View Full Version : Kawhi. What's the story? How long is he out for? How bad is the injury? Any progress?

Wait Kawhi fans are defending Kawhi? Next thing you know Parker fans will defend Parker, Manu fans will defend Manu etc. Can't have fans supporting their favorite players on the team they support...

We've found our SF. The starters finally have someone they can rely on to hit open threes, Austin Daye. Let that injury prone role player walk and max out Jimmy Buckets, tbh

Does he really wanna roll with Kirk Hinrich come playoff time for the rest of his career? He'd flourish here more than he already has

Na. He can actually live up to the "Lebron Stopper" name without letting him drop 30+ Pts three times in the finals.

I don't think Kawhi is worth the max either... but nobody plays 40mpg in the Spurs, so it's kinda a moot point anyways...
I'll be surprised if he doesn't stay in the East... much easier there.

Pop won't be there for all of Kawhi's career. He's going to have to step up and play man minutes at one point in the future.
Another thing I like about him is that he knows when it's his turn to score and when it's the scoring PG's turn. Unlike Leonard, who seems passive and hides in the shadows most of the time.

So better max Daye because the Spurs can't let Tony go after sign that toxic contract.
However, if we are looking a SG/SF who can hit 3's...that's guy isn't Jimmy. 31.7 3P% career (Leonard 36.9 %).

Ive seen the Bulls play, Butler doesn't require Kobe-esque ISO's to score, unlike Leonard

They said that but nobody can know after playoffs. The player's value increase/decrease after good/bad playoffs.
Jimmy has a great season scoring but he isn't really versatile offensively. It was too easy for opposing teams to neutralize him in every Chicago loss this season. Like yesterday against Wizards.
And what happens to their plan if Butler plays poorly in the playoffs or if the Bulls go out early in first round?
Bulls' owner is cheap and maybe isn't willing to go to tax if needed...That opens the door for plenty of teams.

Better than a Paul George injured? Better than a Kawhi injured? Sure. George/Leonard healthy >>>Butler.

You do know that James scored some of those points when Kawhi was on the bench after getting some very soft/cheap fouls called against him throughout the series right? The same type of foul calls that Lebron hardly ever gets called against him. I'd like to see how much of those points James scored when Kawhi wasn't guarding him, and how much of those points were scored when the game was over.

Yes, Lebron/Durant have the superstar treatment, but fortunately for us, the last games of both series, refs were more impartial or at least less biased

But then again it is ST. I never got the Manu or Tony hate on here either.
I agree with you 100% man, I got love for all of them and wonder where the hate comes from? Kawhi especially since he is not in that international debate idiots seem to have for their fellow countrymen, they either hate Manu or Tony it seems and stay true to that. I never will get it? Some fans seem to just be a fan of a player and not a full team like me and you are.

I still think Kawhi definitely got called for some very, very soft fouls. I'm not just talking about the first two games. Most of the calls were technically fouls, but very cheap ones that I hardly ever seen Lebron get called for. If the Spurs didn't have such an overall great team performance, then those fouls may have made a big difference to the series. At the end of games, Lebron has like 2 fouls, yet Kawhi had to sit for stretches because of some ticky tack bullshit. The refs did try and take him out of the series early, make no mistake about that. Spurs and Kawhi came back though with a monster team performance in the last 3 games of the series.

will be interesting to see how the offense shifts once Kawhi is back. When he was healthy, there was a concerted effort to get him more involved with mixed results. Once he's back, I wonder if Pop goes back to it or we see him relegated to elite role player status again like last regular season...even I'm not sure what I'd like to see...tbh......

Couldn't have said this better myself.
I truly can't figure out what the best thing would be. You are absolutely right that the early results were mixed, at best, but at the time I thought there were at least two contributing factors to that:
1) Tiago being out early in the year, and Tiago is more important to a smoothly functioning Spurs offense than lots of folks realize.
2) The Spurs' offense has been so set for so long that MOST of the starters really didn't seem to know what to do with themselves when the coaches were trying to change the offensive set to include more scoring from the three position than has historically been the case.
Those two factors are undoubtedly why some of the turnovers were occurring early in the season, but none of us can be sure that there was enough time to see if it would eventually work out or not. Between the pink eye and the hand injury, there has been little time to get all the starters comfortable with a new set that includes or centers around Kawhi, and now I don't know if they can afford the losses that may come with the 'learning curve' until it gets done.
That 'corporate knowledge' thing can apparently be a two-edged sword.
rasuo214

Probably depends on 2 factors:
1. Kawhi's health.
2. How well Tony Parker is playing.

If he isn't 100% healthy, if his hand doesn't work completely well and affects his shooting, he'll lose his new prominent offensive role, but he can still help the team, playing elite defense and rebounding.
"I'm sure about what I'd like to see"...the guy of the four games last West Coast road trip, a beast on both ends.
Leonard is certainly capable of handling more offensive responsibility, and the team need that he assume a bigger role.

I forgot I made this thread. He really is a slow/weird healer. His body is fucking weird, and I didn't think you can have surgery for tendonosis?
I really do wonder what his nutrition and diet is like. Maybe he's taking the wrong combination of things, because from my own experience if you've got your nutrition right, then healing usually is much quicker for most things. Not sure about stuff like tendonosis, though, as I've never really had it before.
Maybe he's gonna be shut down soon and they've known the entire time, but they just wantrd to tell the fans they "gave it a go".

I should have said that he's probably taking it very easy on defense, may have even been instructed to take it easy by the team, but Kawhi taking it easy on defense usually doesn't look this bad. I guess I am surprised because I've never ever seen him at such a low level defensively before.

Nobody is saying that he won't come around, but his defense is currently lacking. His timing is off. Last night there were 3 different occasions that he went for the steal and just missed and was pissed at himself. I have no doubt that he will improve, but last night there were several times that the Nets attacked him. That never happens to THE CLAW!
