If they land Finley, would this be the best offseason FA wise in the history of the Spurs?

What about the year they got DA....What about the year they got Rasho...What about the year they got Barry....um....Yeah this may be one of the best free agency off seasons for the Spurs. I think its more big names than you usually see during a Spurs off season.
The offseasons when the Spurs signed Mario Ellie and the one when they signed Kerr proved to be big signings....

What about the years they kept Duncan, and Robinson. Surely they get some consideration for best offseasons?

If Finley signs, yeah, it's the best additions the Spurs have made to a team that I can recall.

I'm talking about in terms of brining in out of city FA's. Not keeping your own.

if we get finley, this upcomin season will be the first time i can actually say the spurs are stocked

The spurs are more known for their drafting than for their free agency moves, so if finley comes this would be at or near the top.

I'd probably say the best was the summer of 1994 when they got AJ, Sean Elliott and Chuck Person (not to mention Doc Rivers a little bit later on). Those are two starters for the next five seasons and two pretty important bench players.

I can't rate any offseason higher than the one of 2000. Back then Grant Hill was a top 5 player and a certain first-ballot hall of famer, and I was scared as hell that was going to be too much for Tim to pass up.

im not counting resigning duncan and d-rob, those would have been major losses, resigning them was more a necessary stablalising move. That being said if finley signs this will be one of the best off seasons in memory

Imagine what would have happened if Tim went to Orlando? Spurs might be a lottery team right now. knock on wood

I guess the summer of 89 was pretty good too though... signing Dave, trading that nutcase Alvin for TC, landing Cheeks and later turning him into Strickland and also drafting Sean.

You know, I was going to read this thread and make some highly intellectual reply but then I saw that gospursgojas posted and saw that gif in his sig of Bowen doing the flying kick.
I never get tired of that. :lol

Is that a reaction to who was involved in that sign and trade? The reasoning behind the S&T was DA went for Portland's money and the Spurs wanted to get something out of it rather than just see DA walk. It ultimately helped both sides because Kerr became a key role player in 2002-03, particularly down the stretch and in two key playoff games. He and Steve Smith helped the Spurs in the "room" and on player development from the inside.

This is looking like a very solid offseason. Certainly better then the one after we won the Championship in 2003.

The top 10 offseasons have to be (in chronological order):
197? - Spurs land Ice - gain 1st franchise player and legend
1987 - Spurs draft DRob - gain 2nd franchise player and legend who is major part of 2 title teams
1989 - Spurs sign DRob - draft Elliott, trade for TC - gain player integral to 1st title
1994 - Spurs sign AJ, trade nothing for Elliott - reacquire players integral to 1st title
1997 - Spurs draft TD, sign Rose - gain 3rd franchise player and future legend and player integral to 3 titles; gain player integral to 2 titles
1998 - Spurs sign Kersey, Elie & Kerr, trade nothing for AD - gain players integral to 1st title
1999 - Spurs draft Manu - gain player integral to 2nd and 3rd titles
2000 - Spurs re-sign TD, sign DA for nothing - Spurs retain player who forms the basis for 2nd and 3rd titles
2001 - Spurs draft TP, sign Bowen and Jack - Spurs gain players integral to 2nd and 3rd titles
2002 - Spurs sign Manu, trade for Kerr - Spurs gain player integral to 2nd and 3rd titles; reacquire player integral to 2nd title

The worst offseason, without a doubt:
1992 - Spurs lose Strickland for nothing, TC blows out knee, Spurs pass on trade for MVP to be Barkley

Had Rasho maintained his Twolves numbers in SA, he would have been a hugely positive 2003 signing. Alas....

I'd say Bruce Bowen (signed 7/31/2001) was an "integral" player.
