I have a lease but it is in the south zone, which doesn't open season until Sept. 23rd. I'm still looking though.

I'll be there when the South Zone opens.

We have a place just south of Dilley.

If it flies, it dies!!!

FYI, I-10E & Hwy 90 W are the lines of demarcation for the south zone.

You'll know it's dove season when all the doves fly into town.:lol

I've always hunted South Zone too. Does anyone have anymore room on their leases? Or, are they open to more people? I'm looking for one again this year. I'd like to get a single season lease more than a daily one.

You've never eaten dove breasts? Slap on half a jalapeno, wrap in bacon, skewer with a toothpick and throw on the grill. Baste with beer as desired, but when you pour beer on them you must say "for my fallen homies".:lol

Never understood the attraction of shooting those tiny little Doves...You need fifty to make a meal...In So Cal we have these giant birds just running around, often times clogging our freeways...Just grab a rope & you have yourself a feast plus meat for the freezer...

Why is it stupid? Have you ever been? Have you ever eaten dove before? You can BBQ them by the way. You probably get two pieces of meat, each larger than a chicken nugget from each bird you take. Now if you're a good shot that means 1 shell a bird. A box of 25 shells will run you $3.50. So say you get 15 birds a box. That's 30 large nuggets for $3.50. Plus there is the enjoyment of the hunting itself. It's really hard to understand unless you've tried it, but you can still enjoy eating dove without the hunting part.

That's not really true.. you can have a good meal with 2 dove. That's 4 little breast nuggets...

If you hunt to kill and eat and it's not a dangered species it's all good....

Same as shit in the store with a little white foam and plastic wrap... it's a DEAD ANIMAL.. Tasty animals!

Well that's with a side of mashed potatoes (w lots of butter and black pepper), some green beans, the bacon wrap and a cold beer.

I will be in Hondo in the morning. Opening day there is consistently the best dove hunting around. Those whitewings just come in wave after wave...I use the over and under .410 so that I don't limit out in 5 minutes. I'll be back there south of 90 on the 20th when south zone opens...

nice shooting. I missed more than that but was using the .410 and not being very shot selective. Hit 6 doubles yesterday.
