What do you guys think, tbh? Bad sign for his own personal confidence level?

Do you think his comments have anything to do with Kawhi having an increased role now?

The comments in that article are hilarious.

"The run is done. Start the rebuilding process." So many people had no idea that future finals appearances were on the way.

On another note, Parker said he will play for France this summer in EuroBasket, with Olympic bids on the line.

is this guy just trying to sabotage the spurs? he finally got a summer off and he wants to go right back in

The rebuild took place, tbh... it was just on-the-go... Tiago, Danny, Kawhi, Boris, Patty... the FO doesn't get enough credit for the quick turnaround, IMO

2011 :lol Tony had given up hope :cry

To be fair to Tony though, this was before Timmy's rejuvenation. He was still in his hard-to-watch decline in 2011.

In hindsight, I think the FO did too...

They made the bold move (for this FO anyways) of trading up in the draft to get Kawhi, something they've not really done for years, before or after. It was a big gamble, because Kawhi wasn't a sure thing, and I do believe Pop really loved Hill...

But it really paid off...

Yep. Not defending TP because if you are out there you have to believe in your team to win but honestly no one thought that after 3 years we'd be back on top.

2011 it was over, they were saying (Alot in here and it did look like) Tim is done and he was getting blocked alot and looked pretty bad, that and the first round exit as the first seed. The run did look very much over, then came the WCF, Finals and Finals win, damn who would have guessed after 011? I am guessing NOBODY.

Pretty much unless you had a crystal ball you are dead on.

After the 2011 season Pop said essentially the same thing to RC in telling him that "I can't go with this team as is - I have no bench".

Timmy got the message about reworking his diet and training, RC got the message about getting the team some help, so things changed.

But in the summer of 2011 - Parker's comments were the same ones his coach was making, only Pop said it internally.

Such stupidity for opening a thread with a quote from 2011 as though it had just been said. That statement has been quoted by Parker haters on this forum for the last three years.

Another quote is that Tony told Timmy after they lost in 2012 "I promise we will get to the finals next year" - and he delivered on the promise. They didn't win the title, but how many people honestly believed at the start of the 2012-2013 season that the Spurs had a shot at the title that year.

It's a no brainer in retrospect (and possibly for both teams). Spurs knew they had topped out with Hill ... Duncan looked old and they couldn't defend 3's. Grabbing a guy in the draft that filled this need was riskier, but there was way more upside there. Hill played the same position as our best player (at the time) and was about to hit restricted FA.

The Pacers added Hill to supplement length at the wings and create one of the best defensive forces in the league. Didn't need Kawhi because they had someone of a similar mold in George. The team came pretty close to knocking off the Heat.

In retrospect, it looks like a total ripoff - particularly with the Hill contract - but can see what they were each doing at the time.

You have to understand that when he said this he thought he was going to be the leader of the Spurs for the foreseeable future. He knew that if that was the case then the team had no chance. This is why so many posters here hate on Manu: they wish he was as honest as Tony.

the Spurs did get back to thier winning ways after that comment.

Parker got Pop and RC to get off thier ass and look for help.

Props to parker for speaking the truth.
