I've grown up in L.A. all my life--its a hate/love relationship with the LAPD and they aren't perfect. Far from the Chief Parker days of the 40-50's (Where cops murdered Mexicanos and Blacks with impunity) but it still has its moments. There was the Kelly Thomas incident in Fullerton (Orange County) and there was the cold-blooded murder of Daryle Black in Long Beach. So it is definitely a difficult thing to balance. Either you're like me who has had mixed experience with the police but for the most part, pleasant. Or, you have had bad experience after bad experience and so it breeds a distrust in you.
