This really is the big elephant in the room. If this lingers at all into April (he's less than 85% or worse shelved), the window is officially slammed shut. Need him to fully recover before coming back.

He's a pretty fragile dude tbh, so they need to take every precaution necessary. No need to rush him back. Make sure he's 100% before he gets back out there.

I think that's the key. We're playing at a really high level defensively. They can afford to bring him along to a complete recovery, and not rush him back.

You would think some sports medicine guy could check his alignment or calf muscles to see where the
problem is. Since it's not his back it will probably be something dumb like the shoes he uses.

Splitter and Beli ran drills Monday. Spurs hopeful for both to return this week.

Bad take is bad

Nerve damage doesn't miraculously heal overnight if it's that. Hopefully it is just Tiago being Tiago and he'll be fine, but in the off chance he's not himself, there is no chance to win the West. The Sacramento, New Orleans and arguably Phoenix losses would have been W's with him.

Bro, if he is out, the Spurs will make a move to get a replacement, and to say the defending champs cant win is borderline retarded

Is it really an "Elephant in the room" if Splitter's condition is an obvious truth that is NOT being ignored, NOR is it going unaddressed and almost every serious Spurs' fan wants to discuss his status?

They don't even have a competent 4th big, yet they're going to find somebody to replace the best defensive big on the team?:lol no..

Splitter will be back by all star break and we will be fine, in the meantime we can learn to play and win without him as insurance against a recurrent injury

Tiago said he doesn't know when he'll be back, he's doing work but doesn't know, maybe a week, maybe 3. He tried to practice before Cavs game but was still hurting. Said he's very frustrated, he wants to play. If he's still not sure it's the back or calf, it's a nerve issue.

If it's a nerve issue, it's not getting better without surgery and/or months of rest.

Let's hope it's just the latter. Spurs can stay afloat until Jan/Feb without Tiago. He just needs to be healthy for the final stretch.

11-20-2014, 09:08 PM
If the issue is in the back and his calf is hurting, it's the sciatic nerve. If is the sciatic nerve, it's a spinal disc. Why the spurs don't hire some specialists to treat him, because it's chronic, the only way to relieve it is some specific workout and some physiotherapy.

Maybe that's "the work" he's been putting in?

When he returns, he should come off the bench on a semi-permanent basis (save for games against Memphis etc.) Having him backup Duncan would keep both of their minutes down 28/20 with some overlapping minutes possibly. I'd love to see Diaw return to the bench as well with Cojo, Manu and Belinelli and Splitter anchoring.

Too bad we don't have a consistent fourth big. Maybe Baynes can serve as a "Blair starter" playing 6 or 7 minutes to start the first and 3rd with spot minutes in the second and 4th. He needs to continue to develop as a finisher and defender to fill out the role but the hustle is there.

Just keep starting Bonner in the regular season until April then reinsert Splitter.

He didn't take time off and played in the worlds this summer. I am not particularly worried considering how Popovich and Splitter baby injuries. Maybe it will never heal but I doubt it.

He is our best pnr defender and it's not particularly close. He is our best counter to Nowitzki, Aldridge, Griffin, Love, and the league's 4s. He needs to start.

He HAS seen a specialist last week in LA. Ruled out back issue. Let's see where we are with Tiago a week from now. Right now, he's trying to play, just not quite ready yet. It's November. Let's let him get healthy.

I think the Spurs might not have minded him playing so that he can keep improving his game, but I guess looking at it now, it seems that it's just too much Bball for him.
