View Full Version : Seahawks to make Russell Wilson highest-paid QB

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports, via sources involved in the situation, Russell Wilson (http://www.nfl.com/player/russellwilson/2532975/profile) is expected to become the NFL's highest-paid quarterback when the Seahawks (http://www.nfl.com/teams/seattleseahawks/profile?team=SEA) sign him to a long-term extension in the coming offseason.
Wilson's rookie contract runs through the 2015 season, but the organization intends to take care of him this year rather than next.
As a means to that end, they jettisoned Percy Harvin (http://www.nfl.com/player/percyharvin/80425/profile)'s inflated salary and extended the contracts (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000445908/article/seahawks-sign-cliff-avril-to-4year-285m-extension) of nucleus defensive starters (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000445541/article/kj-wright-seattle-seahawks-strike-fouryear-deal) Cliff Avril (http://www.nfl.com/player/cliffavril/1330/profile) and K.J. Wright (http://www.nfl.com/player/k.j.wright/2495252/profile).

Likely gonna kill their Title chances after this year. They draft well, so maybe not, but they benefitted from a cheap, very good QB, and now they just paid him more than they likely were spending on entire offensive skill position players combined.

Pretty much..it's the conundrum in the NFL today, paying your QB is essentially suicide for your title chances..

Good for him. If I was slightly better than a game manager and in line to make elite money I'd take it too.

Sucks for Lynch, tbh..carries the offense for years, shortens his lifespan by taking vicious hits all game, but Wilson receives all the credit and all the money:lol..

He should be the highest paid player on his team, but not in the league. I don't think he does more for his team compared to the elite QBs in this league.

I'm not salty. I think he should be the highest paid player on the team, but to make him the highest player in the league is questionable when it's not proven he can do for his team what the elite QBs like Manning, Brady, Rodgers, and Brees have done in the past few seasons which is carry bottom 5 defenses to 12-13 win seasons and playoff/Super Bowl runs. Wilson has played on a defense which has been 1st, 1st, and 1st the past 3 seasons. To be fair, the Hawks offense has been 6th, 3rd, and 9th the past 3 seasons in points per possession so they are getting the job done. I think he should get close to top 5 money, but not the most.

If Seattle is actually serious about their "fair competition at every position" thing, they should draft a real QB to compete with Struggle instead of giving that scrub a fat extension.

When you have a 26 year old QB who has already won more SB's than...
Chargers
Browns
Lions
Bills
Vikings
Falcons
Titans
Texans
Jags

combined....you pay him.

Trent Dilfer wasn't the league leader in 4th quarter game winning drives like RW is since he came in the league. Dilfer didn't take them to two SB's in a row. Dilfer wasn't the greatset QB ever vs others with the same amount of experience.

Wilson is the only player in NFL history to throw a game-losing INT from the 1 yard line in the Super Bowl..that's as bad as it gets, tbh, nothing else matters IMO..
There were 109 passes from the 1 yard line in the NFL this season, Wilson's attempt was the only pass that was intercepted:lmao..

RW is the most effective/succesful third year QB in the history of the NFL. He is setting records, ok? His stats on a whole other kevel. ok? Go ahead shorty compare anyone...Montana, Marino, Brady, Peyton etc third year stats to RW's. He's the best we have seen in that time frame. Go ahead prove me wrong, I challenge you little guy.

He's also the only QB in Superbowl history to come within less than a yard of winning two in their first three seasons.
He also had the highest passer rating of any third year QB.
Since he game in the league he is number one in 4th quarter winning TD drives.

When he finally had to face the pressure and responsibilities that real franchise QB's have to deal with every single game, he couldn't even complete a one-yard pass to the correct team.

Disastrous performance at home before bailed out by his defense.

The rules in the '80s allowed actual physical defense to be played against quarterbacks and receivers, unlike today's watered-down pussy rules that Fivehead and Brady begged for. Struggle would be shitting his pants if he had to face Lawrence Taylor, Reggie White, Howie Long, Bruce Smith, Mike Singletary, etc.

Randall Cunningham had no problems, RW is just as dynamic and a far better passer.

1140 yards, 11 touchdowns, ZERO interceptions, while beating Luck, Peyton, Brady, and the stacked Niners en route to a championship. He didn't have to be carried by a stacked team, he was doing the carrying. Let me know when Struggle ever manages to have a run like that. Oh, and if Baltimore even had a league-average secondary this year, January Joe would have two rings right now. And he already owns the record for most road playoff wins by a QB. #Elite

Only comparing the first three years is your most intellectually dishonest tactic yet. You completely ignore the fact that Struggle lucked into a more fortunate team situation than 99.99999% of rookies coming out of college. If any of the quarterbacks you scoff for having a "worse" first three years than Struggle were drafted by this Seattle team, they'd have won three straight Super Bowls to start their career.
