View Full Version : Glen Rice Jr.?

He's about to be waived by the Wizards in a cost cutting move. Excellent scorer at the SF position. To me, he's better than
Daye. Daye's contract is only $1million. Just cut him loose and bring in Glen Rice Jr. He's more versatile and can get his shot off anytime he wants. His D is average but no worse than Daye.

He's got a -3.5 PER, and he must be getting cut for a reason. Not to defend Daye, but why eat the salary for comparable player (and one who is 5 inches shorter too)? He's also a career .269 shooter!

If the Spurs had an open roster spot, I'd take a flier. But right now, they really don't need to waive Daye for that. Trade him and Ayres for another player first, then use the open spot on Rice if he's still around.

He was the Michael Jordan of the Summer League (as I recall).

Do yall think this guy wouldnt have a chance to thrive in a Spurs like system? I'm wondering as I'll admit I haven't seen much play from him and only know him from his Dad. However when you have a bench of Daye and Ayres to contend with I don't think that bar is set very high.

Hell yes they should take him! The spurs probably won't because... ...whatever. Rasual Butler really Matt Bonner'd Glen Rice Jr good. If the spurs stick with daye over grjr, they're boneheaded.

Hasn't done anything in the NBA. Second-tier league might be his ceiling.

if anything, you'd cut belinelli for him.

I'm not a fan of either Daye or Ayres but Glen Rice Jr. has been terrible by almost any statistical and appreciable standard (albeit the sample size is small). He's posted an offensive rating of 78 & 72 his first 2 years in the league and defensive ratings of 102 and 111 (terrible). In comparison Jeff "Can't handle a pass" Ayres has average Ortg with the Spurs is 110 with a Drtg of 103. Even as bad as Daye has been he still has a better Ortg (82 average as a Spur, 73 on the season) and defensive rating (102 for both season and average).

Obviously the structure of the system might be helping Ayres/Daye and WAS may be hampering Rice a little, but why would the Spurs buyout one of their contracts for what would be a lateral move at best?

I guess for me having Ayres and Daye is stale and would love just to see a new face even if its just seems a lateral move . So ya imso sick of seeing those two on the spurs roster thats pretty much what im basing my logic on lol

If you don't like them, why would another team?

Numerous reasons. Most often, saving a team money (Spurs get a player with a 2 year guarantee or longer, other team gets our guys with less guaranteed money). But plenty of teams like players the Spurs don't and vice versa.

He's played 152 minutes in his two NBA seasons and his team would rather have an empty roster spot than guarantee the remainder of his minimum salary contract.

It's a question of roster spots though, no?

See if he's willing to go to Austin (with no roster spot), then take it from there.

As a practical matter, however, Pop and RC probably long ago made up their minds on what they would do if this guy became available. Our speculations are likely academic (but then again, when aren't they).

err probably because he's just in his second year? Agree on second-tier, but expecting him to have done something (aside from play limited minutes) might be a bit too much.

He looked incredible in that Summer League game where he torched us. I watched that game and thought he was awesome.

I had no idea that he was playing so poorly in the NBA though. I was a huge Glen Rice fan back in the day, pretty much all the way up until he went to play for the Lakers. Even though I hate the Lakers, I'm still glad Glen got a championship. He's the only guy on any of those teams that I liked.

Rasual Butler and Martell Webster or Otto Porter and Glen Rice Jr, wizards want to win now. This is the perfect team for Blair.
