Hi, I decided to create a topic on TP's game as he's going to play a lot of games
during the European Tournament. It will be pretty interesting to see if he has improved his shot during summer even though he hasn't practiced much with our new Shooting coach (what's his name btw?)!

There is France vs Russia tonight at 7:45pm (paris time), I'll watch the game and tell you how Parker did.

TP vs Kirlienko :angel

For those who missed the France-Turkey last time, don't miss this one on Sport+ (Canal Satellite).

If it was Chip France, he would have already given up on Tony. :smokin

This is an article from "L'equipe" (a French newspaper).

"This year, I've seen what were my limits concerning my shoot. The years before, I've never wanted to change it. My priority was to prove that I can play in the NBA. I didn't want to admit that I had to change my shooting technique to improve in 2, 3 years.
But last season, I wasn't good and I told myself that I needed to react."

He decided to analyse his gesture, adjust it without changing everything
"I'm warning you that I'm not trying to change completely my shoot"
Helped by the new shooting coach, Chip Engelland, he worked one week at L.A. this summer and then during the mini-break with the French team last week. He worked in paris during 3 days to get new sensations.

The idea is simple: to recreate in a long distance his gesture when he's
doing his "tear drop" shot, this shot at one hand that he masters perfectly.
In the facts, TP has then learnt how to put his thumb correctly on the ball
in order to shoot better.
"I never used it before when I was shooting. While, all the pure shooters
use their thumbs.
I felt the difference against Turkey, I was really feeling the ball.
Even on the FT line I'm not worried anymore, I did 11/14 for the last 3 games,
that's really good for me! Of course, I know that there will be games
where I will miss everything, but I had a good feeling vs Turkey . Now my priority is to be more steady and shoot like Steve Nash in 3 years!
I don't have to focus too much on it also, it has to be a + on my game and not the opposite"

Good to see that he's optimist about his shoot and that he's ready to improve. Furthermore, that's funny that he's talking about Nash while I was reffering to him yesterday :spin

I hope these are lasting improvements. The more TP learns to rely on his shooting hand and use the guide hand only as minimal support, the less of that curve ball he is going to shoot.

Kirilenko! I love that player. I'd love to see him play w/a decent team, he'd kill

What happened to the tear drop in the playoffs? Seemed much less reliable and I can't remember TP making one in the Finals or even taking one near the end.

Van Exel will remind Tony of the teardrop shot, if TP forgets. Nick has a fairly nice floater too!

tony knows it is his bread and butter.
building on what works (the tear drop) to streghten the outside jumpshot without penalizing him too much on actual game. this is a great idea.
he has at least 90 games to get a minimum comfortable with using his thumb.
next summer he will work on another part

This is the stats of TP:

10 pts 7ast

2PT FG: 4/4
FT: 2/2
3PT FG: 0/4
AST: 7
RBD: 2
TO: 1
STL: 0
BLK: 0
F: 1

This is a recap of the game by quarter:

1Q: FRA 22-16 RUS
TP didn't shoot, he gave the ball often to his teamates to invole them.
Boris Diaw did a Jordanesque dunk 2ft after the FT line! :fro
1F, 1TO

2Q: FRA 37 - 34 RUS
TP was on the bench at the beginning of the quarter and France was just horrible. They scored 4 PTS in 5'30 min (each QT is 10 min..) and they were outscored by Russian.
But TP came and had 3 AST - 0/1 3PT

3Q: FRA 48 - 44 RUS
TP was not in the game offensively, still haven't shot a 2PT FG
0/3 3PT, 2FT, 1RBD

4Q: FRA 69-73 RUS
Hopefully, TP started to be on fire in this final quarter, he had like 2 layups and 2 teardrops and gave 4 ast!

France is too weak inside and they had too many turnovers (around 18..) and were horrible at 3PT (3/21). Boris Diaw was awesome (he amazes me each game) and had good offensive moves (some fadeways..) but Pietrus sucked at 3PT, he missed like 4 or 5 open shots!
For TP, his 3PT shot were more like desperate shots at the end of the shotclock 2FT behind the 3PT line.. so we can't really judge his improvement.
Unfortunately for France, TP woke up too late and he needs to be the leader of the team sooner!

They are playing tomorrow against Serbia-Montenegro!

Honestly, if France can't even beat Russia.. they just suck! :lol

I agree! I didn't even know this guy and when I first time saw him at the draft with his suit I thought that he was a PF or C! :blah
But he can shoot (3PT as well, he drops 2 or 3 in this game) and has a big jump!

Is he coming this year at Sonics? I initially heard that he prefered to stay 1 more year in Spain but who knows..

disclaimer: i watched half the game

i am disappointed with antoine and mike pietrus. Pietrus is not bringing his usual agressivity that could help compensate for the lacking interior game and he should take less 3. Antoine is not bringing the leadership to give tony a break. the team counts too much on tony forcing him to take bad 3pt shoot.

I am amazed with:

Boris diaw. tony always say it but this guy is underrated. he is great defensively with speed and long arms (can defend 1-2-and 3 not as well) but when he is agressive like this last few games his offense is SWEAT.
i think boris and James Jones are going to be the surprise for phoenix next year. coach D will know how to get something out of Boris.

Gelabale played better than pietrus for the second game. he brings it when on the floor. great spirit. good skills. few pounds and he will be a successful 3 in the big league when he joins next year. he had to win his place on the team and he just won it by far.

On which show?

Tony is becoming "celebrity" and playing more shitty......

Hmm.. I don't think so, he hasn't become more popular this year with his 2nd ring than before.. He did a lot of tv shows last year!

On what facts are you saying that he's "playing more shitty"? I'm not a huge Parker fan, I like what he does on the court but it's obvious for French ppl that he's showing too much during interviews..
I was a Spurs fan long time before TP arrived on the team and my all time favorite is David Robinson, so I don't want people to misunderstand and think I'm on TP's dick because I'm french.

I haven't seen the last game against S&M but he did OK against Turkey, TP tries to pass the ball and involve his teamates but he surely needs to be more agressive and be a leader for French team!

According to me, TP hasn't played more shitty than what he used to do. ;D

All-tournament First Team:

PG - Leandro Barbosa (Brazil) - 20.3 ppg, 5 rpg, 4.2 apg (before tonight's game)
SG - Marcelo Machado (Brazil) - 23.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 5.5 apg (before tonight's game)
SF - Francisco Garcia (Dominican Republic) - 18.9 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 2 apg
PF - Hector Romero (Venezuela) - 16.7 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 1.8 apg
C - Esteban Batista (Uruguay) - 18 ppg, 15.6 rpg

I think Barbosa is going to surprise some people this year along with Diaw.

Any words on the dunk Diaw threw down over Kirilenko?

If you don't remember, then perhaps the following was exaggerated.

Euro 2005 : 4th straight loss for the France
Sep. 1, 2005
by Laurent Sallard

The French National Team recorded on Thursday its fourth straight loss in five game (73-69) against Russia in Istanbul....

In the first quarter, the French NT played very well both offensively and defensively. Boris Diaw (203-F/G-82) was at the same level as he was on Tuesday's game and scored 9 points in the first ten minutes. He also released the most spectacular move of the tournament, finishing a coast-to-coast with a powerfull one-handed dunk on Andrei Kirilenko (205-F-81) after jumping from just beyond the free-throw line.

Would love some details. Maybe even a video. I got nothin' but this article and my imagination.

He's not playing in the NBA... I'd like to see it against an NBA team, then I'd be happy.

And I do care about development...but cmon, barbosa averaging 20 ppg over there, tony has to do somewthing.

And we still won, who cares moron.

I hope France looses all their games that way Tony will not be committed to playing in any future summer Olympic qualifying tourneys

Call me selfish but I dont give a shit about any Olympic team, including team USA
Although last summer I supported Team USA and Arg but only because there was a Spur on those teams.

I am totally against players of the Spurs representing their country in the Olympics but will support the players choice to do so.

It is unfair to compare the America with the Euro game. Euro game is more advanced, the nearest to NBA that you will ever find. America is ... OK but not the same. Sorry but, playing Uruguay, Dominican Rep etc. is not the same that playing Serbia, Italy, Spain etc, etc. THose Serbians would wipe the ass of Brazil in a minute ( or not I don't know).

This dunk was realyawesome. Diaw is a great dunker and has the level to do the dunk contest. I've watch a dunk contest he made in France and he was very good.
He could be a great fit for Suns but I fear you put him at the PG spot, I think his natural place is SF.

Mickael Pietrus 23

Salut JUUOT.

It's maybe too soon to tell but I find Tony's jumpshot quite good. I watch some the 3's he does on TV and even if I'm not an expert, his jumpshot looks better than before.

He has changed his thumb position and the way he puts up the ball (he said that on TV).

With French team (if you remove the first two games where Tony was in really bad shape), Tony was 14/31 (0.452) from 21 feet jumpshots (euro 3's).

merci bruno. les resumes a la radio ne sont pas suffisant. et puis c est sympa d avoir un contributeur de qualite et regulier francais.

21 feet distance is perfect because it is quite enough to space defense.

If tony can consistently hit between 40 and 45% midrange jumper he is uncontestly in the top5PG.

i think the fact he can rely on beno and mostly NVE from the bench will also push him. he will progress again like every year.

sounds good.
