View Full Version : Bucks: Larry Sanders quits basketball

Larry Sanders recently told some members of the Milwaukee Bucks' front office that he doesn't want to play basketball anymore, according to sources.

Sanders is in the first season of a four-year, $44 million extension and hasn't played in the past six games.

Jason Kidd initially told the media that Sanders had the flu, but he said on Friday he was away for "personal reasons."

Some friends of Sanders told Woelfel last summer that he wasn't committed to basketball and was interested in exploring other options.

WTH, walking away from $44 million dollars? :lol Dude is crazy. His head wasn't in the game obviously.

No, he doesn't get to keep the money left on his contract. Only way he gets some of it is if they agree to a buyout.

"when a player is still under contract, wants to quit, and his team doesn't want to let him out of his contract. Under these circumstances the player can file for retirement with the league. The player is placed on the league's Voluntarily Retired list (see question number 79), forgoes his remaining salary, and cannot return to the league for one year. The latter requirement prevents players from using retirement as an underhanded way to change teams, and can be overridden with unanimous approval from all 30 teams."

if he really doesn't wanna play it anymore, just fake an injury (preferably in the achilles) then sit out for the remainder of his 4yr 44m contract.

If he gets away with walking out with a contract there would not even be a point for players to have contracts would there?

Even so he must be one of the dumbest human beings to walk away from a 44 mil paying job where he gets to play a sport for a living.

Also, when that money starts drying up he'll want to scrape for some more cash.

I would assume he'll get paid from the time he signed the contract to how long he played? Doubt he gets the full amount.

actually it was because of that idiot bob hill, the coach at the time. Rodman and david, although different, actually still worked together and were certainly a great duo. But fuck thread, having rodman leave that series, that series that forever propelled hakeem to the status he has today and shun robinson as soft. We couldve beat the rockets if rodman played. i guess we will never know. i love rodman but fuck i will always hate him for that.

Dallas just released Odom iirc, Fisher did his usual underhanded rat maneuver of ":cry I just need to be closer to my family and :cry my sick daughter :cry" to get Cuban to buy him out, then immediately jumped to OKC.

But didn't he refuse to play as well? I know he was assigned to the D-league because he was just mailing it in on the court.

I don't think he refused to play, I think he was just so bad the Mavericks told him not to show up anymore.

Basketball Insiders: You mentioned you’re in a better place, which leads to the big question that everyone is asking. Do you see yourself making an NBA comeback anytime soon?
Larry Sanders: “I could see myself coming back to the NBA and… I mean, I’ll just leave it at that. I can’t say too much. (laughs) I can see myself coming back there.”
Basketball Insiders: Your name gets mentioned in rumors whenever a team needs a big man or is looking to make a free agency signing. Have teams been calling you or your camp to express interest?
Larry Sanders: “I’ll say this: I understand who I am as a player and I know what I can bring to any team. Now that I’ve gotten the chance to watch a lot of basketball, I just know what I would do on that court. Even from an effort standpoint, I know I can [play harder than a lot of players]. With the kind of player that I am, I just don’t see a team that couldn’t use my services. But I will say, I think it would have to be a very good fit for the both of us. And I think it goes outside of what’s happening on the court – there has to be a connection there. Maybe I’m asking for too much. (laughs) But I just won’t go back to the situation I was in before.”

Yep, cost you your 1st 1st. And fucked up your count. Christ, I can't even figure it without a slide rule & my 250 readers. But, I'll try:::You'd have at least 6 with a 2nd 4th and no *(yet). Eh, wasn't as hard as I thought.

He detailed it all in his book. "I decided I wasn't going down there and helping David (with the rebounding.)."

Guaranteed only means if a player fulfills it. That's pretty much why Kobe stuck around and sucked up the joint. He didn't want to walk away from 48 mil.
