San Antonio Spurs (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/sas/) star Kawhi Leonard (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/4896/) will likely return within two weeks from a hand injury, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Leonard has been recovering from a torn ligament in his shooting hand and is expected to resume light basketball activities this week, sources said.

Doctors have seen progress in the lessening of his inflammation, and the belief is he'll regain full strength in the hand with no long-term limitations or issues, sources said.

Leonard was the 2014 NBA Finals MVP for the defending champion Spurs and is one of the NBA's elite defenders. He hasn't played since Dec. 15 against Portland, missing 10 consecutive games.

He's averaged 15.2 points, 7.6 rebounds and two steals per game for the Spurs.

Best part of the article tbh...we can't have him at less than 100% playing with pain if we want to repeat.

Anyways, here is how the schedule looks over the next 2 weeks:

Detroit
Phoenix
@Minnesota (b2b)
@Washington
@Charlotte (b2b)
Portland
Utah
@Denver

Looks like a cakewalk compared to what we just went through, but there are still some potentially tough games in there. Would be nice if Kawhi could manage to play against Portland on the 16th, but we'll see.

“I talked to Kawhi,” Green said. “He seems like he’s in better spirits because he said he got some good news. I don’t think he has to get surgery. I think he might be back sooner than (the media) or Pop expects. He’s a tough kid.”

man I believe the 2k owners are either miami heat or okc fans. The spurs suck. I play 99% of my games with the spurs but tim duncan can't hit a layup, cory joseph can't hit a wide open jumper, danny green can't hit 3's online, and i can't hit freethrows in the 4th. The other day I play with another team just to see how it is and it's unbelievable how good they have the players on the thunder and rockets. Kevin Durant does not miss anything.

Athleticism is overemphasized in video games. See Vick in Madden (or even a fast RB like DeAngelo Williams) or super fast, strong guys in FIFA. The things the Spurs do best don't translate to video game play.

I always destroy people with the Spurs, but than again Kawhi always comes up big for me. So does Green and Manu (usually Manu on the drive and than Green with the 3 off the penetration). Duncan plays great on D for me but can't hit layup sometimes. Tony sucks until the 4th qtr. I haven't played 2k since late Nov. so I don't know how they would be with out Kawhi.

i play with anderson in leonard's place. He can hit the open 3 and layups, but u must hold anderson's 3 point shot for a long time. Baynes is worthless. Every time he grabs an offensive rebound he either gets it stripped or misses a layup if he doesn't dunk it. I don't even play him and Ayres anymore. If I put splitter with the bench squad, i'll use a 4-1 offense/spacing the floor with the bench and starters with duncan in the paint surrounded by 3 point shooters and splitter with the bench crew. Bellinelli and Leonard are the easiest to hit 3's with. Danny green and Mills are the hardest. I don't know why

Kinda off topic with this, but since we're bringing up Parker's FMVP in 2007...It legitimately annoys me when people try to use Parker winning FMVP in '07 as a knock against Duncan and act like Duncan wasn't by far the best player on the team at that point. Duncan was miles and miles better than Parker that year. Duncan carried us through the West when we were playing better teams, and then Parker just had the better Finals series because we attacked Cleveland's horrible backcourt. If you look at the entirety of the playoffs, Parker really wasn't anything too special that year.

There are seriously some people out there who act like Duncan stopped being the best player on the team in '07...pretty funny tbh :lol In his entire career, Duncan hasn't been the best player on the team in only 2 seasons IMO. His rookie year (D-Rob), and 2011 (Manu). Every other year he was the best player on the Spurs.

Even in his rookie year, he's the one who made first team All NBA (Admiral was second team). So could be argued that it was only 2011 and he was beat up / hobbling around that year.

Duncan drew the attention of the defense that season, enabling a player who was ready and able to score to get the MVP.

Just like last year, when our 'big three' drew the most attention from the defense, Kawhi was ready and able to score - especially in the last three games. Before the last three games, he was not MVP.

The thing about Finals MVPs are that they are ALWAYS a media-driven, 'who looks the flashiest and/or is the biggest surprise' award.

If we hadn't lost in 2013, Green would likely have been the MVP.

Tim Duncan has clearly been the best Spurs player in every playoff series since he entered the league.

Doesn't mean that other players are not contributing or are not super - Manu was super last year too, but Diaw was a damn close second for MVP, imo. And, tbh, Parker was the one being guarded by LeBron most of the last two finals series when they were both on the floor. People get chances to shine and they take them or they don't.

I kind of wish that the entire team won the MVP in last year's finals...but that isn't the way the hype works.

It's sort of like the fan voting for All-Star. That's all any of those things are. Stop pitting the players against one another on a team that manifestly won everything with more team play than anyone has ever seen.

“They allowed him to do it in the paint because he can’t do like that,” coach Gregg Popovich said Friday, mimicking a full shooting motion. “That’s what bothers him, or of course if the ball hits it.”

“As we move along it’s going to be pain tolerance and whether the hand works enough to play basketball with it,” Popovich said. “Once he can do that, whatever pain he has he’ll be able to handle. But if he can’t pass, catch and shoot, it doesn’t matter.”

One report says there won't be any long term issues. And surgery wasn't necessary.

But the way Pop talks one good slap to the hand or another fall and he'll be out again. Sounds like his hand can stop working at any time.

I shouldn't have been encouraged by the Woj report. I'm not sure we can really expect much from Leonard this season.
