“I think Byron’s done a great job,” Kupchak said. “He’s instilling his culture and players compete and work hard in practice. It’s very organized and he likes to work. He’s got his hands full with the roster, but right now we can’t put anything together insignificant. But I think he’s doing a great job.”

It is LA. They are all about hiring characters.

not sure who else could do a better job with this roster. the lakers are just terrible.
lin, kobe, wes and boozer all shot above 50% from the field last night and played great team ball and they still couldnt beat a team without kevin martin, rubio and that serbian pek dude :lol
the coach can only do so much, its the players who needs to step up defensively on the floor.

But, you had an inkling that Duncan would be Duncan, but, no guarantee. You were flying blind by the seat of your pants tanking your asses off. The chickens have come home to roost now. Don't you dare say a fuckin' word about tanking, Lee. You owe everything:::lock, stock and barrels to that tank.

it's not that its annoying. 5>4 was annoying too. anything repeated over and over and over again becomes annoying. but 25-5-5 not only false (he aint averaging that), but its also "a pretty" as you would put it. in the game 7 loss when Duncan missed the bunny, he put up 24-12 with 4 steals. you won't hear anybody here taking pride in shit like that.

I'm just not convinced the players and Scott are following the script typed up by Mitch and Jimmy. They legitimately seem to be trying to win games.

But the mention of "tanking" to Kupchak results in a lightning-quick reply."We would never do that," he said. "This business doesn't work that way."
As proof, Kupchak noted how late last season, when every loss meant a better chance at a higher lottery pick, the Lakers won their final two games, both on the road. Had they lost those games, they would've tied for the fourth-worst record in the league; instead, they had the sixth-worst.
"Our feeling is, you can't manipulate [the system]," Kupchak said. "It's bad Karma. First of all, just the whole concept of talking to your coaches and sending a message that, 'We want to lose,' it's just so counter to professional sports and to the way that this organization thinks."
He added, "I don't even know where you begin. Do you call a coach in and say, 'Listen, I want to talk to you about something. We've got to lose these games.' And then if that coach leaves your organization in three years, and he says, 'Yeah, the Lakers wanted to lose ...'
"I mean, it doesn't work," Kupchak said. "And if you did do that, the Karma would be such that you'd probably end up with the 14th pick. But the message to send out is not the right message.
