Keuchley led us to 12-4. WTF has Watt ever led anyone to? "5 TD's first time since 1944". Yea, cause they ran him 2 1 yard TD passes. Padded stats. K has been in the game 2 years and won Rook of Year, DMVP, and is still growing. Yea, I'll take my chances.

The exact reason I left these forums. People don't know shit.

Peppers in his glory days was amazing, one of the best DE ever (yes, ever). He led us farther than Watt has ever led us.

I'm not saying Watt is not as good as prime Peppers, but DE's do not have that much weight on success.

Look at the 49ers. Their LB's are the reason they are good. When they weren't there this year? Mediocre.

that was Mono's point tbh. a tackle after a play went for a first isn't really impactful when it comes to the result of the game. when its a 3rd and 1 and you make a tackle after a 4 yard gain, it's really not an impressive play.

Absolutely dominant.

Yet on average that's still only about 1 sack, 1 TFL and 1 tipped pass per game. Even if you factor in QB hurries or drawing double teams it still really puts into perspective how small the impact is compared to a QB/RB/WR. That's just how it is.

cmon man. when you put up that many sacks, think about how much opposing offenses need to gameplan specifically to stay away from you. double teams, limited the playbook, never running in your direction. makes it easier for the rest of the defense, even on plays where he doesnt record a statistic

i did not say he'd be the mvp, but if you have a shitty record, your D is not even close to being the top ranked one and you don't even lead the league in sacks, interception or tackles, then i don't see a scenario where a few td (well, not that few) can make him the mvp.

Watt has the most pass deflections by any defender, most fumble recoveries, most tackles by a defensive lineman, most combination tackles by any defender in the league. Watt belongs in that club with Jim Brown, Don Hutson, "Slingin" " Sammy Baugh, "Night Train" Lane, Deacon Jones, "Bullet" Bob Hayes amd Lawrence Taylor........those who were unique and not seen before.

If I could start a new franchise and could have any player other than a QB it would be Watt.

The first college basketbaler to make an impact in the NFL was Niner receiver R.C.Owens. He played b-ball at Idaho.

He and Hall of Fame (to be) QB were the first to use the ...Alley Oop...pass as a legit weapon. Tittle would just throw it up high and Owens would out jump everyone for the ball.

There was a game where the opposition was going to try a long field goal, the thought process was....it might just make it barely.....so they put Owens back there to block it, yep....jump up and bat the ball down....hahahaha!!!!!!!

copy

Owens was a trail blazer of another supremely athletic move. But it was one that was barred from the game.

In 1962, the 6-foot-3 Owens wowed fans by standing under the goal post at the goal line (goal posts have since been moved to the back of the end zone) and leaping to block a long, line-drive field-goal attempt by the Washington Redskins. The tactic was legislated out of existence.

Have you read what your retarded buddy dumbjohn has been writing? I never said any lineman could run a simple route and catch a pass either--although I also don't think it's some rare trait. Youre completely missing the point. Like I said previously good hands dont make someone a legit receiving threat. There's alot more that goes into it and Watt just doesn't have that skillset. Two of his catches were little cupcakes. The over the shoulder catch was a well thrown ball more than anything- -its not like he outclassed the LB on that play the way legit redzone threats do.

yeah, and nobody ever tried to say that watt was as good as gronk either. that was you, trying to go the hyperbole route and make it seem like people were calling Watt a great receiver, when people were simply remarking how impressive it is for a guy who plays DT to be able to go into a red zone situation and make that play. you are trying to downplay watt's impact on the game and overall beastliness because you have a personal vendetta against two posters who happen to be Texans fans.

Montana: 51/38
Advantage: Cam

QBR AVG:

Montana: 86.3
Advantage: Cam

Rushing Yards:
Newton: 2032 yards, 28 TD's, 5.6 rushes per carry
Montana: negative yards
Advantage: Cam

Completion %:

Montana: 61.6%

I agree. It's dumb to think that the Ravens overcoming their choke against the Browns in the 4th quarter should cost Watt the MVP.

The NFL is only 16 games, which in my opinion is too small of a sample size to make the "but he didn't make the playoffs derp!" argument. You mean to tell me if Watt played for the Panthers, he's suddenly deserving? How many teams miss the playoffs on tiebreakers over teams that they hadn't even play?

GB would Zero chance at the playoffs and they could still win the SB. All because of Aaron Rogers.

Watt can't get Houston there. Unless he can throw the ball.

For the simple tards in this thread I'll break it down for you. Watt carried a 2-14 team to 9 wins, which is a 7 game improvement and ties for the third best record in franchise history(for those that can't count) with No QBS, no tight ends, Clowney on IR, no other pass rusher, yet the defense had the most takeaways in the NFL thanks to Watts' 115 QB hurries being double and triple teamed. This is while playing a position (3-4 DE) that is not supposed to make that kind of impact. So on the last day of 2014, you two manage to make the dumbest posts of the year :lol

Let me clarify this shiiiiiiiiiiit! :lol You can't win MVP the same year your team is going lotto. 35.4ppg and being the best player in the NBA don't mean shit to MVP voters. No way Nash should have won the MVP over Kobe that year but he did. Same will happen to Watt. :lol

Nope, too late. You said MVPs don't play for lotteryteamsPERIOD.

GB would Zero chance at the playoffs and they could still win the SB. All because of Aaron Rogers.

Watt can't get Houston there. Unless he can throw the ball.

QB is by far the most important position. It's all Aaron Rogers, and if it ain't, it's a travesty. They need another award for Watt besides Defensive player of the year.

Ehhh....you could make that argument for more than just rodgers. If brady, romo, manning, luck etc go down their respective teams are fucked too.

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt was named the Pro Football Writers of America Defensive Player of the Year, it was announced today. Watt, who also won the award in 2012, joins Bruce Smith (1993 and 1996) and Ray Lewis (2000 and 2003) as the only players to earn the distinction twice.

The accolade is the latest in a growing list (http://www.texanstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107520#) of honors for Watt, who was named to the Pro Bowl, Associated Press All-Pro First Team and PFWA All-NFL team for the third consecutive year following a season (http://www.texanstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107520#) for the ages...
