A thread devoted to cameras. I have become more interested in cameras. I currently don't have a high end camera, only a Canon PowerShot SX150 IS. I would like to own an entry level DSLR like a Nikon D3300 and a GoPro. I have also been reading a little about vintage cameras.:reading

What kind of cameras do you all have?

I've had an entry-level Canon XS/1000D for 4 years. Just started getting in photography a few months ago with some friends. Have my basic 18-55 kit lens and a 50mm prime lens. Nighttime shooting is great.

I just upgraded to the Nikon D7000. Got a really good deal on it. Depending on what you're looking to do with your photography, it's the best deal on the market right now IMO.

What kind of shots are you hoping to get, OP? What is your current photography experience?

As of now, there's a substantial debate to be had for mirrorless 3/4ths cameras. They are near to DSLRs in image quality and very competitively priced. The downside is that they don't have the lens selection, but that's not a problem if you're not going to be spending thousands of dollars on lenses.

For digital, I have my Olympus E-1 with a couple of lenses. I'm pretty sure I'm going to sell it, but it's still a very nice camera, so I'm debating it. For film, I have my even older Contax Aria with a couple of Zeiss lenses. This I should definitely sell (not much sentimental value there).

I can't say I have any interest in replacing my E-1 with a newer camera, so I'll either use it, or sell and forget about photography.

I don't have a lot of experience with photography but I'm playing around more with the iso, aperture and shutter settings.

The 3300 would be a solid camera for you. 5300 is probably better if you want to start getting into manual modes. The D7k is older but can be had for under $600 online and has a ton of advanced features.
