The 1999 Knicks are the only 8th seeded team ever to reach the NBA finals. The 1994–95 Houston Rockets, a sixth seed with a record of 47–35, were the lowest seeded team to win the NBA finals.

Duncan didn't. He led the team in pretty much everything.

Kobe, on the other hand, is like the only American basketball player (aside from A.I., who Duncan was unfortunately saddled with) to not shoot over 50% in international play.

Tim is a great player, but a huge part of that greatness is the consistency of the Spurs organization. He never had to go through a period without Pop or a great nucleus around him. This is not me defending Kobe as I can give 2 fucks about that guy, this is just a very accurate criticism of him. Also, his inability to ever repeat has really put a dent on his legacy, its crucial he repeats this year and cements himself as one of the top 3 GOAT or else he'll always be that guy that won 1 here and there

Another Spur won the gold. It's all good. How'd Kobe do? Oh that's right, he made Chauncey Billups a MVP and sent Gary and Shaq to Miami to win another ring.

But isn't Duncan's professional temperament part of the legacy of consistency and greatness? Duncan never had a coach write a book talking about how he wouldn't listen to coaching instructions, never had public feuds with teammates, and was never the reason a good player would refuse to resign with the team. Teammates enjoyed playing with Duncan so much that they stayed and played for less money and for a very tough coach. I think you present the consistency of the Spurs as something lucky that Duncan stumbled upon, when in fact that consistency originated with Duncan himself.

You came here in 2010 just like most of the post Pau bandwagon shit talkers. Evidence says you've been a fan since Pau propelled the Lakers to the championship, not in 2008 when Kobe got his shit pushed in over in Boston, not in 2009 before the outcome was known, but in 2010 after you could come with a banner over your head.

it's Kobe's egoistic mind rather than his body that prevents him from being a decent player to his team imho. if he accepts a smaller role like Duncan does he would still be a useful player and make positive impacts tbh.

I get your point, and there's a truth to it. However, I dont think Pop not wanting to retire and the Spurs constantly surrounding Tim with a great nucleus was his doing. Again, it takes a top 10 great player in TD and one of the best leaders of all time to continuously win championships in so many random eras as he has. However, he is extremely fortunate he didn't go through a transition period where Pop wanted to take time off.

I've always felt when you really look at it, as much as we hate to admit it, great coaches are much more important than players. MJ needed Phil, despite all the bullshit criticisms that Phil needed him. Yes, Phil wouldnt win 6 with a shitty team, but they both needed eachother, Kobe needed Phil, Magic needed Riley, and TD needed Pop. I truly believe without a great coach, none of these guys would get to the point they did.

Don't see how Duncan's legacy is effected by not repeating. Larry Bird never repeated but people still list him as a top 10 and a lot put him as a top 5 player of all time. They are only two guys from a winning and individual awards that exceeds Duncan's career which is Jordan and Jabbar. You can definitely make an argument that Magic and Russell is ahead of Duncan. Factor all of this in Duncan falls between 3-5 all time. Repeating won't put Duncan ahead of Jordan and Jabbar. Duncan's legacy is pretty much set and winning another one would be just gravy.
