Dynasty League Roster

Me and Kris teamed up for a big money 12 team dynasty league. The rules are basically the same as a regular league, except that you get to keep eight players from year to year.

I think we got a good, young team. I think we can contend this year if some of our younger players perform, but the long-term outlook looks promising.

WR corps is really thin. Have you considered Michael Jenkins (WR - ATL). Everyone in the ATL camp says P Price will lose his job to this rookie, he has been that good in camp. I saw him in a preseason game, and looks to be a very solid WR for years to come. It is also reported that he and M. Vick are also very good friends, couldn't hurt his chances of catching TD's.

I would also try to get a few more proven talents. Rookies are great, but most never pan out. It would be tough to draft in that league, It's tough to plan several years in the future in the NFL. Of course, who's to say your league will last that long. Take these seasons "One Year At A Time". Win now, let the rest work itself out IMO.

Yeah, he was drafted. I'm not too sold on him though. Last year he did next to nothing and this preseason his only decent game was when all the other top three WRs were out.

WR is definetely thin. I'm hoping for Branch and Rod Smith to hold us above water for the year and for one of the young WRs to step up.

Very true. I'm a big fan of veteran WRs but they just weren't around later in the draft. There was a run in the mid-rounds that led teams to reach for WRs too soon, so we decided to just stock up on RBs with potential during that time.

As far as how long the team will be around, it seems to be a pretty serious league. There are rules in place to assure it last at least a couple seasons, but I guess we'll see.

ouch, looks like slim pickings on the waiver wire....

Maybe towards the end of the year, look for Bradley Van Pelt from Denver on the waiver wire.

He is the #2 QB this year, but I have faith the Snake's days are numbered. I went to Houston and saw Van Pelt in the preseason game vs the Texans, and he was outstanding. Very young, very mobile, and Denver fans love him (Colorado State product).

Most likely not a solid pickup unless Jake gets fired or injured, but I think the kid has potential.

Where did you draft KJ? I took him at 1.02. Who did you take in the second round .... Gates, Carnell? I like Larry J., but I wonder how good he will be once the Chiefs O-line ages a little more.

Your receivers do look like kind of a downer, but then again, a lot depends on league settings. Curtis and Curry might shine though. If Curry is fully recovered from his achilles injury, he's only a Jerry Porter hamstring away from producing big numbers. Travis Taylor, no thanks. Is Peter Warrick available? He has a contract heavy on incentives this season with Seattle.

Oh, and not to be picky (in a geek sort of way), you are in a keeper league as opposed to dynasty. Of course you are doing IDP, which makes you a bigger geek than me.

If you are looking for a sleeper pick, check out Kelly Washington. Myself, I'm banking on Chris Henry long term, but KW might surprise me.

Keep your eye on Michael "The Burner" Turner. He's stuck behind LT, but he's got Stud RB tattooed all over him.

We amazingly got KJ at 1.08. We got Carnell in the second round (a bit of a reach but all the top tier backs were gone) and Gates in the third. Johnson was our fourth round pick. Honestly, he's trade bait. I'm waiting for Priest to go down for a couple games and then trade Johnson for the best deal.

Yeah, I'm not sold on our WRs. As you can see in the $250 league, I'm a veteran WR fan. These young guys are raw but I'm hoping a couple of them bust out. Prolly won't happen, but that's where trading Johnson comes in.

It's billed as a keeper/dynasty hybrid. The rules aren't as strict in regards to keeping players year to year as most keeper leagues are.

We're doing a lot of scouting. Hopefully we'll pick up some gems in the first couple of weeks.

IMO, Ronnie Brown could be the steal of the draft for us. 6th round for a guy who will be around for a long time? Nice.

To the other half: I know you spoke of trade possibilities, but hearing you now, I think you're set on trading Larry Johnson. That will make for some good closed door discussions. If LJ is playing, I think he's a top two back in the league (behind the o-line), so I don't know we would be so quick to deal him.

We got Carnell Williams in the second. LJ was big on him and I only knew of what four or five feeds told me, so I went with his expertise.

Our WR's are paultry compared to the other receiver corps of the league, but I don't think they will be as bad as some think. There are a lot of unprovens, but also a lot of room for potential. Guru, I think Taylor will have a decent year - around 5-6 tds, 750 yards. Branch might be an upper tier guy this year, but his name doesn't excite anybody. If Rod Smith catches his usual 6 or 7, or Matt Jones continues to be a phenom we should be able to tread water with the receivers, while our other positions dominate teams.

Coz - I agree that most of our team is young, but these are guys that have shown they are capable and/or played enough to both of us to believe in their potential.

Looking at this team, I feel we are ready to contend for the championship this season, and even moreso for years to come. Our guys are really good now (KJ and AG) but they will get even better with experience.

I'm not sold on Williams or Brown, but I think one of them has a decent shot at being a stud in the years to come.

Our toughest decision was to draft Roy Williams or Gates and obviously we took Antonio. I think it was the right move.

Our WR's are admittedly weak, but to have as much talent elsewhere as we have at every other position, something has to give.

If it doesn't pan out for us in year 1, there's always next year.

We're a top 1/3 of the league for sure though.

Chad Johnson in a keeper league is nice. But I'd dispute this assessment of Reggie Williams. The dude has physical skills that can't be disputed. But, according to the reports that I've read, he is a horrendous route-runner. All of the physical gifts in the world mean nothing if you can't get yourself open. They reportedly worked with him on that last season, and the problem still dogs him.

Personally, I wouldn't put too many eggs in the Reggie Williams basket.

Actually, I've read many favorable reports on Reggie during this pre-season. He may still live up to his potential. Either way, he's #5 on the WR depth chart.
