View Full Version : Grizzlies: Is Memphis the biggest threat to the Spurs B2B championship aspiration?

They look really good. They have the 5th hardest schedule and are 10-1. Even better, their offense has improved, breaking the 100 pt mark several times this season. Are they a flash in the pan, or are they for real this season?

No. They don't matchup well with the Spurs. If the Spurs still played their old plodding half-court game, then yeah, Memphis wins that series with their bigger frontline. But the Spurs will spread that defense out just like they did in '13.

Dallas is the biggest threat. Great coaching. An all-time great player. And now they've shored up their interior defense with Chandler (their perimeter defense is still suspect). They're also arguably as deep as the Spurs.

Bah we'll kill them

Their backcourt is pretty much fucked against us

They will beat us in the regular season, but come playoff time, Kiwi, Manu, Patty and even Parker will shred their backcourt to pieces

I still think OKC is the biggest threat. They're not playing shitty enough that they'd be likely to miss the playoffs, assuming Durant and Westbrook can get healthy. Especially considering their pretty easy upcoming schedule. After that Dallas and Houston are probably the most difficult matchups.

What depth are you talking about? Aminu (playing great but let's see if he keeps it up), Crowder, Villanueva? Heck, they don't even have a decent starting PG. :lol

They would give the Spurs some fits because of coaching, Dirk and the rivalry thing but they can't beat the Spurs.

Brendan Wright, Devin Harris (who ALWAYS kills the Spurs), Barea, and Aminu. Solid bench there. Meanwhile, we still don't know if Patty Mills will able to return to form after what will be a long layoff. And who knows if Splitter's pussy will ever heal.

Memphis has 4 wins with a combined total of 6 points. They're schedule has been a cakewalk. Only signature win coming last night against the Rockets. Good start but nothing impressive.

You can't say they are arguably as deep as the Spurs when our third PG would probably be a starter on their team, imho.

Unless Durant or Chimpbrook return by the first of the month, I really don't think Meth makes the playoffs. By that time they'll more than likely be 2-10, meaning they'd have to finish with less than 20 losses from there on out to get the 8th seed. Can't see it with Durant/Chimpbrook having to play their way back into shape while going through a tough schedule (all their games thus far have been against shit competition for the most part).

To answer the question, no; the Spurs are a terrible match up for Memphis. Only threats to the Spurs are Meth (if they somehow get in)/Houston/New Orleans (gonna be them if Meth doesn't get in).

Hasn't Conley always given TP fits? I think they're a tough out, but we've really put the screws on Z-Bo the past few years since the first round upset. Dallas is the worst match-up for our team I think.

Meth has a lot of eastern conference games coming up. I think 5-9 or even 6-8 is achievable before the middle of next month. And Westbrook will probably be back before that. Let's say they go 5-9 before Durant's projected return in mid December. Then they're 8-17, and need 40 wins in 57 games to likely snag an 8 seed. So they'd need to play at a 58 win pace the rest of the season, which is pretty doable if Durant is healthy by then. If it takes Durant until January then they're probably fucked though.

They've lost to the bottom feeders of the East so far outside Boston. Unless they play the Sixers/Lakers I don't see any surefire wins. Also, iirc, Westchimp returns after Durant (which is supposed to be mid-December); the prognosis was closer to the 6 weeks than 4.

Cojo > monta??? :lmao

Not necessarily correct, considering Monta is the SG, but your point that DAF's opinion here is highly retarded is certainly correct.

I am curious if DAF even knows who the 3rd string PG for the Spurs actually is, considering really only 2 have played this season, and Joseph (2nd string) is arguably worse than all 4 of the PGs the Mavs have on the roster (Nelson, Harris, Barea, Felton).

Houston and Dallas are the biggest concerns out west for the Spurs, assuming both sides are relatively healthy (read: spurs aren't right now). Houston doesn't have a great chance at the title but they are very good matchup wise vs the Spurs. Dallas has a lot of confidence from last season, more talent and the second best HC in the league.

slightly, probably 3 fouls in the 2nd quarter, then pop sits him. Kawhi always play bad if he is in foul trouble. he gets frustrated, and his offense wun flow. He would be scared to foul too and relax more on defense.

With OKC probably missing the playoffs, if the Spurs get it together and look anywhere near the level of last year's team, this will be a season similar to 2013/2010/2009/2008 where there's only 1 great team in the West IMO..if they don't, then it's wide open, and probably the weakest Western Conference(at the top) that I can remember, despite the all-around parity and depth..

Every team in the West this year has fatal flaws that prevent them from being dominant..

Memphis- weak on the perimeter, relying on Courtney Lee and ancient Vince Carter to generate offense in the playoffs
Houston- style of play hasn't translated well to the playoffs, terrible coach, questionable bench
Golden State- best player is a PG, Klay Thompson is a playoff choker, Bogut's health, rookie coach, lack of a 3rd option
Dallas- extremely weak at PG, questionable depth, average defense
Clippers- horrible wings/no perimeter defense, Jordan can't play down the stretch
San Antonio- Tony Parker killing the team

Houston- style of play hasn't translated well to the playoffs, terrible coach, questionable bench
Golden State- best player is a PG, Klay Thompson is a playoff choker, Bogut's health, rookie coach, lack of a 3rd option
Dallas- extremely weak at PG, questionable depth, average defense
Clippers- horrible wings/no perimeter defense, Jordan can't play down the stretch
San Antonio- Tony Parker killing the team

Hmm....

Losing to the 6th biggest threat to your place at the top..

How the fuck does that make you guys feel?

Not that bad, you lose and you lose. Doesn't matter if you lose to the #1 threat or the #6 threat.

The Lakers being dead last was right on though.
