG and Allen retire after this year.
