Of course the league will be infinitely less interesting when Kobe is gone.

Most guys will simply play since theyre being paid millions of dollars to do so.

But this was a no-win situation for Kobe. If he plays and they lose it would only reinforce the idea that he is a cancer. If he plays and they win (highly unlikely), the story will be how his teammates have learned to play well without him.
