Well the skilled players weren't superior athletically compared to today so it goes both eyes. But the game was more physical, QBs were less protected, DBs could play more physical, less WRs went over the middle of the field due to the possibility of getting killed by the likes on Ronnie Lott, Steve Atwater, etc. I think chances are a guy like RW would have been injured more with his style of play.
