This week in particular has significant playoff implications. In the AFC, a Colts win this week against NE could very well give them the inside track to the top seed--their remaining schedule is dogshit, tbh. New England has the tiebreaker w/ Den but their schedule is murder...I see them finishing 3rd if they lose tomorrow. As for the 4th seed, sorry JoeTait75 (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=8623), but my gut tells me the Ravens or Steelers will take the division. Baltimore will more than likely finish 10-6 and sweep the Browns. Pittsburgh's road is a little rougher but I like them to finish 10-6 as well. These 2 teams will comprise the 4th and 6th seeds. The Bengals have at least 3 likely losses left (@Saints, at Steelers, Broncos), so that would put them at 9 wins--and thank Christ, I'm sick of them wasting a playoff spot every year. The Chargers schedule is laughably murderous, and you can always count on the Dolphins to lose at least one game every year to the Jets (they'll go 9-7). This brings us to the Chiefs--other than the opening stinker they haven't played a bad game this year. It's probably a bit too optimistic to say they'll steal the AFCW from Denver, but they're definitely a lock for the #5 seed. They hold some key tiebreakers right now.
In the NFC the playoff picture is muddied from top to bottom. Two teams immediately jump out at me, for a couple reasons: Green Bay and San Francisco--both our currently on the outside looking in, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that they finish with the byes. Both their schedules are favorable, and I see them winning their respective divisions. Arizona may have gained a big enough head start to squeak into the playoffs, but much like Cleveland I'm expecting a fall off (especially now that Palmer is out). The Lions have that nice 3-game home stretch against duds, which should be enough to get them to 10 wins. This week's game against AZ will be huge in the big picture--a win pretty much guarantees them at least a WC. The Eagles and Cowboys will duke it out till the end for #3, but if it comes down to the last game of the season then, well...you know. The Saints should win out with that sched. The Panthers schedule is cake, but too much Cam Newton doomed their season and it may be too late. This leaves the Seahawks--they're looking at anywhere from 3-5 losses left, easy. They just played 3 awful, awful opponents which inflated their record. Barring catastrophic injuries to other playoff contenders, this team is supremely fucked. Their game at Philly will likely be the death blow, since the NFC East runner up will have the tiebreaker on them in the WC race.
Pretty spot on analysis scro. I don't think Seattle makes it either.

Texans will rise from the ashes with Clowney and Morris healthy and Lord Mallett under center. Their schedule is soft from here on out and they could easily go 9-7 and perhaps even 10-6 if they can gut out a will against Baltimore at home.

AFC North-wise, to me Baltimore still has the best combination of coaching, QB and defense. They're my pick. Pittsburgh loses too many games to bad teams, which to me is a sign of bad coaching. With Cincinnati, Andy Dalton is a hot mess right now.
Cleveland? They might not have the experience and the depth. This Sunday's game is big, though. If the Browns beat the Texans to go to 7-3 I think they'll be in the race till the end. If they lose... look out below.

No Jordan Cameron, no Phil Taylor, no Alex Mack, no Josh Gordon... I wouldn't put this one in the "L" column just yet if I were you. Besides, do you really want to concede a game against the Browns in advance?

good thread double d :tu
Since 2012: Brady 0-7 on road and Luck 8-1 at home against winning teams. Luck's loss to Philadelphia earlier this season. The only really tough games left on the Colts schedule are this week and Dallas in Week 16. Houston game could be close only because division games are weird but I don't think the Colts would lose at home to Houston with a playoff bye at stake.

maybe this is just coming from a fan who is starving for a playoff birth... but i'd take any playoff trip i can in the NFL. you never know who could get hot out of nowhere and win a chip they had no business winning. the giants did it twice. maybe the best QB from that draft class can do it too

The Chargers have an impossible road ahead of them (aside from the next 2 weeks)...doesn't mean they shouldn't try, but it'll be damn hard. The 49ers intrigue me the most--they'll be favored in 6 of their 7 remaining games. This could be a case of an extremely talented team being written off as over-the-hill a year too early (much like the 2012 Ravens).

Absolutely agree. As a Lions fan I will take any playoff berth to keep us from screwing up many more top 10 draft picks please

This isn't the NBA. You really don't have to tank in the NFL to have access to good players in the draft. The Steelers and the Ravens have drafted behind the Browns for years and years, yet they always seem to come up with superior players. Baltimore drafted Edward Reed after the Browns drafted William Green; Pittsburgh drafted Ben Roethlisberger after the Browns drafted Kellen Winslow Jr; etc, etc.
The NBA is more about where you draft; the NFL is more about how you draft.

NFC has a good chance to have several 11+ wins teams, which is crazy, and there's a solid chance that the AFC is going to have 5-6 teams that are going to be battling around 10-6..there's a pretty decent chance that 2 of Pittsburgh/Baltimore/Miami wins 10 games and still misses the playoffs:wow..
This is one of the most competitive seasons that I can remember, tbh..
Oh, and a 6-10 team could win the NFC South..pathetic..

more than half of AZ's drives die within 4-5 plays. that murders your defense which was already thin on injuries. even if you aren't scoring, having sustained drives is a defense's best friend.
its the same story that we saw in the Denver game. for the first 20-25 minutes that game was up for grabs and was within a possession. they picked off Manning twice, forced a few punts. but iirc they had 8 or 9 consecutive drives last for 4 plays or less and the defense started to give up huge plays to demaryius. i dont think its a coincidence

Man, those KC and HOU losses sting even more now...should be sitting at 9-3, but oh well. Our hopes basically hinge on 2 possible, but unlikely scenarios:
1. We beat GB in Buffalo 2 weeks from now--gonna be a tall order but the RWS crowd will be rocking louder than it's been for the past 15 years.
2. Denver loses one of their next 3 games and NE runs the table--therefore giving BB a legit excuse to rest his starters in Week 17. NE losing this week actually hurt the Bills.
Feels good to be in contention in the last month of the season:cry

I agree that Dallas and Detroit finish at 10-6 but I am going to go out on a limb and say that puts them both in, especially if Arizona loses @ ATL this weekend. If they do, I believe there is a good chance they lose out and finish 9-7. I think the niners finish 9-7 also, which puts Dallas and Detroit in as 5 & 6 seeds. Niners could finish 10-6 also, which would then bring in conference wins as the tie breaker I think??? So 2 of those 3 would be in at that point. Now if Arizona beats ATL, they could be 10-6 also. I think SEA wins the division at 11-5 though, but if somehow they finish 10-6, it will get crazy.

my bad. you are right. was looking at a non-updated version it seems. Well in that case I think Arizona is out then at 9-7. With Cowboys, Lions and niners fighting for the 2 WC spots at 10-6. Just dont see them beating any of the 4 teams left on their schedule, Arizona that is. We shall see. And I think the niners could easily go 9-7 if they can't beat the Chargers

Gotta give O'Brien credit, one year removed after 2-14, and nearly ZERO draft picks contributing, at 7-6 one last chance at making the wildcard.
did a great job with Penn State considering the post-Sandusky buttfucking by NCAA. He might be one of the few Belichick guys to really pan out as a HC.

realistically all the teams below them right now likely lose 1 more except for maybe the Ravens. I know we have tiebreaker over ravens but not sure with steelers or 3-way tie.

Yeaaaaaaah, that's how important stopping the run is. Can't stop the run, then you aren't stopping a damn thing. Don't care how good the back end is. Luckily we're solidified once again :toast

Even though we were gashed by KC, it wasn't like we did not have our opportunities. That's what I take from that. The offense is what I'd be concerned with going forward. The D is finally healthy and they are rolling. Simon is proving his worth and avenged the 5-penalty showing against the 49ers. Maxwell has began to be versatile and an unheralded member of LOB. We sorely missed Chancellor and Wags. Those two being that grit and we'll be fine on that end. But you're right. If you give up the run then it's going to be hard to win.

So with that win the Cardinals are in for sure. They'll likely lose their next two games and face the winner of the NFC South. Fucking Cowboys have to win out. :bang

Updated, the Bills are still in it! Gonna take some maneuvering to make it in, but gotta keep the faith:cry
The problem is the AFC North has too many playoff teams--and Pittsburgh & Baltimore likely win out. Cincinnati could likely lose their next 2, but if they happen to beat Denver then that means the Week 17 Bills@Pats matchup will mean nothing to NE (our only chance of winning that game). The Texans could beat Baltimore but the Ravens are guaranteed a blowout victory against Cleveland in Week 17--besides, if we both finish 10-6 I don't know who would get the tiebreaker anyways.
Still, despite a horrible GM, OC, OL, and QB situation the Bills are staying competitive. Imagine this defense when Kiko comes back next year:drool:

The re-formatting of the playoffs to 14 teams with the caveat that they would adjust whom hosts games in cases like this year with the NFC South sucking harder than Asa Akira in her first demo tryin' to make a name for herself--is coming too late tbh. 5-8-1? A division leader? :lol

Finally back on top of the division. I wish I could say that I'm confident that they will stay there, but this team has been the most bipolar of all time. They look like the best team in the NFL some weeks, and the worst team in the NFL other weeks. I'll be sick if the Falcons beat us at home.

Good luck my nigga. I think you guys take ATL.. I think Tampa might pull an upset off though. The Saints tend to always lose games they should win at the end of the year. I think the past two years it was St. Louis

dallas needs the rams to beat seattle in seattle to have any chance at a 2nd seed. Dallas will finish with the 3 seed and host Detroit. Seattle will get 1 seed, GB 2, Dal 3, CAR/ATL 4, ARI 5 and DET 6.

Steelers will handle the Ravens with ease. Then they will have their way with the declining Broncos. They will be way too much for New England and are long overdue to get revenge on Brady/Belichick. Then they finish their SB run dethroning Seattle. Pittsburgh is peaking at the perfect time. This is the most dangerous/complete team in the playoffs and it isn't even close.

Dude, I wasn't even insulting your team directly. The Panthers might make some noise. I'm just saying it's a bit strange to call out the AFC when it was an extremely competitive conference, while a team with a losing record is making the playoffs in the NFC. I didn't think this would be difficult to grasp.
