Patty clarified that he's been cleared for full contact 5-on-5, but he still hasn't done so yet. He said he still expects to beat the mid-January timetable though.

I'd imagine he's still at least a week away from returning. Still good to hear that he'll likely be back early January though.

Tirico just said that Kawhi's return all depends on pain tolerance. The "Kawhi is telling his peers he wants to play vs OKC" rumor is BS

12-25-2014, 04:31 PM
Sorry. I don't care what Tirico says. Pop is saying Leonard can't use his hand while Leonard is saying he can play.

We know how Pop is when it comes to sitting players. But you equate it to Leonard being a pussy. Makes sense.

Don't expect Patty to fix all this team's problems.

He's still not a great defender. I was very disappointed that he couldn't start the season on time as I thought these games were a good chance for him to keep working on his defense and try and improve a bit more in that area.

Patty isn't a defensive stopper, but he would have to suck a lot to be worse defensively than our starting PG ATM, tbh

He's never going to be a great defender, just like how Joseph will never be the offensive player Patty is. Patty is desperately needed right now for scoring and taking the load off of Manu/Parker.

Possibly could help with what you mentioned, but the Spurs right now are getting their asses lit up by opposing PGs. I was just pointing out that that is a current weakness of this team and that he's not going to help much in that area.

When I found out that Patty would be out, that's the first thing I thought of, his defense and his personal growth/development is going to be set back. I was very disappointed for him.

I was looking forward to him using this time and early part of the season to keep improving his defense. He really did make some decent strides on that end of the court last season, was very pleased with the effort he put in to try and be a better defender. It would have been great for him to keep learning the players in the NBA and how to defend them. He was only going to get that by playing against them with more court time.

I think Patty is actually a pesky defender. He drew some timely charges against Miami in the Finals. His speed alone makes him a threat. He's never going to be a traditional, lock down defender but he'll have his moments.

Green will always get the duty of guarding PGs.

Cory Joseph was pretty much a +/- disaster last season, finishing the year at -10. Mills was at about +5 last season. So if Cory continues with the progress he has made this year (in the positive consistently), and Mills plays at the same level as last season (a reasonable expectation), the Spurs will be a deeper team. Deeper than the team that won the NBA championship in convincing fashion.

You guys are already on it.

How about stop jumping the gun and just wait until he comes back and see how he looks before you go declaring the 7th seeded Spurs are anything better than a 7th seed.

They haven't proven shit yet and it's no guarantee they will go off when certain players get back on the court. They've got a lot of work to do. Players coming back into the lineup doesn't mean they're magically going to go on some kind of huge run. They've put themselves in a huge hole and they have a shitload of work to do to get out of it. They're going to have to work very, very hard even when they do have a full lineup. If they don't play with consistent effort and a hell of a lot more focus than they've shown thus far, then they're not going to get anywhere even when those guys do come back.

Peeps are going to expect too much when Millss gets back. Don't expect him to just start lighting it up every game. He wasn't even doing that last year.

Yep about another week to get into "game shape" and that's NYE. Even if it's 10 minutes a game for a bit, that's 10 minutes that CoJo and Manu don't have to handle the ball.

Exactly, while Patty Mills isn't a true PG, he's head and shoulders above CoJo in running the point.

Playoffs skewed their thoughts some on Patty, you are fully correct though. He can light it up in bundles when he is hot no doubt but if they are expecting a starting type PG and savior once he comes back some are going to be VERY dissapointed. I like Patty but they do overrate him in here, you would swear he is an all star the way some talk about him.

How is this thread 3 pages in less than a day, yet the Kawhi one is only 4 after a few days.

I'm not sure if Patty will make that much of a difference if Kawhi is out a while. That's going to negate Patty coming back a little bit. Spurs are screwed if Kawhi is out an extended period of time.

spurspokesman
12-26-2014, 08:17 AM
We need our finals mvp back. We are down three guys right now if you include the shitty play of parker. Parker gets better , kawhi and patty returns and we will be cooking down the stretch.
