View Full Version : Let's be real, Cory Joseph is getting the max

Arguably the best point guard the Spurs have on their roster at the moment and showing signs of more. Not afraid to take the game on and someone is going to give him a big offer thinking he can make it to the next level.

Who's going to poach him?

Jarrett Jack got 4 / $25 at an older age and with serious deficiencies in his game (unrestricted though). Vazquez got 2 / $15. Patty's contract is a bad comp given the injury.

If the Spurs think he's worth it, they may keep him at any reasonable offer sheet level or test sign and trade market. To me, he's even more important to bring back if Manu retires as Patty will play more 2. Marco is also a FA.

This is a more realistic possibility than Green getting the max tbh

We can't play Parker-Mills-Joseph long term, it's simply too small a lineup. I think sign-and-trade in the summer is the way to go.

I'm not a fan of Joseph's style, it will be exposed in the playoffs IMO, but I'd literally jerk off if the Spurs traded Parker for anything of value..

He's turning into a good player, but if someone gives him the max like Green then they should go for it.

Hope you enjoy blueballs, Pop and Tony just made a deal with the devil, going out together, hand in hand

Joseph can score the ball that's for sure. If he can somehow learn to control the offense and get others involved I think he would be solid for the Spurs.

And :lol at this thread, fucking couldn't get a 2nd rounder from a contender for his sorry ass. He's the definition the organization turning nothing into something. He's a terrible player with no skills, but chip and pop somehow make him serviceable. He'd be lucky to be in China if the Spurs cut him, he's a min-contract scrub

:lmao max

It's these painful times that make players like Joseph. If we can beat good teams without Tony and Kawhi, imagine what we can do with them, when Joseph enters to rest Tony or Patty and stretches the lead.

The Spurs have had terrible injury luck so far this season, but I guarantee you the coaches and players on Golden State, Portland, Memphis, Dallas, etc., are looking at the Spurs and fearing when/if they get healthy. They could potentially enter the playoffs this season with a deeper team then they did last year.

One of our pgs are going to have to move by next year, the way Cojo is playing the money he is going to command is going to be way to high for a 3rd pg.

I see Cojo signing somewhere else next year.

They wont get fair value for him at this age, no trade will be of value he brings right now.

This. He's a good scrub trying to be a PG while Mills was out...sadly that time is now over. Back to the end of the bench with Daye and Pendergraph!

He won't get close to the max. He won't even approach half of it.

We can't afford to keep 3 expensive point guards. Yet, in a way, we may need them for two reasons: 1) Tony is more likely to be injured as he ages. Thus if your primary backup has to play with the first string, your second back up will have to be at least competent. You just can't have a scrub there when you know Tony will miss time. 2) When Manu retires (as early as after this season) Patty will have to initiate the second string offense more. Presently he often effectively plays mini-shooting guard while Manu runs the offense. This plays to Patty's strength (shooting). When Manu is gone, Patty is going to have to be a more true point. We'll see how that goes.

Maybe Boris or KA will be able to be point-forwards with the second string. We'll see.

Why? because he had 20 point games twice? Not even medium and I dont hate him.

The idea of him getting a max deal IS silly, but so is this idea of Cory being the product of the Spurs system. If anything, he's been hurt by it his whole career. The fact that he can't shoot the three well is really only a big deal because he plays next to a ball-dominant SG most of the time. He is good at midrange attempts and can get that shot anytime he wants. I'm not saying the Spurs didn't coach him up, mind you. I AM saying they didn't coach him up more than they did any of their young players. The dude can ball, and he has a much higher upside than Mills as far as a long-term starter goes.

Joseph could backup any team in the league at this point. :lol at the idiots that say he is a scrub :lol

still, he is a BACKUP PG. I don't think he can possibly do anything to be a STARTING PG besides being born again. He's reached his max peak which is being a decent backup PG

what TJ Ford coulda been imo :cry

Cojo is getting that glow folks.

And to say he's reached his max potential is folly.
His skills are just starting to be polished, he has room to add new skills, like the 3 point shot.
Physically he hasn't hit his prime..
And his understanding of the game of course, is still developing. Which will lead to being a better PG and Defender.

His confidence is the driving force, and he has that in such a chill manner. Shades of Timmy Duncan.

Like a less asshole, humble version of TP.

What we are seeing, is certain levels in his being have caught up to others, where he is "starting to put it all together."

For you DBZ fans, it's like the second form of Freeza or Cell.

I can see a line up of... Cojo, Green, Kawhi, Diaw, and Tiago in the future as a solid offensive, versatile line up, with strong Defensive backbone.

Perimeter guys (PG/SG/SF) shooting at least 54% on adjusted FG%. Giving extra credit to 3pt, this benefits spot-up shooters and guys with range (which we know CoJo's is among the worst of the guys on the list).

Only 15 guys make it, so not bad to have three vs. what should average out to be 0.5 per team. You can say it's the system, but impressive nonetheless - particularly with CoJo. Parker's probably helped out a bit by his higher than expected 3pt% but he's always been among the top guys in FG%. Also goes to show you that CoJo rarely forces bad shots.

67.8% K. Korver (just ridiculous)
59.3% W. Matthews
59.0% JJ Redick
58.2% S. Curry
58.2% C. Lee
56.6% B. McLemore
56.1% C. Joseph
55.8% H. Barnes
55.7% D. Green
55.5% G. Dragic
55.3% L. Deng
55.0% T. Parker
54.5% K. Thompson
54.2% C. Parsons
54.0% D. Lillard

Sadly in today's league, anyone who could score 20 points on any given night, can be given the max.

This is all way to true. There is such a lack of overall nba talent that it dosnt seem to take much to get the MAX these days.
