I own those early Louis Armstrong recordings, have some Jellyroll Morton, Billie Holliday and....Kind of Blue...by Miles Davis. Well aware of the jazz greats, origins of it all. But never really warmed up to it like I did to other stuff.

A fantastic read "Satchmo" by Louis Armstrong. Him talking about growing up in "The Battlefield" in New Orleans, riveting. Not a night went by where somebody didn't get shot or stabbed, while the cops took the.....let those jiggabos kill themselves off...approach.
