How do you just run the clock out in basketball?
Dribble around and not shoot?

He deserves the suspension for giving up those 2 points

I am not sure if I got this right, but Anderson benched his starter and asked the remaining players to burn the clock, still won by 159 points, and is being suspended for running UP the score?
Why is he being penalized for the other team totally sucking? Is he supposed to teach his kids to not play their best, and opponents are people who should be viewed with their pity?
I am having trouble understanding this.

"People shouldn't feel sorry for my team. They should feel sorry for his team, which isn't learning the game the right way,"
If the team that beat you by 159 isn't learining the game the right way what does that say about your team? :lol
I guess teaching the game the right way now is telling your players to not try your best to don't embarras the other team.

Byron Scott got suspended?
How about tell the players stay in the lockerroom if you're too stupid to play the game. Guest coach should be fired for admitting defeat before the game even started.

No it means getting a sundae after the game and eventually sniffing the underwear of your team members while they are showering.

They were running the Yinka Dare offense

He ran a press the entire game. Obviously the other team was full of girls who were new to basketball. Breaking a press run by one of the best teams in the league is going to be nearly impossible.
Issa Wilson1h Ago
Check their schedule. The team that scored 2 points are only avg 10 points a game. They are a terrible team, period. This article does not include everything that the winning coach did to try and move the game along. He did his job. The problem is the losing team just doesn't have the talent to be the local YMCA girls all star team of 10 year olds. For this coach to be suspended is a horrible decision and the individuals in charged of making/updating rules for high school sports need to implement a mercy rule of some type so that this won't happen again if they truly want to preach good sportsmanship otherwise they will continue to look like idiots when this team lose again by 100 points which is possible looking at their division. There highest scoring game is 17 points. That's right, 17 points. http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/bloomington-bruins-%28bloomington,ca%29/girls-basketball/schedule.htm
Kate Bragg1h Ago
He full court pressed the entire first half and then nicely pulled back into a half court press the second half. A half court press can be harder to break than a full court press. So, yeah you are right the article didn't tell about all of Anderson's efforts to move the game along and not score too much.
The losing coach should fired for making his awful team play a team that's not only not in his league, but obviously one of the best teams in the area. What did he expect?

You can tell most of the queers commenting ITT never played or coached basketball on a competitive level. A lot goes into defeats like this. On that level it's mostly talent that wins you games. Effort is secondary. It sounds to me like the schedule makers fucked up.

It happens a lot in girls basketball where a bunch of teams have girls that look like they just learned to dribble yesterday.

Baseball has a mercy rule after 10 runs in the junior leagues. After a 50 point lead or something, maybe the game should be called off. Until that happens, you are going to see more dumb decisions by school admins everywhere. If getting beat by 159 points doesn't want to make you get better, than maybe you shouldn't be playing basketball at a comepetitive level at all.
Losing coach is a faggot but if I was the winning coach I would've probably told my players to let them score 15-20 points just to avoid this. Scoring 100+ in a first half is kind of overboard too.
Teaching compassion isn't really a bad thing at that age tbh.

This. They can't dribble. I personally witnessed my high school girls basketball team fail to score a single point until the final minute when they celebrated like they'd just won a title.
Did they all vocal fry their displeasure with the embarrassment?

We had a 6'3 girl that everyone thought was a giant. None of the other girls in the region could get a rebound over her and she'd block every shot in the area. Still, girls would dribble up the court looking at the ball the entire time and not really knowing where they were until they looked up and realized they were already under the basket at which time they'd throw the ball straight up into the air, missing the rim and backboard and everything (like a toddler) and the other team would grab it and do the same thing the other way. It would go on all game, final score 8 to 2 or something stupid.

Or the losing coach could have had the decency to call the game and take his girls out for some participation awards and ice cream

Losing coach is clearly a faggot based on his comments. Still think the winning coach could've handled it differently though. What is there to lose by winning by 80 instead of 150? Teach the kids that dominance is great but so is compassion. Competent, good hearted people make the best humans tbh.

treating the other team like they're retarded or like they're little kids would be more embarrassing for the losing team than getting whipped on the scoreboard, imo.

Meh I've been there and always figured we had just played a little better in second halves. Unless it's blatant like they do with special ed kids I don't think little kids will realize what's happening. 80 isn't 150 but it's still an ass whooping. :lol

It happens a lot in girls basketball where a bunch of teams have girls that look like they just learned to dribble yesterday.
And the situation is worsened when you have a very talented ball hawking team of athletes that runs full and half court presses for both halfs. The winning team should've handled it differently. Pressing at that level, especially against a team full of girls that cannot dribble a ball, is only asking for a layup drill. Judging from the pregame conversation between both coaches, the winning team only accomplished one thing: they excelled at running a press, causing a turnover --> layup on their basket. That's all...that doesn't help them when they play tougher teams who won't be at such a disadvantage. After being up by 50, I would've just ran a zone defense and practice halfcourt offensive sets.

Who cares what you would have done. If the schools don't like it, change the rules.
Coach played by the rules but got suspended. It's lame.

I care, shithead. It makes sense to press a team to generate turnovers + easy baskets on the other end only to a certain extent. A team gets nothing out of winning by 159 points. After reading the backstory behind what the winning team did do, it makes no sense to continue pressing&trapping when the other team can't dribble under pressure worth a shit.

This is so retarded. Wonder how the coach feels about getting suspended over winning.
For the remainder of the season I'd just put it in coast mode and not coach and get paid. Fuck the team at that point.

As I said earlier, there's a story every year regarding the same issue..
Realistically, what are the dominant teams supposed to do? Wouldn't it be condescending and arguably even more embarrassing for the dominant team to stop trying?:lol..I know that I would be pretty embarrassed if I was getting killed and the other team just stopped trying..
Millennial(I'm a millennial, too, btw, so I'm hating on my own generation) are already soft in most facets of life, why are we still teaching kids that "everybody wins"? Life is essentially the complete opposite, most people on Earth are losing:lol..
I don't understand how you can coach a team and ever ask your players to give anything less than 100% on any given night...you just can't. What the fuck is he supposed to do after playing the 2nd or 3rd string?
The WNBA is bad enough, I can't imagine what a girl's HS game must be like. I was asked to cheer one of my friends on a couple of times and never went :lol
